I kind of agree with the keeper. No way in hell he's going to make that angle, so do the best you can to cut off the pass.
this keeper kinda sucks anyway. He's very slow.

^i disagree. a keeper absolutely cannot afford to let someone score on the near post like that. give your defense a chance to clear the ball on the pass.
this game might open up, now that NK has to spread the field looking for an equalizer. flood gates might open up for brazil

^you think they can sneak a win against portugal or the ivory coast? i dunno, i think a loss in this group is pretty damning. if portugal or the ivory coast can get a draw with brazil, NK is done. my guess is that both ivory coast and portugal will play for the draw against brazil and for the win against north korea. if one of those teams succeed, NK is done.
holy shit. north korean "fans" are actors from china? wow

The player who played the ball was still onside when the ball was kicked.
I don't think any country is as insanely ran as North Korea.

i can't imagine the japanese team being that much more difficult to make than north korea
i mean, maybe the answer is that simple, but maybe it has some more nationalistic reasoning. much like rossi playing for italy over the usa
and deco could probably have played for brazil, as far as talent's go. (at least, during the last world cup)

There are a lot of second, third generation Koreans who live in Japan whose families tend to be loyal to North Korea. Mind you, most have switched sides to the South after things went from bad to insane up there. Playing for the North is also a way to "stick it" to the Japanese who tend to treat Northerners as a sort of second-class citizen.
Glad to see the North scare up their group a bit. I'm sure the Dear Leader will be broadcasting their exploits and take full responsibility. 6/15/2010 4:30:46 PM |

yeah but Slovenia would probably need a result against England to advance if they tie us... especially considering we'll be playing an already eliminated Algeria who they only beat 1-0 6/15/2010 6:56:35 PM |

I don't think slovenia will pack it in, they'll probably figure a win against us is easier than a win against england. Also, if they win against us, they are through to the next round, so I don't think they'll go totally defensive.
If algeria loses to england, they have nothing to lose/play for, so i'm sure they'll just be playing to beat us. If they tie or beat england, they really still need to win against us to have enough points to advance.
Basically, I think both teams will be going for the win against us, they have no reason to pack it in and play for the tie. 6/15/2010 7:04:04 PM |
aimorris All American 15213 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, but they're not a super attacking side so their normal game plan might look like "playing for the tie" anyways.
I say we come out guns blazing looking for goals early and fuck all that two defensive midfielder noise 6/15/2010 7:12:57 PM |
mls09 All American 1515 Posts user info edit post |
^absolutely. in my opinion, you play to beat teams that you should beat. england was really the only match where playing for a draw made sense (and i still think we took the opportunities for the win when we had them). and considering how poor algeria's keeper's form looked, there is no real reason not to take many (even improbable) shots. not to mention, the US should be able to play an attacking game against weak opponent and still preserve the clean sheet.
