50 straight quickenings to kill off Wild Marlboro FTW.

Starts off with Basch and Ashe Q-chaining. They got 13.
Put in Penelo. Got 11.
Took out Penelo and put in Fran. Got another 11.
Took out Fran and put in Baltheir. Got another 15.
Didn't even get to use Vaan before Wild Marlboro was dead, which meant I prob had another 5-10 quickenings on his rotation. Decent amount of damage to kill him off before the battle even started.

i still dont understand quickenings. i take the "everyone start beating the crap out of the boss then heal when need to" approach. worked since final fantasy 2.

i have the quickenings, i dont get how you chain so many with a person. i did one with vaan, then baltheir then fran, and thats 3. how you get more than three, im clueless

I love throwing me some decoy onto my espers. I'm going after that one in the sand caves when I get back from Thanksgiving.

Hell yea. Throw Decoy, Protect, Shell, Reflect, and Haste onto them when you don't need to cure them.

so all of you who complain about quickenings making the game too cheap or easy... just don't use them. beat encounters using tactics and skill instead... makes things a lot more fun.

once you get over level 40 you will hardly ever use quickenings anyway

im at lvl 45ish now and i find its just better to let 2 chars beat the hell out of bosses rather then dump my mana on quickenings.

the only boss/mark i've done so far that really needed quickenings was Zalera, b/c of the 5-minute timer, waves of adds, and his %#$& annoying Kill ability that he likes to use 10 times in a row.

Yeah I'm well past (as in 10-15 hours) that part and my characters haven't hit level 40 yet. I've had quite a few decently tough boss battles. I think the speed of the battles makes grinding a lot easier. Plus you can accummulate license points and get all the augment squares on the license board.

Vaan is 28, Ashe is 24, Penelo is 23, Balthier, Fran, and Basch are like 18-19.

I'm still pretty far behind. Damn, the first Demon Wall is a bitch compared to the second one, and I was only able to hit a 9-chain quickening. Is there a higher probability of chains if your people have 2+ quickenings? All my people have only 1 except for Basch.

Yes, you have more to work with. When you get your second quickening, you double your mana. Your third one triples it. This ends up meaning that you can get multiple lower-level quickenings off of one mana charge, and I'm pretty sure the higher level ones give you more time than the lower levels. I might have imagined that, though.

^ Ok, so I'm guessing it's better to start the quickening chain with a level 1 quickening? That way, you still have 2x the mana remaining (assuming your guy has 3 quickenings) and therefore you raise the chance of getting longer chains?

where are the fucking mini games?

it seems like since final fantasy X the atmosphere in these games just haven't been the same, where is the golden saucer equivalent and chocobo racing/breeding?

Except for the card game in FFVIII, minigames are a pain in the ass. Usually just boring repetitive ways to make you waste time to get an overpowered weapon. I don't particularly like the 'Marks' sidequests (mostly due to all the running around required), but at least I can get some experience out of those.

It looks like I'm about to head into the final battles. I'm at level 40 and have put in 60+ hours. My level seems a bit low compared to most, but at least the boss battles have been interesting. For me the boss battles struck a nice balance. Some were a cakewalk, others really kept me on my toes, but none were the raw anal rapage that was fighting Seymour on the Snow Mountain in FFX.

^^ I liked the card game in FF9 more than the one in FF8.

^ Ruby was easier than Emerald. you actually needed to watch your HP while fighting him and you had to go into the fight with a huge handicap (limited materia) because of that storm attack he does. KOTR helps but that battle had me sweating buckets

Or... if you knew about the W-Item Materia glitch, you could walk into battle with either one of them and not have a terribly hard time since you have an unlimited number of Megalixirs.

I think this is exactly where I quit playing this damn game.

And can't you just continually summon the Doom Train to freeze Ruby, then anally rape him?

^ Yeah, congrats on getting that. I was way too far into the game before I found out about it (too late to avoid opening those treasure boxes) and I'm not willing to start over, no matter how awesome it may be. Maybe on my second time through.

there is a chest you can spawn and constantly respawn with a small chance of having the zodiac spear in the henne mines.
