I just wish Amato spent half the time recruiting NC kids than he does FL kids. Do you want to know why we always seem to have FSU's number yet lose to UNC all the time? Because the majority of the kids we have hold a grudge against FSU for not offering them and really get up to that game. But since they are not from here, they don't really care about the UNC game. I'd take the top 25 kids from NC over 25 kids ranked 100-200 in Florida any day of the week. We need to make NC FIRST before going into other territories and getting their rejects.

It actually makes a good point that I really haven't noticed, you bringing this up... and maybe you're on to something with the "North Carolina is strength and Florida is Speed"

3/4 of our speedy skill position players (WR, Secondary, LB) are from Florida. The ugly guys are from NC.

Oh, and for the record, here are those numbers (I'm home from work now). Actually... I was waaaaay off... so i'm killing my own point here, but they're noteworthy anyways...

(These are going to be super f-ed up format-wise)

NC State
2005 2004 2003 2002 Totals
FL 7 5 12 9 33 35.5%
NC 10 7 8 8 33 35.5%
PA 4 3 3 0 10 10.8%
VA 2 1 3 2 8 8.6%
SC 1 0 0 0 1 1.1%
AL 0 1 0 1 2 2.2%
GA 0 1 0 2 3 3.2%
CT 0 0 1 1 2 2.2%
NY 0 0 0 1 1 1.1%
Total 24 18 27 24 93

My memory sucks ass, apparently.... and I just totally pwnt myself by posting these numbers

Packman, as much as I wish we could be loyal to our home state... and wish we would get up for UNC.... you go to where the talent is.

If you're trying to get laid any given night...and had a free pass for anywhere... would you go to ECU or NC State?

I'm sure that if we could actually beat UNC in a rivalry game, we may snag more in-state recruits.

Even if we're the better team on paper, players will join UNC because they're the best team in the state, and they can prove it by beating up on us all the time.

Thats my point....our guys dont get up for that game enough because they're from FLORIDA. Meanwhile, UNC is all about beating us because their kids are from here and know how heated UNC/State rivalry is. I just wish Amato would spend alot more resources to this state than to recruiting guys in FL where you have to compete with Miami, FSU and Florida at the very least. It's fine when he was an assistant at FSU and they were constantly getting the best out of that state. It's another thing when you go there and only get the leftovers from the big three. Good luck trying to win an ACC championship when Miami and FSU are both outrecruiting you year in and year out in FL and UNC is outrecruiting you in NC.

Something to note. Keep in mind next years in state class is regarded as MUCH better than this year:

-UNC has 46 scholarship players that will be either SO or JR next year.
-Combine that with the 28 LOI's they recieved today, that equals 74 scholarship players that will be FR, SO, or JR next season.
-Let's throw out 2 players for academic/other reasons(normal for anyone).
-The limit of scholarship players on a roster is 85.
-That means UNC only has 13 scholarships to offer next year(look for the waiver wire to heat up all over the place).
-that number may even be less, I've seen people mention UNC only has 8 scholly's to offer as of now, I just tried to do a quick count.

I realize you can only take 25 people in a year but UNC is planning on greyshirting players which means they will count against next years class.

On the other end:

-State has 42 scholarship players that will be either SO or JR next year.
-We recieved 20 LOI's, which is 62, throw out the 2 casualties, 60.
-We can take a full 25 man class next year without "mutually parting ways" with anyone.

Combine that with the fact that we have jumped on big time NC Jr's already, I'm already looking forward to signing day next year.

so if the fact we have a lot of players recruited from FL means we don't get up to play UNC, does that mean that thats the reason why we play good vs. FSU?

on a side note, i play for a club team at NC state and i'm not from NC and anytime we play UNC we are all pretty fuckin fired up, regardless of your hometown(we got players from all over). So i don't really buy that arguement. those players know what it means to beat unc, give them more credit then that.

NC's '07 class is loaded. We're looking good for a few of the big dogs already: DE Travian Robertson and QB/ATH Rodney Cox are two that come to mind.

Junior Day is (i think) on the day that we play Boston College at the RBC. Junior Day is when a bunch of our early JR targets come unofficially visit the place.

People are making comparisons of Rodney Cox to Vince Young already. But others say he won't be a QB on the next level. Who knows, but he is very high on NCSU already and some think he could commit this year.

BTW, LeSean McCoy ended up at "The U". What the hell? Everyone thought PSU or VT, I guess that shows you what these recruiting publications know. But McCoy is at prep school now already, so he could still end up somewhere else next year. He will be able to enroll at the D1 school next Jan.

