^^^The Intrepid has more beam and it heavier then the fountain. It is an awesome boat and nothing like a Fountain. Im not knocking foutain at all. Intrepids are just above the rest, they gel coat everywhere, under fuel tanks, battery boxes etc. The wiring is a work of art as every strand of wire is seperated and attached flush with the bulkheads. They are custom built to each customers specs and they resale like whoa. 7/29/2005 12:32:51 AM |

I don't know alot about Shearline... Are they a sister company to Jarrett Bay or something? For some reason I was thinking that they are.
Anyone know alot about them? I'm going to do a little research on their boats right now.
And as for this motor vs. wind argument.... I've spent a lot of time on Sailboats (my parents LIVED and traveled on one non stop for 2 and half years) and I've spent a considerable amount of time on sport fishers too... They are both fantastic in different ways because they serve different purposes. I think that anything that gets you off the docks and out onto the water is worth appreciating.7/29/2005 10:55:59 AM |

I agree with melissa, if i could afford to i would live on a 150ft tall ship, have a fast boat (fountain, nordic etc.), have a fishing boat (30-40ft albemarle), and a wakeboarding boat. but i cannot afford all of that so i'm looking for the best combo of all of the above. (minus the tall ship, I miss you Ms. Elissa ) 7/29/2005 11:04:54 AM |

I <3 all boats. No need to talk shit about something just because it doesn't, errrr, float your boat or whatever. When I buy one it will probably be a Malibu Wakesetter though. I'm a lake person.

If both of those boats are inboards, as soon as they caught ground...you are done. I have a nasty article Im reading with Photos of Boats in inlets, just brutal stuff. 7/29/2005 12:53:15 PM |

The red boat is a V-Drive which would be just the same as grounding an inboard. I don't know about the other one. 7/29/2005 1:01:11 PM |

I've been aground many a time at OI. That damn shortcut shifts alot and isnt worth it anymore. Also almost ran aground going under the main channel under the bridge, they remarked that area but it was decided we could cut through the old channel. It went from like 20 feet to 3. Motor caught and we had to get out quick or the boat would have been gone. The inlet would have swallowed the boat. Still OI is about 10x better then Hatteras.

Ya'll are making me want to go in the ocean again. The first time I went was in this 16' pos and I told the guy he had to stay in sight of the shore so that when it sank I would have a goal to swim towards. I've been back in some nicer boats since then, but not enough to really feel comfortable navigating. 7/29/2005 1:10:19 PM |

That blackwell is a nice boat. They should have put twin diesels in her though. It doesn't look right with OBs. 7/29/2005 2:10:44 PM |

A ton of the builders are moving to outboards. The resale, maintence is making them more of a viable option on mid sized hulls. 7/29/2005 2:12:13 PM |
taxodium Veteran 134 Posts user info edit post |
Agreed. Still......for an express style boat, I would prefer diesels for several reasons. Primarily, you shouldn't burn as much fuel. With that style of boat, you are more than likely running offshore for trolling or bottom fishing. Being that you don't have 360 degrees of fishing space in an express, the outboards would be in the way of any fish making a strong turn at the stern. The diesels would be back and a little more out of the way. All of that being said, if someone offered me that rig with OBs, I jump all over it. 7/29/2005 2:25:01 PM |

Outboard technology has pretty much eliminated the fuel gap between inboards and outboards except diesel inboards. But you are limited in close quarter maneuvers. Also adds a ton of weight to the bottom which can be seen as good or bad.

A good angler won't run into this problem. Most of my fishing is done on standup tackle and bring a fish right up to the side is no problem.7/29/2005 2:45:33 PM |

My point with the fuel is, the same boat rigged with twin diesels will have much more range than the same boat with twin OBs. I like the OBs, but on that boat I'd prefer diesels.
You are right....a good angler can direct a fish away from obstacles. The captain has just as much responsibility as the angler when it comes to fish direction. A good captian will keep the boat in the proper position depending on the direction of the fish, wind, current, and other boats. This is especially true in an express, sportfish, or any boat with out 360 degrees to work with.
I like my CC because I have a lot of inexperienced people fish with me that, even though you tell them how, my not know how to direct a fish. With my boat, I can put an angler in the bow, and do most of the position work myself at the wheel. 7/29/2005 2:59:28 PM |

Yeah its a pretty big boat. I wish Carolina Classic or Albemarle made their 25 and 26'5 in Outboards. I'm not big on the stern drive or inboard in that small of boat.
I've always liked CC and thought about that being the next boat till the weather we endured last weekend...its Express and/or Walkaround for me
