And the award for dumbest county in District 13 goes to.....
Person County!
Almost half voted for Vernon Robinson...

The sad thing being that Wake county was right behind them. 11/8/2006 1:05:00 AM |

"I think we did a great job of giving voters a choice between a mainstream conservative and the most liberal Democrat in the South," Robinson said. "Voters have made their decision, and we're just waiting for the results to come in."" |

Robinson played by Miller's rules...Miller beat him at what he does best, attacking the candidate's character, not his positions. 11/8/2006 1:22:35 AM |

If anything, Robinson sabotaged his own campaign with those hokey, ridiculous ads that backfired and portrayed him as being less then rational. 11/8/2006 1:25:32 AM |

I do think the issues were important. You just can't address those issues in a manner reminiscent of the "Head On" commercials. 11/8/2006 1:36:42 AM |

Are you from North Carolina? Were you born here? What the fuck do you presume to know about North Carolinians if you think that homosexuals and Mexicans are on the forefront of North Carolinian's minds? Robinson lost because he is batshit crazy that gave conservatives a bad name. It only stands to reason that a sad troll such as yourself would want to snuggle up to his message of hate and fear. You lost. QQ more. Bitch.11/8/2006 1:43:24 AM |

I'm just shocked that he garnered, what, 36% of the vote. That's kind of scary if you think about it. I just have to convince myself that most of those votes came from straight ticket voters that didn't think about what they were doing. 11/8/2006 8:12:29 AM |

i'm willing to bet that the majority of his votes came from folks who filled in the bubble for straight party republican
i don't want to believe people actually filled the bubble next to his name 11/8/2006 8:31:37 AM |

This is just me going out on a limb and wildly speculating, but...
Vernon could very well be the new George Wallace. He uses the politics of fear to gather millions of vocal supporters. The GOP won't support him (he was the only candidate not invited to meet w/ Bush when he was in Greensboro), and that party is the only one he is remotely close to. Wallace ran on wedge issues like bussing and growing trade deficits, all while maintaining the guise of the "law and order" candidate. We've seen that while Robinson wasn't popular in Raleigh and Greensboro, both urban areas. He could very well win a race in a less urban, diverse area based on these issues, especially in poorer areas where he can blame illegal immigration, race quotas, etc. for the lack of weath or employment, similar to Wallace taking hold in poor Alabama. We know there are enough people who agree with his agenda nationwide (80% of contributions from out of state), so he has national appeal and attention. If he wins a major office somewhere (anywhere, I mean, residence didnt keep him out of this race), he should pick up the momentum to gain support for his anti-immigrant, anti-liberal, "law and order" platform, just as Wallace did with segregation, protectionism, and "law and order".
He'll be back. Thankfully, he'll never amount to more than a blurb in an US history book at the most, and a small citation in an NC history book at the least, that is, if he ever wins anything. 11/8/2006 5:48:22 PM |

So has he finally conceded to the reality of his anihilation or is he still waiting for Karl Rove's "Math" to kick in? 11/8/2006 10:41:17 PM |
