"Do you want to play for National Championships or lose to William & Mary?"

- text from Calipari to Bam that helped flip him to UK, according to some rando on PP.

Just a ruthless, savage power move by Calapari, if true. Gotta give him credit, that text is perfect.

Raleigh is such a better city than Lexington though.

I mean, if I were a coach, this is exactly what I would say to someone. Nothing untrue and gets the point across in a very simple way.

the thing is that these days young, elite recruits don't give a shit about college. they know they're headed for the NBA and it's all about whichever is the best conduit to get them maximum visibility and maximum hype.

FWIW, Gott has made the tourney the past four years. Cal can't say that.

^ I think Cal could probably come up with a good rebuttal to that argument.

Any more PackPride posters who have hacked Calipari's text messages? I heard Obama influenced Bam's decision.

If that text from Calipari is real I guess that's fine

But we probably wouldn't lose to William and Mary if we had better players

Yeah would have been easy for Gott to respond, "I didn't make the NIT with a roster of 5* players."

it doesn't really matter anymore. What happened against WandM was embarrassing, and you can't expect a teenager that is making a life-changing decision to sit back and be rational about it.

Do you really think that one loss is the reason Kentucky beat us out for a recruit? He knows what NC State is its not like he thought we were a top 5 program and then saw the W&L loss and then did more research.

This kid has stayed interested in us all the way through despite some other bad losses too. The kid picked Kentucky, there aren't many others out there that wouldn't have done the same time to move on.

He picked Kentucky because it took awhile for some students to fill the seats in the 3rd quarter of the Clemson football game on Halloween

No, I am arguing that it was certainly more than "just one loss". It was a game against a mediocre opponent that we were supposed to give a supreme shit push-in, instead we were the ones waking up in the morning not walking straight. We really didn't even put up a fight either, and we looked like a complete disaster out there.

Ok when you find where he says, "I was going to NC State and then they lost to W&L and I changed my mind" let us know. Otherwise you are putting way to much stock in a single game in the course of a several year recruiting process where a player picks Kentucky over NC State. By your logic we should never get any good recruits, because we consistently year in and year out have "WTF was that shit?" losses. So do a lot of schools that still pull in big name players. It is the nature of college basketball, every year teams shit the bed, especially early in the year.

i mean...i'm fairly certain Bam didn't have that change of heart after 1 game.

think about it...you fall in love with a school, its staff, its current players, its future players, etc and then they lose one game and you say "fuck it i'm out". that just doesn't make sense. if he was dead set on coming to state, that loss wasn't changing his mind. i don't know what was going on behind the scenes, but common sense tells me that losing to W&M isn't what made Bam commit to UK.

I am not gonna sit here and rule out the possibility that it might have affected his decision.

That does not equal that I know what the scene looks like

I blame our weak ass crowd. Half the seats were empty, it was pretty embarrassing. It's been a while since I could attend a game, and I was disappointed to see how empty the season ticket seats were for a nationally televised game.

agreed. i was fortunate enough to attend the winthrop game and you could hear needles drop in there. granted it wasn't a huge game with a lot on the line, but except for the random heckler in the back of section 306, your own coughs echoed throughout the arena.

I definitely noticed on tv how empty the stands were at least at the start of the game. Felt like there were more people there for W&M. I assumed this is the game people would start showing up for. Maybe our rabid fanhood of supporting a team despite them not being great every year is finally catching up to people, who knows?

I was thinking about going to the W&M game, but like fuck paying $64 for 2 upper level seats. Or $86 for two lowers. To watch a not very good team in a not important game for 2 hours. Maybe the prices will drop and I'll start going, but probably not.

if you want cheap tickets, http://www.seatgeek.com

aggregates all the StubHubs of the world, sorts by best "deal", includes all fees you'd pay at the third party sites in the displayed ticket price

i've bought state basketball, state football, panthers, and canes tickets on it, highly recommend

por ejemplo, tickets to saturdays games starting at $5 https://seatgeek.com/bucknell-bison-at-north-carolina-state-wolfpack-basketball-tickets/ncaa-basketball/2015-12-05-12-pm/2799920/

I will admit I stopped going to Hurricanes games since they decided to not be good anymore. Limited time and resources dictates something lost and the Canes was it. I have also dropped my NC State attendance down to 1-2 football games a year and maybe 3-4 basketball games a year.

Heard the 'Canes poor attendance is weighing heavily on the minds of future basketball recruits. They feel it is a sign of worsening Raleigh sports related economics coupled with a lack of general fan passion for sports by an ever growing RDU-based millennial generation caring more about the next Apple product than showing back up to their seats at least 3 minutes before the start of the second half.

I'm putting together a bar graph that shows this trend more clearly compared to Alabama, FSU, and Clemson.

I would assume he had already planned to catch both games (since he's considering both NC State and UNC) and he didn't just decide to leave during the game.
