8hrs and a .671 Slugging PCT

The .671 slugging % is good enough for 2nd in the league behind Bonds.

Pretty damn good.

From this morning's Denver Post......

Quote :
"Slugger stops Rockies' sweep
By Troy E. Renck
Denver Post Staff Writer
Article Last Updated: 05/06/2007 11:41:10 PM MDT

Josh Hamilton hits a two-run homer off Rockies pitcher Josh Fogg during the fifth inning Sunday in Cincinnati. (AP / Tony Tribble)Cincinnati - Hard as it is to imagine now, there was a time when Josh Hamilton lost interest in baseball. He was strung out on drugs for four years, an addict relentlessly pursuing death with every snort of cocaine or sip of Crown Royal.

His body, colored by 26 tattoos, has the look of a man who has fought demons. He found sobriety Oct. 6, 2005, and found God several months later, putting into motion one of baseball's most unlikely comeback stories.

After entering the season with just 50 Single-A at-bats since 2002, Hamilton continued his Roy Hobbs impersonation Sunday, crushing two home runs in Cincinnati's 9-3 victory over the Rockies.

The Rockies were seeking their first road sweep since June. Instead,

they were left in Hamilton's wake, another accomplice in the 25-year-old's magical rebirth.
"I can't help but feel great right now," said Hamilton, a hulking 6-feet-4, 240 pounds with size-19 feet. "It has taken time to get into the baseball routine of the good games and bad games. But it's an awesome feeling to play the way I did today."

This was the Hamilton everyone expected when the Tampa Bay Devil Rays made him the first overall pick of the 1999 draft, ahead of Josh Beckett. Hamilton garnered a $3.96 million signing bonus. A well-mannered kid with protective parents, Hamilton predicted he would play for 15 years, then wait until he was elected to the Hall of Fame.

Instead, he became one of the all-time busts. Hamilton didn't play an inning of organized ball from 2003-05 because of injuries and suspension for violating the league's drug policy. He reappeared last summer in Single-A, but because of his off-field issues the Devil Rays didn't protect him on their 40-man roster. The Cubs selected Hamilton in the Rule 5 draft, then traded him to the Reds for $100,000.

Too young for the minors, too impressionable to turn away from drugs at 20, he would certainly be too rusty to stick in

Post reporters Troy E. Renck and Patrick Saunders post entries on this blog devoted to your Colorado Rockies. Visit it here.
the majors. Well, Hamilton might have found the right time and place for himself. He's hitting .306 with eight home runs and 17 RBIs.
He went 7-for-13 against the Rockies, and, for good measure Sunday, ran down Brad Hawpe's flyball in center field in the eighth and also threw out Willy Taveras at third base in the fourth.

"We were kind of joking about it. This guy hasn't played in nearly four years, and he's Babe Ruth against us," Rockies pitcher Jason Hirsh said.

Too much Hamilton and too little pitching spoiled the Rockies on Sunday. Starter Josh Fogg, who felt like "I was 2-0 on every hitter," gave up five earned runs, including Hamilton's first home run.

The bullpen also struggled.

"To put only two zeroes on the board (from the pitching staff) all day, that's not going to win you any ballgames," manager Clint Hurdle lamented.

For Colorado there was consolation in winning its first road series. For Hamilton, every day without drugs has become a victory.

"It's no longer a struggle," Hamilton said. "I'd knock on wood, but I don't need to."

gets a kinda-ish "all star" mention in this article about clemens' deal

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2863411

Quote :
"The Rockets' $28M deal leaves a lot to the imagination. What would you do with that kind of cash? Well, Clemens could field an All-Star team all his own. New York's newest addition could afford the lineup below and still have change to spare.
Starting Lineup For Under $28M
Position Player Salary
Pitcher Brandon Webb $4,500,000
Catcher Joe Mauer $3,750,000
1B Ryan Howard $900,000
2B Robinson Cano $490,800
3B Miguel Cabrera $7,400,000
SS J.J. Hardy $400,000
OF Josh Hamilton $380,000
OF Alex Rios $2,535,000
OF Matt Holliday $4,400,000
DH Sammy Sosa $500,000
**Lineup worth $25,255,800"

Ryan Howard better start hitting better if he wants a $20+ mil/year deal.

As for Cano, this is only his third year so he's probably due for a new contract next year unless the Yanks resign him sooner. Depending on how this year finishes out for him, he could command some serious $$ considering the lack of quality hitting 2B.

sorted players by homers, he had 8 and the next closest had 4. didn't need an outfielder but hey, I'll take him... nobody was watching what he's done I guess.

I drafted him in the next to last round.

I also drafted Bonds in the late rounds.

I have won in homeruns every week.

^I was very skeptical of Hamilton and what he could do at the beginning of the season, but thankfully I picked him up shortly after the first week of the season on one of my fantasy teams. He is now an everyday starter and I wished I had drafted him on all my teams. Bonds too.

He's on the 15 day DL.....

May 21 The Dayton Daily News' Hal McCoy reports Cincinnati Reds OF Josh Hamilton (stomach illness) took early batting practice Monday, May 21 but was held out of the game. "He's feeling better and looks a little better and is available to pinch-hit, but I didn't think he looked quite well enough to play," Reds manager Jerry Narron said.

May 20 Hamilton was sent back to Cincinnati by the Reds on Sunday to be checked out by team doctors a day after he had been diagnosed with gastroenteritis.
Advice: It is not known whether Hamilton will be available Monday when the Reds open a four-game series at home against the Washington Nationals. His comeback from alcohol and drug addiction has been one of baseball's most inspiring stories this season. He was named the NL's top rookie in April after hitting six homers and driving in 13 runs.
