More buoy data:
Grand Isle, LA - If Katrina stays on track, the eye should pass over/near this.
Southwest Pass, LA - Right at the tip of the Mississippi delta. Should be just east of the track.
Isle Dernieres, LA - This should be just west of the track.
Bayou LaBranch, LA - In the southwest corner of Lake Ponchartrain.
Waveland, MS and Pensacola, FL - 'Residual' water level is the storm surge.
These are linked to NDBC and should update as time goes on. 1 knot = 1.15 mph

winds are down to 165 but they say the pressure is still dropping which means there is a possibility that the winds arent down and they just couldnt find anythiing higher than 165 8/28/2005 4:54:35 PM |

Thats what they just said on CNN. The weather dude said it was the difference between getting run over by a freight train and an 18 wheeler. Your gonna die no matter wut 8/28/2005 5:25:11 PM |

bad analogy because i rather get ran over by an 18 wheeler any day. much more chance of survival over a train 8/28/2005 5:36:49 PM |

exactly...if you see on the previous page of this thread, I posted that an article I found stated the Superdome can withstand wind of up to 200 mph....but with potential gusts over that number, why risk it? (well of course if you dont have the transportation, I guess this is the best some can do) 8/28/2005 6:03:54 PM |

looks like New Orleans is pretty much getting spared compared to how bad it could be. Storm center passed to the east which means offshore wind flow, meaning less storm surge. However some surge can probably be expected on the north side of the city off of Lake Ponchatrain.
The hardest hit areas should be from Gulfport/Biloxi to Mobile where 25-30 feet of storm surge would be likely, meaning the downtown areas will probably be under water.
And this was with a weakened Cat 3 storm... 8/29/2005 11:47:03 AM |

i am sure there are more than 74k in there, probably closer to 100k, not everyone would be able to fit in the "nose bleed" section, i guess people would start fighting and the strongest survive(the others get thrown to the field) Looks like NO dodged yet another bullet, some flooding, but not as bad had Katrina not jogged to the E(almost on landfalls on the Gulf start going E right before landfall)
ONE GOOD THING
looks like another lull in the tropics
