^^ He's certainly not going to get 7 years, $80 million like Boras is asking. I think the Yankees are counting on him recognizing that and jumping on this offer.

Well A.J. Burnett is going to the Blue Jays so there goes the top free-agent pitcher. ESPNews just said Millwood is prolly gonna sign with the Mariners. He is a better pitcher anyway. He led the AL in ERA at like 2.40.

^^i would give them Cano, wang and duncan for Willis. He is a dominant lefty and is only 23. He is also a big, durable guy.

Hell I would give them any player on the roster shy of A-Rod, Jeter or Rivera.

Oh I'm not saying it wouldn't be a good idea. I'd be a lot more forgiving of trading Cano, Wang and Duncan if we got Willis.

But for the Marlins to say no to Cano and Wang, whom everyone has been after, during their firesale...well it just seems like it won't happen.

from ajc.com

Quote :
" The Braves are working on a major three-team trade that would bring Boston shortstop Edgar Renteria to Atlanta, two persons familiar with negotiations said Tuesday.

Atlanta would send a top prospect, likely third baseman Andy Marte, to Tampa Bay and the Devil Rays would send shortstop Julio Lugo to the Red Sox in the deal, which was characterized as "percolating" late Tuesday by a person familiar with the talks.

Renteria, 29, would certainly qualify. He's a four-time All-Star who has three seasons left on a four-year, $40 million contract he signed with the Red Sox last winter."

Mets are looking into acquiring Zito. The rumors out of Dallas are that Omar and Zito are sitting down talking about the possibilities of him signing after 2006 if a trade does happen...

Yea and the best thing is he isn't doing it in expense of the future. These guys will all be along for a LONG time:

Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Diaz/Nady, Seo, Heilman (unless he is in the Zito deal but they are the same age anyway).

Add in two stud Pitchers like Philip Humber and Mike Pelfry in the minors (well one isn't signed yet) and top flight OFer Lastings Milledge and the future is just fine with the payroll flexibility the new network offers...

Doubtful. If the Mets don't trade him his contract can be voided. There is no way he would make CLOSE to as much on his next contract as this one in the free market.

It would be stupid. You're wrong..

*** Astros aren't re upping with Clemens..

Estrada traded for 2 pitchers
The Atlanta Braves moved to add depth to their pitching staff on Wednesday by acquiring righthanders Lance Cormier and Oscar Villarreal from Arizona in exchange for catcher Johnny Estrada.

Looks like Mccann will be staying. Also, the D Rays killed the proposed deal for Renteria to the Braves. Hopefully the Sox and Braves still work it out.

neither of those guys are that exciting, but we get to dump estrada and we might get something out of them

i'm pretty sure estrada knew he was gone when mccann went deep on clemens

" The Braves met with the Red Sox on Tuesday afternoon and discussed the possibility of the trade, but a deal wasn't believed to be imminent as of late Tuesday night.

Over the past few weeks, the Braves have inquired about obtaining Devil Rays shortstop Julio Lugo, but were always asked for far too much in return. But they would be willing to part with a top prospect like Andy Marte if they were able to get a four-time All-Star like Renteria in return. "

I'll still miss Furcal, but I can deal with Renteria. I hope we can get him.

i really can't believe texas let him go. i mean wilkerson is a nice player, and sledge might be, but soriano is the best offensive 2nd baseman in the game. at least get a top flight pitcher for him

"DALLAS -- After battling through a difficult 2005 campaign in Atlanta, the Braves dealt reliever Dan Kolb back to the Brewers on Wednesday.

Atlanta acquired right-hander Wes Obermueller in exchange for Kolb, who followed his 2004 All-Star season with Milwaukee by posting a 5.93 ERA and converting just 11 of his 18 save opportunities with the Braves. "

Yep. And if you look at his 2005 splits he had a sub-.250 BA on the road and only 12 HRs. Now he will be playing 81 games in the WORST hitters park in the majors. On top of that he will play 9-10 games respectively in Shea, Turner, and Florida -- 3 pitchers parks as well..

Honestly I expect .250-.260, 20 HRs, 85 RBIs (less if he is a leadoff hitter). On top of that there are rumors he'll play in the outfield. Talk about a butcher...

cue chris berman: "what a great CAPTAIN to lead this team, he stepped up, with the "C" on his jersey and everything, and learned how to catch a knuckleballer. man what a captain like thing to do, stepping up to help the team"

I like Varitek as much as the next guy but announcers, Berman in particular, won't shut up about him being the captain

ive heard they've already asked wakefield if theres a catcher around that he would like to throw too...i think that was one of the stepping stone to the trade.

Jarrod Washburn was not offered arbitration. No one would lose a draft pick for him..

I hope the Benson to KC deal for Affeldt and MacDougal goes through and the Mets sign Washburn. That would instantly improve the pen and bolster the rotation..

I'd be happy if the Red Sox offloaded Clement and signed him as well..

Either way as long as one of my teams gets Washburn!

What would you do if 1986 repeated itself?

That's the quickest way to find out where the true allegiance is rooted.

Last year, State's women's bball team played my aunt's Seton Hall team. I tried to pretend I would stay neutral and just cheer for good plays. Before the tip-off even happened I was cursing State.

I live and die with both but I went to my first Mets game at 2 weeks old and had season tix for 8 years. My Mom is the Red Sox fan so I picked that up at like Age 3 but my Dad has always been more outspoken..
