55 hours,
ended with all golden bugs, 18 hearts (and 2 pieces) 44 poes, 3 bomb bags plus bomb bag upgrade, 4 bottles, and magical armor
so i got a lot of the extra side stuff, but left a lot too.
Has ANYONE beat the rollball game? i can't get past level 8 and it just starts to really piss me off

cave of trials is the hardest part of the game, and such little fucking reward. although fighting 2 armored guys, an armored guy and 2 dragon knights, and 3 armored guys at a time definitely makes whooping things asses a lot easier later on 12/7/2006 5:49:09 PM |

i just beat the lantern cavern in lake hylia. make sure you have a ton of bombs and full lantern oil with a bottle full as well.
there are 3 poes and a heart-piece. if you fall off a ledge, you have to start back at the beginning. it is time consuming, and challenging 12/9/2006 3:39:47 PM |

I have finished the game.
It amazes me how much of a polar opposite this is to OoT. TP had an awesome combat system that blows away OoT, but OoT had SIGNIFICANTLY better boss fights. OoT also had much better music and MUCH better plot. In OoT, the Triforce and Master Sword were big deals, but they are pretty much tossed aside in TP. 12/12/2006 10:33:24 AM |

this game goes way too easy on you. even when you get hurt in the final boss battles you only lose half a heart.

shooting arrows was tons of fun. i'd pay full price for a game where you do nothing but shoot goblins with the bow.

The boss fights really do disappoint me. Not only do you not take enough damage, but there are pots in every boss room that have hearts in them. Not to mention the fact that they are often outside of the boss's threat range so you can leasurely gain health back when needed.
And every main boss fight was a gimmick. Once you figured out the gimmick, you win. Half the time, Midna will even tell you what to do. In all honesty, I thought all the miniboss fights were significantly better.
<<<Spoiler>>> I mean, the Gannon/dorf fight was nice, but the whole separate fights thing didn't work as well as it could have.12/12/2006 10:31:11 PM |

did anyone else pre-order at ebgames in cary?
since today was release day i stopped by, only to find out they weren't sure when they would be receiving their shipment. So I went to best buy and they had plenty. I went ahead and picked one up, cause i wanted to play tonight.
It just sucks that i had to waste an extra 5 bucks to guarantee a copy at a video game store, and they dont even have them on release day.
but anyways its time to try it out. 12/12/2006 11:38:38 PM |

So far I'm liking the puzzles. OoT dungeons revolved around finding a key most of the time to finish up. MM, WW, and TP definitely have better puzzles that are engaging without stumping you for a long time.
Quote : | "OoT also had much better music and MUCH better plot." |
I hear ya on the music, but OoT's plot wasn't that great. I completed the Temple of Time and it's tossed a few interesting twists. I hold out final judgement until the end though.
Quote : | "In OoT, the Triforce and Master Sword were big deals, but they are pretty much tossed aside in TP." |
This is definitely a good thing. The Master Sword and Triforce had been major plot points in LttP, OoT, and WW. It was getting a little tiresome IMO.12/13/2006 12:02:46 AM |
CapnObvious All American 5057 Posts user info edit post |
By plot in OoT, I also mean character development. I really enjoyed going to each temple as adult Link and seeing who would be the guardian spirit. And the whole Shiek/Zelda aspect was great. Learning about Link's heritage and the fact that he wasn't one of the elf people was interesting. I was like "Whoa, they are all still small!"
I can understand the Master Sword not being a big deal in this game. However, if you are going to include the Triforce, it needs to be more than just this random power that the gods decided to empart upon three random individuals. 12/13/2006 12:14:14 AM |
ussjbroli All American 4518 Posts user info edit post |
^ thats because this one tried not to deal with the triforce, the triforce is really only mentioned because you can't have gananondorf w/o it. for the most part it deals with the original magic of hyrule, the magic that the twili were banished for abusing.
the master sword was still a big deal, necesary to cut through the shadows and kill gananondorf. what i'd wished they'd explored more was the sky city. wanted to know more about the oocco

