1/5/2008 12:59:01 PM
I tried, posted a ring.
1/5/2008 12:59:45 PM
I think they do have a point that a guy should get something too when you get engaged...So when Joe and I get a house, I am buying him a big flatscreen TV.
1/6/2008 2:08:22 PM
^ that is exactly what i said to my fiance
1/6/2008 4:02:51 PM
^^^^lol
1/6/2008 4:32:17 PM
^^^^^I like it….^^^^^I often mix up gender role stuff on purpose, like when I posted about a girl asking a guy's mom for permission to propose here's a thought:why not get an engagement pair of his and her tattoos ?even if you're not the "tattoo type", a small ring tattoo or something would be goodafter all, marriage is supposed to be forever, right? ps(I didn't mean to be a douche in this thread, I'm just REALLY fucking opposed to patriarchy, even symbolic) [Edited on January 6, 2008 at 4:38 PM. 1/6/2008 4:35:31 PM
^^^^dudes dont get something when they get engaged? i thought women got a ring and dudes got a band or something?is the engagement ring the ring you use when you get married? or do women expect a dude to buy them an engagement ring AND wedding ring?(serious question)...also, if that is true(question i just asked), for the people that want fancy ass rings, do you expect an even fancier wedding ring, or if the guy spends a lot on the engagement ring is he allowed to not get an expensive wedding ring?]
1/6/2008 4:37:10 PM
^wedding rings are generally just bands - the engagement ring is generally the one with the big rock
1/6/2008 4:41:38 PM
oh so when cansnuts is talking about that she does not consider being engaged, because her man wont get her a ring(which i feel is dumb as shit), she is talking about the ring with a big ass rock...and THEN when she gets married, she will receive a less showy band?and just for the record, dudes dont get anything when they get engaged?
1/6/2008 4:43:36 PM
sometimes the woman can buy the man a watch or something to that effect.but i'd say guys are getting off with a pretty good deal since the woman's family pays for the wedding. (which 95% of the time costs a lot more than the ring.)
1/6/2008 5:32:25 PM
the womans family pays? is this like "tradition" or what? i never knew this or had heard it anywhere.this changes my whole opinion of the situation now[Edited on January 6, 2008 at 5:54 PM. Reason : .]
1/6/2008 5:54:08 PM
ive never planned a wedding but i thought that was 'traditional' common knowledge i could be wrong and maybe this isnt the practice for a lot of people tho[Edited on January 6, 2008 at 5:55 PM. Reason : ]
1/6/2008 5:55:02 PM
yeah but then i guess after the wedding the man is supposed to pay for everything else and the woman is supposed to stay at home to cook clean and reproduce.
1/6/2008 6:02:35 PM
^^ a lot of couples choose to pay for their own weddings now. but yes, it is traditional for the man's family to do rehersal dinner. women's family to do wedding. man/man's family/sometimes both do honeymoon.^ i don't even know if i want an engagement ring or a wedding. i mean like every girl i love the thought of it all, but then when i think about it in actuality, i have a lot of personal and moral reservations about the whole idea.
1/6/2008 6:19:05 PM
haha you can read this thread and figure out which chicks are nutty
1/6/2008 7:07:15 PM
lol
1/6/2008 7:15:57 PM
i actually attended a really great wedding last night, kinda nice
1/6/2008 7:18:17 PM
^^^what the fuck are you rolling your eyes about???traditionally the man works, and the woman stays at home. traditionally the man buys a ring, and the woman's family pays for the wedding.not all traditions are followed anymore. some are.
1/6/2008 7:57:03 PM
haha
1/6/2008 8:02:30 PM
yikes touchy touchyi was just thinking modern day tradition. not pre 1950s upper class tradition. myyyyy bad yo[Edited on January 6, 2008 at 8:18 PM. Reason : .]
1/6/2008 8:08:43 PM
I take " " very personally.but anyway, the wife's parents paying for the wedding is a tradition that goes hand in hand with many of the older traditions that aren't strictly followed anymore.
1/7/2008 12:03:38 AM
More likely the tradition had turned into the parents not chipping in a cent but the woman's mom wanting to have an opinion on everything and putting them through a level of hell that makes the couple consider suicide be drowning in animal feces to be a kind death. And strangely, women still expect rings.
1/7/2008 1:02:51 AM
women expect a lot of thingsshit in one hand and want in the other
1/7/2008 4:05:46 AM
[Edited on January 7, 2008 at 9:12 AM. Reason : because all women wear dresses when biking ]

