Like I sent you in my PM. I have made exactly one thread dealing with anything related to NCSU since I have been back. And thats on a topic that was talked about in an article on ESPN, which is a highly debated topic on here. And as I mentioned, NCSU and the Panthers both lost this weekend, and you barely heard a whimper from me on those losses. And the Panthers even lost to my Falcons, and I hardly said anything about it. The old me would have been all over the boards talking shit, but I am trying to get better about trolling on here, and I didn't. 9/11/2006 3:38:20 PM |

List everything that makes a defensive lineman good and ill build a rubric
you can start with, yards per carry, receptions, yards per reception, YAC and wins
emphasis on wins

You're right. Peppers and company on carolinas defense got run all the fuck over and completly dominated by Vick. Good thing Houston is a favored superbowl contender as well.

Stuff that makes a lineman good doesn't even show up on stat sheets.
Double teams, applying pressure, batted balls (sometimes shows up), filling running holes, etc.
That said, it takes longer for linemen to adjust to the NFL than it does RB's, I won't argue that Bush didn't have a much better showing his first game than Mario did, because he did.
But even if Bush ends up better than Mario, this is the dumbest topic title ever. Does anyone think that Mario over Reggie is a worse pick than Darko over D Wade?
Anyone here think Bush will win the Saints a championship in 3 years? 9/11/2006 8:40:04 PM |

^4 i'm not sure i see your point. are you saying that houston is worse, so mario should get more tackles? cause i dont think it matters as to the quality of your own team as much as it does the personnel they put on him and his experience and technique he'll get from playing time. in both those categories, peppers has far more than williams, and yet had an equally productive game.
this comparison BS is gonna plague mario for years.

Even more proof now after the start of the season, that its pretty obvious the Texans made the wrong choice....
Quote : | "1. Houston: Even five months after the fact, it is difficult to fathom that the Texans opted for Williams over Bush with the top selection. For all the rationalization the Houston brass has done, and for all the whispers that emanated from a management team about the inability to strike a contract agreement with Bush and agent Joel Segal, the Texans know in their hearts that was a contrived excuse. If the Texans made the call truly based on position, as former general manager Charley Casserly insisted last weekend in his new role as a CBS studio analyst, so be it. Whether we buy the logic or not doesn't matter. But if the pick were made today, not on April 29, the guess is that the "signability" myth would be out the window and Bush would be the Texans' starting tailback. " |

Well no offense, but the numbers so far are adding up. And I will take that over anyones opinion on here, including my own.....
Quote : | "But, c'mon, don't you think that if the Houston Texans were exercising the top overall selection in the draft now, instead of on April 29, tailback Reggie Bush would have been the choice? We're not talking about hindsight, just the present view, OK? And currently the Houston brass is looking through a prism that does not include starting tailback Domanick Davis, shelved for the season by a knee injury.
With 70 rushing yards in last week's season-opening loss to the Eagles, the Texans were forced to start sixth-rounder Wali Lundy and to scramble for veteran backups. Bush must have looked pretty good from afar to a Texans brain trust that remains pretty sensitive when questioned about the first pick. In his debut for New Orleans, the elusive Bush totaled 141 all-purpose yards. Defensive end Mario Williams, the player selected ahead of Bush, had two solo tackles and one assist and, according to the coaching staff, had some problems with assignment and alignment in the opener. " |
I mean, I am sorry guys, I know Mario went to NCSU, but you need to dig your heads out of the holes they are in. Pretty much EVERY SINGLE PERSON involved in the NFL and pro sports says taking Mario #1 was the WRONG choice. I dont know what else has to happen before you realize this.

How many people have bought a ticket JUST to see him play, how many jerseys of his have you seen fans wearing? Id say almost none. Who has more potential. Thats right, all go to Bush. You lose, don't even try to argue this, because I am too tired to drag up all the websites that prove you wrong. How about this.....go find ALL the articles you can....on major websites that say Mario was THE RIGHT choice at #1, and for every one you find, I will find 10 more that say Bush is.
And if websites arent enough, Mario didnt even get mentioned once last week except for the fact that he wasn't even an issue, and went #1, and Bush did better, and Mario went #1, and what were the Texans thinking.

You are right, I don't either. But why does almost everyone involved in sports, except the pros on this site, say it was the wrong choice. Hell, the Texans almost admitted it, they fired the guy who drafted him #1!!!! What else has to happen before you people will admit Mario was the wrong player to take at #1?? Everyone who has anything to do with the NFL says it was, and even people on here says it was. What else do you want??

I'm not here to hate on Bush, but he did have those numbers last week at Cleveland who was third worst in the NFL in rushing Defense last year. Any one of about 30 guys in the NFL could have done that. Also keep in mind that Mario was Constantly Double teammed the whole game by a veteran O-line who played in the Superbowl less than two years ago. Not to mention that he was playing directly over perenial ALL-Pro tackle John Runyun. He also freed up Demeco Ryan who I believe had 13 tackles. Bush may have won round one, but there are early signs that Houston's D-fence first approach will pay off.
oh, and the reason the Texans can't run the ball is that they don't have an O-line, not beacause they dont have Reggie Bush. 9/17/2006 8:28:43 AM |

See, thats the point, he doesn't have to be every game. But Mario will have to have a top notch badass game over and over and over to prove he was the right choice at #1. Bush doesn't even have to play that day to take a win over Mario. Unless Mario has a totally badass highlight day, he loses.