My early (short) NC wish list:

Carter Sharpe (RB)
Greg Little (WR)
Ryan Houston (DE) **Must get at least1 of 2**
Travian Robertson (DE) ***Must Get at least 1 of 2**
Trinton Sturdivant (OT)
Rodney Cox (QB, DE, ATH)

All will probably be top 100 players. Little, Robertson, Sturdivant, and Cox could all be top 30 or so. Little...top 5 from what i hear.

We're the first to offer Cox, but he's drawing heavy interest from VT and USC (that's the trojans)

Gotta love this quote from Cox:

Quote :
"State is my leader," Cox said. "I've always been a Wolfpack fan. I think I'd have a better chance to start up there, and I think I can help them out.

"I also like their defense, and they've got some good running backs." "

Cox is a guy who could be a QB/WR/DE/TE, it's still too early to tell with him. But heck, give him a shot at QB if he gets any Vince Young comparisons.

Ryan Houston is VT bound from everything I'm hearing.

its still too early for anything. Except Cox has grown up a wolfpack fan.

btw, i don't think McCoy will qualify. At least that was what I had heard, maybe that changed and that's why UM got back into it.

phish... McCoy is at Milford Acad. for a year. He's goin' to "The U" next January (if he gets out of the prep school). Probably a lot can change though, he may still end up at Penn State.

Aleric Mullins to UNC probably won't work out either. Word is, he won't qualify and will go to Hargrave or another prep/juco for a year. Oklahoma backed off Mullins because of grade issues. He may still end up at UNC, but from the way it looks now... he'll be at a prep/juco. We all know that UNC will work it out for him though and he'll be suited up next year.

A couple of links posted on the disturber today regarding ACC recruiting:

http://www.newsobserver.com/752/story/395472.html

http://www.newsobserver.com/752/story/395353.html

Notice in the second link when it tries to give a positive on each player, Gary Gregory's comment is pretty crappy:

Quote :
"OL Gary Gregory - Apopka, Fla., 6-5, 295

* All-state lineman bench presses 255 pounds
"

Obviously OL don't really have any stats to talk about and I doubt they track pancake blocks in HS, but a 6-5 295 player benching 255 is not a highlight. I'd hope an All-State OL that weighed 295 could bench atleast 350.

I'm not trying to sound like a braggart, but just to put his bench press in context I will say this. I weighed 150 in high school and my max one rep bench was 250. So I gotta say that for a man Gregory's size that is pathetic. Good riddance.

Gotta be a typo. I'd imagine he benches 355 instead of 255.

We got some studs in this class.

^what he said???

I have heard that oklahoma backed off of Aleric b/c of grades, and if they did I am sure UT might have as well....

He will not be on the roster next year from what I can tell, will be a prep school, or grayshirt

have also heard that another one of the UNC 4* may not make the grades this year either

thats 2/4 down if it shakes out that way

I've actually heard that he will probably never qualify.

That's about it. OU backed off b/c of grades, as was said.... not sure about the other powers.... but he's got a lot of work to do. From what I understand he's a loooong ways off...as in "Chad Green" distance off. We all know what happened to Chad Green.

Oh, and as far as East Wake being UNC homers... that's not rumor. It's just the way it is

that was my prediction, that kid is way off...i think everyone but UNC and maybe UT backed off. I'm sure we would've taken him as well in hopes, but he backed off of us.

Bump

Not looking good with Darin Baldwin. Looks like he'll be signing with UF. Sucks.

Quote :
"The South Dade senior defensive back, who skipped out signing a national letter of intent with North Carolina State on national signing day to await his SAT scores, said Friday night he expects to receive those scores today.

''[UF assistant] Doc [Holiday] just called me right now,'' said Baldwin, a 6-0, 170-pound cornerback with 4.5-second 40 speed. ``He said he could FedEx me the paperwork tonight. I told him to hold off until I get those scores. I want to make sure I get those test scores first.''

does this mean they offered him a scholarship?

I can understand/deal with not getting him as long as he gets a scholarship from UF.

I was looking at my dad's copy of the latest ACC Sports Journal when I was at home yesterday, and they had a ranking of the top 50 or so incoming ACC prospects.

I thought it was very interesting that four or five State recruits were on the list, and only one from UNC.

Gives a totally different perspective from all the star rankings and hype.

^there is ALWAYS a different perspective from the Holes/Local Media perspective....as a state fan you just have to look a little harder for it, and choose not to have the tar heel company line shoved down your throat!
