This has been without a doubt the most insane game of the playoffs

Buffalo ties it at 5 with 1:30 left in the third. Then, 24 seconds later, Ottawa scores to go up 6-5. Then, with 10 seconds left and Ryan Miller pulled, Buffalo ties it at 6, and we go to overtime.

Heh, I can barely believe it. I honestly thought Ottawa would have a better defense than this.

Such pathetic goaltending. Doesn't the coach have to make a decision at some point?

That loss is squarely on Ray Emery for singlehandedly allowing goal #6.

Let's go Sens! (And Canes!)

Tonight will be an interesting experience in trying to pay attention to 2 games at once!

Buffalo and Carolina are both flexing their broom weilding muscles. This series will hopefully be a lot more exciting to watch than round 2. Think the Cup winner will come out of this series?

^yes, I do. And although I've been pulling for the canes, I will be in the rbc screaming for the sabres......if they both make it out of this round of course

also, can someone please tell me why the sabres are playing tonight, and the canes aren't playing until the weekend? that is really weird to me, not that I really mind, because I think it helps the sabres (for this round anyway).

Is there a 1 mullet per hockey network rule? Between OLN (Brian Engblom), FSN (John Forslund), and ESPN (Barry Melrose), I haven't seen so many mullets since 1989.

By the way, OLN hired a guy named Stanley Cup for promotions:

Quote :
"SALTSBURG, Pa. (AP) -- The NHL's Stanley Cup is 114 years old, about 3 feet high, 36 pounds and engraved with the names of players and coaches who have won it.

OLN's Stanley Cup is 57 years old, 6 feet tall, 210 pounds and etched with tattoos.

The cable TV network OLN has hired a western Pennsylvania man named Stanley Cup to promote the NHL playoffs.

OLN found two people named Stanley Cup, but could track down only one. Cup, of Saltsburg, is a descendant of Pennsylvania coal miners who works at a steel mill.

OLN will fly Cup to New York City on Wednesday, where the network will tape some promotional spots. After that, OLN hopes Cup will appear at several playoff games. He's taking vacation from work to do the promotions, and the network will cover his travel expenses and provide a small stipend.

Cup wants only three things for his trouble -- a picture with the real Stanley Cup, tickets to one playoff game and another tattoo.

"I told my friends at work that when I get back, I'm going to get another tattoo," said The Indiana Gazette on Thursday. "Definitely of the cup, as soon as I get back.""

It's all over in Ottawa. Pominville breaks in and beats everybody for a shorthanded goal in overtime.

that's why I'm a believer in not playing forwards on defense... Alfredsson looked completely lost.

^^it really is a different mindset, but I believe there are some players that can handle the adjustment

now it's up to the canes to handle their business, and I can see the sabres in raleigh!

true... there are some Forwards that I would trust at the point.

Bondra and Federov come to mind... Both were deadly from the point.. moreso then Alfredsson... and both could actually play defense.

but when you're talking about an elimination playoff game in overtime... and you have the crazy amount of talent that Ottawa has on their bench, just keep it safe and put two defensemen back on D. Redden and Chara are plenty effective on the powerplay.

^^ That wouldn't make any difference. A defenseman (I think it was Redden, but I could be wrong) was directly responsible for the last time the Sens got bounced when he left his man on an odd-man rush.

^that's just an opinion...

Don't tell me Alfredsson is as good as a defender as Redden.

did you see the play? Alfredsson was directly responsible for that goal. You put a defenseman in his play, chances our he doesn't get completely turned inside out.

definitely... they're one of the faster teams... and I really will enjoy watching a matchup between them and Carolina(/off topic)

However, to me.... that's just all the more reason to have defenseman out there. Putting out a speedy winger on defense is not as effective as having a defenseman on defense. Redden and Chara are pretty damn good defensemen... hell if that was Chara then there is no way Pominville even tries that move.

Now, if Ottawa is down a goal or two late and needs a comeback, then sure... go ahead and put Alfredsson at the point to try to play QB with maybe Havlat, Spezza and Heatley down low.... however, in a tied playoff game in OT I'd put out 2 defensemen every time.
