i guess size is what holds both of them back. i have seen them play and i guess that is the deal. although both could definitely play on the App level, im surprised they aren't getting much attention.
what are their sizes? demuro looks solid, kornegay looks a little small. 10/30/2007 9:31:52 PM |

DeMuro has decent size (about 6'2", maybe 180-200 I'm guessing) and runs the draw like a bull. Kornegay is short (maybe 5'8") but has a big vertical and great athleticism. Both are getting hurt because some folks say it's "the system" that's putting up those numbers, not the athletes.
I saw them torch Fuquay-Varina's defense for seven touchdowns (FV has held all their other opponents to 14 points or less), and they were both terrific football players. 10/31/2007 11:59:13 AM |

This year's ADM numbers are out, to determine who goes into which sub-class (4A vs. 4AA, etc.) Most of the Wake schools are 4AA, but Fuquay-Varina and Middle Creek will be 4A.
Indy and West Charlotte will be the top two seeds in the 4AA West, provided Indy beats Butler. The 4AA East will come down to a draw between Garner, South View, and the Leesville/WFR winner. Unless they get upset, Wilmington Hoggard gets the top spot in the 4A East. The 4A West will be wide open, with every team having at least two losses, and no clear favorite. 11/1/2007 7:14:20 AM |

The playoff brackets were supposed to be posted tomorrow afternoon for all the classes, but at least some of them will have to be delayed. Bad weather along the coast (winds strong enough that bridges to the Outer Banks have been closed) has forced the postponement of at least two games - First Flight vs. Currituck and Perquimans vs. Plymouth have been re-scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. There may be more games postponed.
After tonight's games (including the Leesville-WFR blockbuster), I'll be posting updates on playoff info on my web page at http://www4.ncsu.edu/~rdpasteu/football Staying up late on the last night of the season putting together playoff bracketology stuff has become a tradition for me. Drew, just wondering what kind of chance East Lincoln has of being at home next week (if you can figure it out).
Other scores from over here:
Lincolnton 21 North Lincoln 7
South Point 21 Crest 14
Burns 37 Kings Mountain 31
Mount Pleasant 96 CATA (not exactly sure who that is) 0
Newton Conover 28 Bandys 14
AL Brown 45 Concord 25
Graham 27 Cummings 19
Avery 28 Mitchell 27
Brevard 51 East Henderson 21
Yeah, I heard Knotts was provoked by, of all things, an Indy fan. The JV lost last night (snapping a 73 game winning streak), and they went at it, with Knotts apparently shoving the other guy into a fence. If charges are pressed, this may not be the only game Knotts misses. 11/2/2007 11:26:15 PM |

By Nick Stevens
Posted: Nov. 2, 2007 Updated: Nov. 2 3:37 p.m.
CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Observer, who first broke this story on Thursday night, reported Friday afternoon that the Matthews Police Department would be asking prosecutors whether or not they had enough evidence to pursue criminal charges against Independence head football coach Tom Knotts.
Knotts would likely face a simple assault charge.
This stems from an altercation that took place following Independence's 15-14 Junior Varsity loss to Butler on Thursday night. According to the Observer, witnesses said a man began yelling and cursing at Knotts while he was talking to his team after the game.
A police report filed Friday indicates the man as being Isaac Avant Jr., 42, of Maple Glen, Pennsylvania.
The report says Knotts forced a chain link fence into Avant's face. It has been reported that Avant received medical treatment for minor injuries following the incident.
The decision from prosecutors will likely occur next week.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Media Relations Supervisor Cynthia Robbins told WRAL Friday morning that Knotts has been suspended with pay pending an investigation by CMS. The suspension includes teaching and coaching, and Knotts will not be allowed to attend Friday's game against Butler at Memorial Stadium.
"[The suspension] is standard for all employees with this type of allegation," said Robbins.
Robbins also confirmed that the Matthews Police Department is investigating the altercation, but could not comment on the actual investigation. "CMS will cooperate with the police in any way possible," said Robbins.
The Patriots' Junior Varsity team was on a winning streak of it's own. In fact, according to the same article in the Observer, they had won over 70 straight games.
The two teams play their highly anticipated varsity football game tonight at Memorial Stadium in Charlotte. Many people have predicted Butler to knock off Independence. If the Bulldogs do win, they will be the first North Carolina team to beat the Patriots in almost eight seasons.
Knotts has referred all questions to his lawyer.
"Since none of us were there, we don't know what happened. That's for the Matthews police to determine as far as anything criminal."" |

