oh ok, i just knew they didn't get to do pre-draft workouts and things like they do before the NBA draft.

so it's not like there is any reason to declare for the draft unless you are going to leave.

Payton was a redshirt sophomore this year. He'll be back next season and start with Palmer. Underwood and Flowers will rotate in, and Maurice Morgan will appear occasionally as well. We'll probably need one true freshman to skip a redshirt year and play immediately for depth reasons. I'm guessing it to be between James Summers and Charlie Hegedus.

Judging from what I’ve seen/read, Hegedus is legit. Hope we can hold onto him (I think UGA was starting to show interest … or maybe it was GT).

Palmer and Underwood will be good next year, and Payton gives us a tall target. Wonder if we’ll move one of the RBs to WR? With Greene back next year, it might make sense to move Washington or Creecy to WR. I know Creecy was listed as a WR when we were recruiting him. He’s got great hands, though doesn’t seem to pass the look test and doesn’t have great speed.

I thought there was a way you could declare, meet with a few teams to they can give you a feel for what your draft position would be or what you're currently lacking that you need to work on, and then withdraw from the draft if you want to spend another year developing.

Doesn't matter in this case though, since he's got an agent. I hope it works out for him.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuck, I knew having a guy who's been a very accomplished DC as an assistant DC/LB coach would come back to bite us. I wish we wouldve just named Tenuta DC

also, the news about Manning really hurts, good thing some of our young guys got experience this year

Losing Tenuta may be a huge hit to our defense; sure our defense improved a lot compared to past seasons and were damn good once healthy, but Archer doesn't have a good record and the only times an Archer defense has looked decent or better was with Tenuta

"CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - After being named to the Illinois football staff Tuesday, Jon Tenuta had a change of heart and said Wednesday that he will now remain at North Carolina State for family reasons.

"From the top, I want to say that Illinois is a great program and I think the world of Tim Beckman," Tenuta said. "I've known Beck for 20 years and I have no doubt that with the staff he is putting together, he will have Illinois at the top of the Big Ten very soon. However, my family comes first and I may have made a decision without fully thinking through the situation with them. My son is a senior in high school and has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at N.C. State, and it is something I just don't want to miss. I was one of the first people to contact Beck and congratulate him on the opportunity at Illinois, and I wish him and the Illini nothing but the best.""

TOB has more former players in the Super Bowl than any active coach

I believe it, but only because Heather Dinich posted something recently about BC having the biggest representation in the Suberbowl.

Not that TOB has anything to do with this part, but I found it interesting that both team owners also went to BC.

you can declare for the draft, but not hire an agent, and still remain eligible if you remove your name from the draft by a certain point. Like you said, a lot of people do it to get an idea of where they'll go in the draft. If it's too low they'll come back to college another year.

Please tell me who has done that? The date to withdraw is way before pro days or anything else of the such. There is no advantage to doing that in football as there is in basketball. people can tell a player where they think he'd be drafted without declaring for the draft.

Anyways, the withdrawal date is like 3 days after the deadline to declare, which was 2 weeks ago.

jesus, the media bashing continues

Quote :
"There might not be a greater slight in all of sports than a blue-chip prospect leaving behind his home-state program. There's certainly nothing more infuriating to a rabid fan base. Just ask Florida and Florida State fans how they feel about losing the Sunshine State's No. 1 and 2 recruits, WR Eddie Williams (Panama City) and S Travis Blanks (Tallahassee), to Alabama and Clemson, respectively.

Of course, the Gators and Seminoles don't have much trouble keeping elite ESPNU 150 prospects from bolting their borders. The two schools have combined to sign 60 out of a possible 147 elite in-state recruits from 2007-11 (lump in the Miami Hurricanes' 22 and that's 56 percent of ESPNU 150 Florida recruits remaining in Florida).

But some schools just can't fend off intruders fast enough. When ESPN The Magazine and RecruitingNation poured over the past five years of ESPNU 150 rankings (750 total recruits), these 10 BCS programs stood out as the worst at capitalizing on elite homegrown talent.

