It was literally one random poster on PP that said he'd "be shocked" if Bam didn't commit today. No one else is giving it much credit.

I'd love to see it happen, but not banking on it.

I could see him committing at the first exhibition game or something like that but then again, DSJr just sent out a random tweet and that was that.

Evan Daniels is the big recruiting guy on Scout. He tweeted that he believed both State and St Johns were in good position with Rawle Alkins and that KY wasn't involved in his recruitment.

I mean, he's from NY so St. Johns is his hometown school, but now he goes to school in Raleigh so we'd be in his comfort zone to a certain extent as he makes friends here, etc.

Kentucky is only out of the picture because they're in better with other SGs so it doesn't really make sense for him to go there.

247 Sports' Crystal Ball has us at 44% UK 39% and StJ 6% UNC 6% and Villanova 6%

I see him coming here if and when Bam commits. We'd be contenting for a National Championship, he'd get tons of minutes, and we're his "second hometown" so to speak. I think St. John's is the big competitor if he decides to go back home but I doubt they'll be on the same level of contention for a NC.

St. John's also just lost to Division II St. Thomas Aquinas 90-58 in their exhibition game...

Problem with Alkins living in NC right now, is that he's made several references to missing home already. Think that's why St. Johns is a strong contender. He could go there, get a TON of minutes, but likely not compete, basically something similar to what Newman did this year.

St. Johns got blown out, but their 3 top players weren't playing(2 waiting on NCAA clearance, 1 hurt), so they're bad but they'll get better for sure, lost their top 6 players from last year.

That being said, if we take care of our business and continue recruiting him like we have, we'll be in good position to land him, depending on how the season goes. I think the biggest thing will be how we look at SG this year. If someone locks down the starting job, might be hard to convince him to come here and compete for minutes. Getting Bam will be a key piece to getting Alkins though, so hopefully that'll happen soon. Alkins on the other hand will be a late signee, think his recruitment will go a lot like Newman did this past season.

still might be 2nd to duke. they've got three 5 stars and one 4 star. according to scout they have 2 of the top 3 players in the nation.

probably a pipe dream, but if we were to get alkins, bam, azubuike along with smith jr that would also be three 5 stars and one 4 star. but because they have 2 of the top 3 players in the class, i think they'd have the #1 class locked up.

While it would be the best class we've had in the modern era, it still wouldn't be as good as Duke's class. Also, I highly doubt we will land all of these guys. Would be amazing though.

Eh Giles is 2017 class now by default because he is gonna miss next season. I know it doesn't count against them but one less great player in the ACC the year we have DSJr.

i don't know...i think people are expecting Dennis Smith Jr to sign. as far as recruits that haven't committed, i have no clue what to expect. some have said bam was expected to sign in the fall, which could mean we'd have a decision any day now. but he may drag his recruitment out a while, who knows.
