Something that appeals to the masses... Friends and ER were staples for Thursday on NBC. Seinfeld was there too but even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

some kind of tv elitist

friends was better than 90% of tv, and better than anything the networks ever conjured up to counter program with

even on its worst runs

i got mail from pam, i sent her a message on myspace saying congrats on the thursday night move and that she should try to get the nbc execs to pick up Arrested Development because of its cancellation...

Thursdays should be cool. Just found out NBC is running a promo for The Office before the movie King Kong. We've hit the big time!

^^ maybe. several years ago i became extremely cynical and annoyed at Friends though. Yes, I did watch it in High School, but at some point in college it really just started to get on my nerves. Then the more I watched it the more I couldn't stand it. I still like some of the reruns, but for the most part, I find the characters unlikable and the jokes predictable and un-funny.

but anyway, back to the subject - i just watched this weeks Office and it was excellent. The bit at the end where shit-faced Meridith walks into Michael's office and takes off her shirt, obviously looking for some naughty on-the-desk sex with the boss, then Michael gives a surprised look, whips out the camera for a picture then walks out to go to the bar, that was golden. Carrell couldn't have played that one any better for his character.
But speaking of Michael, i'm finding he's playing off the camera just a bit too much. I dunno, maybe it's part of his character because he's so egotistical and concerned with his image, but it seems like almost everything he says now he has to give some kind of notice of the camera.

^ yeah I think thats right, because bosses want things to appear great when their place of work is on display in front of important people

"First of all, that's what she said."

I want a boss who gets the sexist joke out of the way before getting to the important things.

Yep, 9:30. NBC's trying to make another Thursday Night Must See TV. I don't know about that.

I like Scrubs and The Office but NBC isn't going for broke with Thursday nights b/c they are keeping Scrubs on Tuesday and using Will & Grace (which should have died about 5 seasons ago) and some new show called Three Kings to fill the first hour. I do like how The Office has really picked up steam in the last couple of months.

its kinda sad to see that "The Office" can't just stay in the office

i mean, we don't take booze cruises in my office

i hope it just doesn't get so detached from what makes life in an office funny...

It's funny as hell when they go out of the office, but it could quickly turn into a problem since they are in the "documentary" single-camera style, where they are basically forced to acknowledge the presence of the camera and have some kind of explaination for why it's there. It was already a stretch when the camera followed Michael and Dwight for the house-signing, then it came to Jim's party, and it even showed up, apparently hiding in the bushes of Michaels' apartment, on Halloween night. The trip to the do-jo was ok because that resulted directly from something that started in the office.

Whatever they've done, though, it's still been funny as hell.

FWIW, while I don't watch Ellen I will watch it in about 5 minutes on NBC as Carell will be on her show today.

yeah.... if you wanted to get someone hooked on the office, hopefully tonight wasn't the first one they watched. It was funny, and I actually dig all the relationship business between pam/jim/roy, but it had just a tiny fraction of the laugh out loud moments of any other episodes.