Picked this up (GC version) past Tuesday. I beat it last night, but have been going back and doing some more exploring to find as much extra stuff as I could. I will definitely be playing through this game again.
Overall I really like this game, but there're a few things that annoy me so far. One is how easy the combat is. It's not quite as easy as Wind Waker, but it's still pretty easy. You have to either be a complete newb or just totally fail at this game to die in combat. On that note, I was dissapointed by the lack of challenge during the boss fights; defeating the boss wasn't really a battle, it was just solving another puzzle. But in my experience it's very difficult for any game to get combat difficulty just right; it's either too easy and requires no effort, or it's frustratingly hard to the point that it's just no fun. Fighting the giant skeleton thing was really fun, though.
The other thing that I wasn't real impressed by was the story. It was okay, but none of the super-secret "revelations" were really that surprising to me. In fact, I called several of them before they were even revealed. After the whole Sheik/Zelda thing, it seems really hard to have any good suspense and plot-twists. But I was also expecting the ending to explain the events leading up to Wind Waker, and it did no such thing.
And finally, the camera controls are really pissing me off. Any time I turn the camera, it immediately defaults back to behind Link. It also seems to have only two altitude settings; far away and really far away. I want to be able to zoom in on Link and examine the finer details of his tunics and stuff, and the camera won't let me. 12/17/2006 6:10:30 PM |

i want to play the GC version to see if the combat is easier, or the same as in Wii. I've only played with the Wii controls and love it so far. I agree that the combat is a little easy...
When I think of hard boss fights..I think of Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2. Some of those boss fights were REALLY HARD. Almost to the point where it got frustrating (as mentioned earlier). 12/17/2006 7:33:42 PM |

Sheik and Zelda I saw coming a mile away.

OK, I'm about to beat the game, but am going back to get some stuff I missed before. There's one thing though that is stumping me that is driving me craaaazy. If you warp to the Bridge of Eldin, and look off to your left, you can see some platforms going down to a cave. I can get to the 2nd to last platform but *cannot* get to the ledge with the cave on it, it's too far! Also, if you go in the other cave near the bridge, it's a huge fire pit with no way to get down to the stuff at the bottom. Are these two things connected, and regardless wtf do you do here??
As a side note I have pretty much all the items.
Oh, and this game rocks. 12/17/2006 10:12:28 PM |
BDubLS1 All American 10406 Posts user info edit post |
yes they are connected....
the cave with the fire pit leads to the ledge you couldn't reach, that is the exit..
in the fire pit room, you need to just take a leap of faith off the platforms...and equip a certain item...that has magnetic properties.....ahem....
think about that... 12/17/2006 10:21:56 PM |

Finally finished the game today. I think the plot was great, most of the typical Zelda plot devices (master sword, Link-Zelda relationship, Triforce) were left on the sidelines in favor of the plight the Twilight People. The extra moves in combat made the fighting fun, even if it weren't all that challenging. 12/19/2006 1:18:14 AM |
umbrellaman All American 10892 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah I thought it was nice that you could use the shield offensively for once. And while it's neat that all the typical Zelda elements took a back seat, I would have really liked to know at what point this Link got the Triforce of Courage. Was he born with it? Could he have randomly found it one day? That's just me, though.
I had found 23/24 bugs, 19 hearts exact, and 56 poes on my own before deciding to cheat and use a guide to find the rest. I also managed to find all three bomb bags, double bomb-bag capacity, and the largest quiver on my own. I found the 600 rupee wallet on my own, but had read up on where to find the largest wallet. I also managed to get the eastern Hyrule bridge, the southern Hyrule passage, and Eldin bridge restored on my own.
Did anybody else buy the magic armor? Just from the name I thought it'd be awesome, but I have found it to be the most retarded thing ever. Powered by rupees? And not only that, it eats up rupees faster than Tingle decoding secret charts. You'd think it could at least do more, like let you run really fast or deal extra damage or something. I'd rather that they just put the Goron tunic in its place (they managed to make the Zora tunic much more useful than its OoT prototype), or even something new entirely.

In my opinion, I think they had more on the drawing board than actually made it into the game... I think they were going to include EVEN MORE items in the game...but didn't b/c they wanted to get it out this year, and not have another delay
for example..i was expecting some more tunics... a goron tunic, or shadow tunic, or something, that would have been awesome...
and another shield..i was kind of disappointed that there were only 2 major shields... 12/19/2006 4:58:45 PM |

? for ZELDA NERDS EXPERTS:
pretty much the last Zelda I played was Link to the Past (yeah, i know)
now, I've got myself a Wii (will be giving it to myself for Christmas) and Twilight Princess.
I have also picked up Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and Wind Waker for Gamecube.
here's the question: Should I play through them in order, or does it even matter at all? 12/21/2006 2:21:32 PM |