Speaking as a very traditional girl, the ring is important to me. I want a pretty one that sparkles and I can show off to my friends and family. But I'm also not saying I want 2 carats on my finger. That's ridiculous. My bf also knows that I would be livid, and even consider saying no, if he gave me a ring he couldn't afford or if he proposed before the two of us were financially ready to be in a marraige. Also, I'm buying him an incredible guitar once I get the ring. It's only fair.

So i know my gf wants yellow gold, and ive had her send me links from multiple different sites with rings she liked (i didnt care about the price i was just trying to gauge her style). she sent me a lot of rings with diamond accents in the settings. i kind of put this ring together on blue nile today going off of that:the stone i selected for now is just a .65 carat but the cut is the highest i could get, and the other options were good as well. ill probably break down for a bigger one when i actually decide on a ring, but with the non-linear price curve i cant justify shelling out some of the extra money to keep making smaller gains in size.she also has really small hands tho, and even some of the half carats we tried on looked very well sized on her finger[Edited on February 7, 2008 at 1:15 PM. Even though I don't like yellow gold...that's really pretty!
2/7/2008 1:56:21 PM
that ring is gorgeous...gg on picking that out
2/7/2008 2:01:07 PM
My fiance has small hands too We are still following the tradition of her parents paying for the wedding and mine paying for the rehearsal dinner.
2/7/2008 2:11:50 PM
^^^ haha ^^ thanksand yea i think thats what we will be doing. but we have a year or so to figure that out so we'll see.
2/7/2008 2:19:46 PM
Thats a good looking ring man. Also, most traditions are thrown out the window these days, no one wants to pay but everyone has an opinion. Yeehaw.
2/7/2008 2:20:57 PM
from page 3...beautiful. omg.

So, one of my friends just learned the hard way about buying titanium. He just lost a bunch of weight all over his body thanks to developing a heart condition, and his wedding band doesn't fit right any more, so he had to get one of those doofy plastic spacers in it, since the entire thing would need to be recast for him to change the size.Diamonds are forever? No, titanium is forever.
2/7/2008 2:51:58 PM
^i looove titaniumbetter platnumi just like the shiny silver
2/7/2008 2:53:30 PM
With titanium buy the extended warranty and they will just order you a new ring
2/7/2008 3:23:55 PM
or just buy a new one. they're really cheap.

2/7/2008 8:49:38 PM
any recommendations on where to go for a wedding band? Also, does anyone have any recommendations about what kind of band would be best for a person that occasionally does physical labor and doesn't want a band that will scratch easily? I could care less about the ring having a polish or shine to it, but I don't want to scratch it up the first time I jump on a piece of equipment or climb over a fence.
2/7/2008 10:39:06 PM
Tungsten Carbide FTW. If I thought rings were worth wearing I'd have one just because of the geek factor.
2/8/2008 12:00:55 AM
CalledToArmsMy ring is VERY similar to that. Except it has 6 prongs and it is white gold. The center stone is a carat and the sides are .6 - I love!! I highly recom this type of ring!
2/8/2008 9:23:39 AM
thanks yours is a beautiful ring too.
2/8/2008 9:29:59 AM

2/12/2008 8:00:31 AM
^ I have an heirloom ring that looks just like that, except my center stone is a pink sapphire, and the two outer stones are yellow diamonds. I get tons of compliments on it. It looks really stunning in all white diamonds - what a gorgeous choice
