shit you shouldn't do at the table while you are at a restaurant out of respect for others:
1. Talk on Cell Phone
2. Fart
3. Breastfeed
4. Pick your nose
5. Throw food
6. Chew with your mouth open
7. ...

So kids should never be allowed out in public because they will pretty much do any of the things on that list without warning.

(Except 1 obviously, although parents are giving kids cell phones now...)

It's a Chili's. If you don't want a loud place with kids there, you shouldn't go to Chili's. It's not exactly a black tie sort of place.

Kids do all of those things, and their parents are expected to reprimand them for it. There's nobody who is obligated to reprimand an adult. That's why there are different rules for adults and children. Apples and oranges.

To some extent that's true, because when you have the kid you're too tired to give a shit about other people in a restaurant anymore.

I don't think it's a problem. Just tap the mother on the shoulder and ask if you can have some.

"NEW YORK (Reuters) - Watch-maker and clothier Fossil Inc. agreed to pay $3,600 to a woman who was barred from breast-feeding her infant while visiting a company showroom, the New York Civil Liberties Union said on Tuesday.

Lass King, 37, a buyer for a Maine clothing store and a mother of two, said she received a letter of apology and the payment from Fossil after threatening the company with a lawsuit.

In its letter to King, Fossil also said it had issued a policy affirming that breast-feeding was permitted in all Fossil stores and showrooms, said Galen Sherwin, director of the NYCLU's Reproductive Rights Project.

Representatives of Fossil could not immediately confirm details of the settlement.

New York law states that women are permitted to breast-feed "in any location, public or private, where the mother is otherwise authorized to be."

King called her experience humiliating.

In August 2006, while meeting with a salesperson in a Manhattan showroom, King was told she was making others feel uncomfortable by breast-feeding her 8-month-old son, Cody.

King was taken to another floor to finish feeding Cody but was then not allowed back into the showroom. In January, as she made plans to again visit a Fossil showroom, she was told by a Fossil representative that breast-feeding was forbidden.

"I wanted to be apologized to. I wanted not to be humiliated or for anybody else to be humiliated either," she told Reuters of her decision to contact the civil liberties organization."

When I was 13 or so, I was "going out" with a girl who's mom had just given birth.

One day, me, my girlfriend, her mom, and her newborn all went out to a basketball game at our middle school. We were in the playoffs, so the gym was packed with hundreds of jr-high aged kids. Everyone was having a good time, the team was winning, yadayada -- that's when she started breastfeeding her child sitting in the stands. At that point, they might as well of called the game, because everyone's eyes focused solely on this woman's baby-glued boob.

Words can't describe the shit I got for that -- although it was NOTHING compared to the shit my girlfriend got. Moral of the story -- if you're going to breastfeed in public, pick your spots wisely. Breastfeeding inside a middle school (of all places) = NOT VERY FUCKING WISE.

^ didn't she use a sheet to be discreet? with a sheet, if done properly, no one would even come to know that it is being done.

so are you saying her boob was completely exposed? and if so, she kept on doing it? why couldn't she have gone out or to the restroom for 10 minutes?

True.

I bet most of you would be surprised how often a mom breast feeds near you and you don't even notice. Seriously, years went by and I couldn't recall seeing anyone do it (even with the blanket cover up,) then I got pregnant and started looking around at what other moms were doing and BAM, they were everywhere breast feeding.

^ ok now that is redneckish behaviour.

i have been standing up in this thread for women's right to breastfeed pretty much anytime anywhere, but not like this by exposing themselves. that's not proper.

Sure there's nothing wrong with kissing your girlfriend/boyfriend in public but people don't want you to suck face for 10 minutes straight either - especially if it's two guys

PS I was at a Red Robin a few weeks ago and this couple's kids were so out of control I ALMOST got up and asked the parents why they were such a bunch of pussies that they couldn't control three small children

Oh, and you know what else is natural? Being NAKED! So why wear clothes to a restaurant at all? I mean... it's perfectly natural to be naked so if someone gets offended, fuck 'em!!!

If I have to choose between having to see someone breastfeed her child vs. having someone's fucking cigarette violate my lungs, show me the tit.

Really there are worse things that can happen.

the fact that exposed breasts have been culturally maligned to the point that breastfeeding is considered rude BLOWS MY MIND

it is not that breatfeeding in public is rude. The point was that in some situations like at a 4-star fancy restaurant it is not appropriate to whip out your boobs and start breast feeding. If I am paying $25 per meal and $40 wine bottle to take a girl out i do not want to see some saggy fat woman's boob at the table next to me.