1. Arizona Wildcats
Zero of 12 in-state ESPNU 150 recruits
Top program in Arizona from 2007-11: USC (four signees)

Arizona has signed just two ESPNU 150 recruits over the past five years, and neither DE Apaiata Tuihalamaka (Gardena, Calif.) nor TE Rob Gronkowski (Pittsburgh) was a home-state product. While the Trojans have had the most success here, Arizona State was at least able to land two preps within its state borders. Last year, the state's top prospect (OT Christian Westerman of Chandler) signed with Auburn. In 2012, all eyes in Tucson are on the nation's top ATH Davonte Neal (Scottsdale), who's still considering the Wildcats and would certainly kick start Rich Rodriguez's tenure.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
2-of-74, 2.7 percent
Top program in Georgia: Georgia (22)

Neither of the Yellow Jackets' in-state ESPNU 150 signees (RB Jonathan Dwyer of Marietta and WR Morgan Burnett of College Park) was brought in by current coach Paul Johnson, whose lone elite recruit was 2011 ATH Vad Lee (Durham, N.C.). Over the last five years, Alabama and Auburn have combined for 10 blue-chip preps out of the Peach State, while Florida and Florida State have combined to sign nine. Don't expect Johnson to land any ESPNU150 preps from Georgia (or any other state) in 2012.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Stanford Cardinal
2-of-73, 2.7 percent
Top program in California: USC (32)

We gave Stanford props for its ability to go out of state to sign top prospects, but there's no ignoring the program's inability to create an elite pipeline in its state. (Meanwhile, UCLA has signed 12 in-state ESPNU 150 recruits over the last five years.) Sure, Cardinal fans can blame their program's struggles on academic constraints, but out of 73 players, surely more than two could qualify. In 2012, David Shaw doesn't have a single ESPNU 150 commit from California -- USC currently has four and UCLA has two -- but No. 4 OT Kyle Murphy (San Clemente) still has Stanford on his short list.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. California Golden Bears
4-of-73, 5.5 percent
Top program in California: USC (32)

We could make the same knock against the Golden Bears over the last five years, but Jeff Tedford has nearly matched his 2007-11 total in 2012. Cal is close to signing three of the state's top eight prospects, including the nation's No. 3 S Shaq Thompson (Sacramento).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. North Carolina State Wolfpack
2-of-24, 8.3 percent
Top program in North Carolina: North Carolina (seven)

In terms of recruiting, we're as perplexed with the Wolfpack's lack of production as we are with Georgia Tech's. Two ACC programs that can't sign top local talent? (OK, make that four. Duke nor Wake Forest has signed a single ESPNU 150 prospect from any state, so we didn't bother ranking them.) Clemson, Georgia and South Carolina have gone in to North Carolina and lifted a combined eight prospects over the last five years -- even Cal grabbed two. This year, the state's five ESPNU 150 recruits are committed to Georgia (one), Florida (two) and Clemson (two).

^agreed. If we wouldn't have lots Summer (who stayed in-state) not mentioned of us in the write up. We also (fingers cross) stole a great recruit out of GA

Maybe it seems like Bashing even tho its true.

but why not write about Duke or Wake or North Carolina or EZU. no one in NC is able to keep the great players in the State.

which sucks. maybe if we can win 8-10 for a few years we can get younger kids that grow up wanting to go to State instead of Bama, LSU, USC (both).

anyway Roll PACK!!

For a lot of kids in this state, love for a certain school starts with college basketball, not college football.

Hell, I was a UNC fan for most of my pre-college life because of George Lynch, Jerry Stackhouse, Vince Carter, etc (and I'm sure I'm not the only one on here). I cheered for the football team because the damn basketball team sucked me in.

Sounds counter-intuitive, but winning on the bball court will help us with in-state football recruiting. (of course, winning in football will help us too...)

That's a nice compliment, Lemming is pretty well respected in the recruit-ranking business. And he doesn't like the whole star system, thinks it's "such an inexact science", just participates because it's part of the business.

What about the rumors that DE Kenderius Whitehead may flip from NC State to Clemson?

And to make things even more interesting, the defensive end from ML King also had a letter-of-intent from UGA.

Whitehead will make his announcement live at 9:30 on AJC on a webcast. Check back for updates."
