What's everyone doing for cases? I ordered a smart cover but may return it in favor of a full case. Don't know how I feel about having the back exposed and tossing it in a bag with other stuff.

the back of the ipad scratches waaaaaayyyyy easier than the screen. i got a smart cover as a gift and really like it, so I will be looking for one of those "smart cover compatible" back shells.

I really enjoy inCase's cover/sleeve products. I have a neoprene sleeve for my 11" MB Air and it's perfectly minimal. Their website says they are working on case options for the iPad3, so hopefully that is one of the options available. The iPad2 offerings are also pretty slick. Granted they're basically the same thing but I'll be interested to see what they have available specifically for this iteration.

Depends on the store. And I would end up checking at some of the lesser known places. When the iPad 2 came out and it was sold out everywhere, I just happened to be in my local Target on the day after launch and there were tons of iPad 2s just sitting there while all the articles on the internet were talking about how all the Apple stores were out of stock and there was a 3-4 week wait on getting new ones. This year, Target, Wal-mart, Radio Shack and Best Buy should all be getting some on launch day. I wouldn't be surprised if you call around to those places and are able to pick one up on launch day with no hassle.

i vaguely remember reading that it would be available in apple stores on the 16th. that kind of implied that it wouldn't be available in non-apple stores then, but idk.

try here in rocky mount. most of the folks around here can't afford fancy things like an ipad/iphone/etc so we've never had a supply problem. IF people decide to line for something on launch day, the line is like 10 people long lol

I've never been in an apple store in my entire life, this is the first apple product I'm considering purchasing since the old aluminum shelled ipod mini (first generation). I don't know enough about how they operate to know if that was a stupid question or not.

I ordered a 32GB wi-fi only because I will predominately use this around the house, so no need for the 4G. I also didn't order a smart cover yet because I wanted to go in to the store near my house and get a better feel for the textures.

Yes, it's a YMMV in store only. Not open box. Walmarts are closing them out (apparently).

Unfortunately their prices and promotions vary from store to store and state to state. And Walmart won't pricematch to themselves LOL.

Also ebay had the 32gb wifi on sale this morning for $399.

Prices are about to tumble on refurb iPad 2's, and I'm offering a fair price before that happens.
