yeah i noticed while watching the the whole conference deal, it seemed like their stance was to put graphics on the back burner, which just seems odd to me

No, that was not confirmed in the conference. Nintendo stated that they have 27 titles on the floor for people to demo but they did not specify them as launch titles (it would be like assuming every 360 title at last year's show was a lanuch title, which of course they weren't).

EGM next issue (with Zelda/Wii on the cover) apparently states that the Wii console will be priced at $250. This was on either Kotaku or Joystiq.

in the gaming industry, you realize that "expert" includes 13 year old kids who figured out how to put together some fucking website and call themselves a "journalist" right?

The "gaming industry experts" are usually stupid fucktards.

Yeah I think it's interesting that Rockstar has decided to release GTAIV for both systems on the same day.

As impressive as San Andreas was, I can't imagine what new features will lay in store with the new systems.

I was wondering how everybody was getting "games available at launch" from "games playable on the show floor"

So some of the execs at my company are at E3. I'm freakin' pissed off. I'm the damn Games Team Lead and I don't get to go to the games expo.

I just want to go because it would be fun. Also, we don't develop games, we just qualify them.

That's been a big part of their philosophy for the last two-three years. It was basically confirmed from day one that the Wii wouldn't be as powerful as the PS3 or 360.

if the controller on the Wii is what it's supposed to be, I don't care about the graphics. People get so hung up on graphics that they forget that there are so many more important parts of the gaming experience that people miss when they waste their time getting a hard-on for great graphics.

i bet PS3 comes down in price within 2-3 months after coming out. people just aren't going to pay that much for a system. that's a lot of money for people to dish out on something like that.

it'll sell out initially. you'd be dumb to think otherwise. but after a bit (read: the initial rush/hype) it wont sell nearly as well at that price compared to its competitors.

"The general recap of the information [relayed in the EGM article], however is:

- $249 Price tag
- Virtual Console (we knew this)
- 3d Controller (we knew this)
- ALWAYS online (console is always online, even when OFF)
- Built in speaker on the controller
- No improved graphics on Virtual Console (as in, they aren’t redoing the models, doesn’t talk about framerates and such).
- TG16 will have it’s 1st party games out at launch, 3rd party will come later as demand increases.
- Estimated prices for the VC are “a few dollars for NES, $5 for SNES and $10 for N64?
- VC games are pro-scan enabled.
- $250 “seems appropriate”
- More 3rd party exclusives than the Cube"

Really. People were buying the 360 on eBay for $1K - why wouldn't people line up to get PS3s for $600?

I think the 199 price tag would work better for nintendo but im still getting one at 250. They should think about including a few of the VC games for free as well.

^You can access any of the Nintendo library of games from the NES, SNES, or 64 and play them on your Wii.

Not sure if they download or you're just able to play them off their servers.

I'm as excited as the next about Wii, but I've been reading some disturbing reports from people that have had play time w/ the controller.

a lot of the posts at http://www.joystiq.com have been kinda negative. Controls too sloppy/loose or too sensitive. I think it's gonna be rough for a while until devs figure out the best way to use this controller.

having games with repetitive tasks is bad enough. throw in that you actually have to PHYSICALLY do those tasks and that could be a possible killer.

Its not free though. Look at the prices quoted from the latest EGM magazine.

I would say Nintendo and Microsoft are upstaging the hell out of Sony. MS is very strong this year, especially with the expanded Live Arcade and mobile/PC integration. Nintendo is also colling a bit as people play the demos and realize its not quite what they were expecting, though still good... SOny totally dogged it this year.

THis is exactly what I expected. Having had the Logitech motion controller it just doesn't translate nearlly as smoothly as one would think.. hell, sometimes I'd go crazy just trying to get the damn thing level and steady (like for flying). I think it will be outstanding for the traditional Nintendo style fun games and party games where the controls are fairly simple but it will fail miserably for more in-depth or complex action games and simulation sports games.