Quote : | "The Butler did it Bulldogs beat Patriots 21-20 at Memorial Stadium
Butler's victory against rival Independence -- a pulsating 21-20 affair that wasn't decided until the last 11 seconds Friday -- was redemption for more than the 53 Bulldogs in uniform.
All day, Butler coach Mike Newsome received good-luck text messages from former players.
"There were hundreds of players in the stands," quarterback Jacob Charest said, pointing to the delirious Memorial Stadium crowd. "And every one of them is as excited as we are."
With good reason.
Butler (9-2, 6-1 in Southwestern 4A) became the first N.C. team to beat Independence since 2000. The Patriots, who had their 109-game winning streak stopped in Ohio in September, played without coach Tom Knotts. He was suspended indefinitely after an altercation with a player's father after a junior-varsity game Thursday.
"That's an excuse," said assistant Bill Geiler, who filled in for Knotts. "The kids have to respond, and they have to play. I won't use that as an excuse."
Robert Blanton caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Charest in the corner of the end zone -- one-handed -- to tie the game at 20 with five minutes left. Kyle Searles' extra-point kick gave Butler a 21-20 lead.
Butler stopped two Independence fourth-down passes in the final four minutes. The last was Anthony Carrothers' incompletion at the Butler 15 with 11 seconds left.
Deep inside the swarm of hugs between players and fans, Blanton screamed "You see us? You see us?"
Folks across North Carolina will now, as the Bulldogs escaped the shadow of their rival seven miles away. Independence (9-2, 6-1) has won seven straight state titles, and eliminated Butler the past two seasons in the playoffs.
"This will move us up, as a program, to the next level," Newsome said.
Charest was 16-of-28 passing for 191 yards. Ten of the completions went to Jarrett Boykin, for 139 yards. Hawatha Bell ran for two touchdowns.
Butler's defense contained Independence most of the second half. Rod Chisholm ran for 126 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries, but had only 18 yards on 11 carries after halftime.
"The difference this year is we didn't think just about Independence all season," Charest said. "The whole game, everyone just kept saying `We're going to win.'

Leesville vs WFR in the second round? I know that is just the way it happens, but that's how it happend last year when all four cap-7 teams played right beside each other in the bracket. I find it hard to believe that Leesville is a #7 and that for the second year in a row there will most likely be a WFR vs LRHS match up in the second round. 11/4/2007 10:48:40 PM |

Ive got garner over jordan, millbrook, newbern meeting WFR over cary, SE Ral, Southview for the East Championship. Should be a great game. Newbern got lucky with the 4 draw, as I think they would have lost at Athens.
Independence at 10 is pretty shocking. Do we know if their coach will be there yet?
Richmond County and Garner, for a rematch of the 98-99 Championship game, with Garner finally winning again!! I played that year... We scored the first touchdown of the game, had our expt blocked, and then they blanked us for 30 some odd points the rest of the game. Sucked, but still awesome to have played in it.

Supposedly, random draws settle ties for seeding, but some of the potential early-round rematches (WFR-Leesville, Indy-Butler, etc.) make me suspicious.
Yes, Cary is in the playoffs at 5-6. Out of 93 teams in 4A, 64 go to the playoffs, so you do the math...
Hoggard is a very heavy favorite in the 4A East ... they're 2-3 touchdowns better than anyone else in that bracket. Had they gone 4AA (which they were very close to doing), they would have still been favored (slightly) over Garner, South View, WFR, etc. 11/5/2007 11:02:47 AM |

I'm surprised Eastern Randolph got a #4 seed with as bad as they've been this year (though they did finish strong). What's even funnier, though, is conference champ Ragsdale is only a #3 seed.
It's also ironic that ER landed Asheboro in the first round, a conference rival and the only team to beat them last year en route to the 3AA State Championship. ER wound up playing Asheboro in the playoffs last year (though in a later round) and getting sweet revenge for the regular season loss. We beat them this year though, so I hope we can do it in the playoffs also. I'll be at that game Friday night. 11/5/2007 11:19:43 AM |

fantastic,
i was just wondering what your thoughts on re-alignment are. I am pretty sure my former school is gonna drop to 2-A, but does the NCHSAA usually screw up alignment similar to the way they did the playoffs 11/6/2007 2:41:02 PM |
fantastic50 All American 568 Posts user info edit post |
Realignment is straight-forward enough that it's hard to foul it up. They take the enrollment of all the member schools (including about 20-25 that don't play football), put them in order, and split them into four groups of equal number, which become 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A classes. The only debatable issue is coming up with the enrollment numbers they use (because of school-within-a-school academies, schools without freshmen, etc.)
The real issue in football has been vast differences in enrollment between teams in the same playoff class; going to eight classifications (1A, 1AA, 2A, etc.) was overkill. The problem occurred because of a few very large schools (2500+) and a few very small schools (<350). My preference would be to go to six classifications for football only, with the 1A and 6A having half as many teams as the others.
The NCHSAA has already said that they will not go to 5A or 6A for the 2009-2013 realignment period, but might consider it for fall 2013. The football selection and seeding process, however, is likely to change as soon as next year; in the last week, I've talked via e-mail to a lot of coaches and a couple of athletic directors who are steaming mad over some of this year's football playoff messes. 11/6/2007 4:53:02 PM |

A Rocky Mount-Western Alamance final in the 3A East would amount to a state championship game, as those are by far the best two teams in that class.
Is anyone attending the Athens-Wakefield or Leesville-SER games willing to help me out by trading scores? The guy that gets scores for me will be following about 10-12 games by phone, and will be happy to pass along any of the ones we have that you want to know. 11/9/2007 8:57:55 AM |

I was at the Western Alamance game tonight and even though the score was 42-8, Western looked bad. If Rocky Mount has a good defense, then Western won't win that game. Western has put Rocky Mount out of the playoffs for the past 2 years, the first was when Rocky Mount had the 1 seed, so I am sure Rocky Mount will come to play. 11/9/2007 10:27:02 PM |

Aside from letting Asheboro run the opening drive back to the 6, which led to their only score, Eastern Randolph looked fairly solid. Not much passing but a solid running game. They need better play calling though if they want to defend their title. ER rolls 19-7.
The night was capped by more good news. Arch-rival Ragsdale lost to Parkland 28-24. So long suckers 11/9/2007 10:55:47 PM |
