God I hope so. With Johan in the NL East, we have got to have decent/steady pitching. Johan will win 20 - 25 games easily with the Mets.

I wonder if Andruw has put on 20 more lbs of fat?

The news about Hampton is good to hear, but we heard that same shit last year in Spring Training and he then he got hurt again.

I hear ya Javy.

I don't know who I prefer as a backup catcher. Brayan Pena or Javy Lopez?

Gee, let me think.

I really have my doubts about Javy making the team as a 36 year old catcher who hasn't played in two years.

Yeah, I know, I was just adding my two cents to the discussion of worthless backup catchers.

Strained right groin.

They need to do to him what they do to injured race horses that no longer can perform.

Take his ass out behind the barn and shoot him in the head to put it out of its misery.

I think he was talking about Hampton. Jurrjens has looked really good so far, I'd say he'll probably end up in the 4 spot with James/Reyes fighting for the fifth. I have no confidence that Hampton will actually make the rotation.

Also, it looks like Javy might actually make 25 man roster as McCann's backup. Pena is reportedly being shopped.

Maybe they could turn Hampton into a good reliever/closer if he can stay somewhat healthy.

I'm pumped up for this happening.

^ lol, yeah that is all Hampton needs. Instead of being healthy enough to play in 30 games lets get him in there for 65-70!!!

Well I thought it was obvious being a closer is a lot less than being a starter.

^ LOL my thoughts exactly. He can't go 4 innings every 5 days... what makes you think he'll be reliable to give you an inning every other night?

^^ maybe if you just want him to be a mop up long reliever it would work out. Get in there once every 6-8 days and give you some innings and nothing else. But if you really want him out of the pen it is even more stressful on your body than being a starter.

The constant getting loose, warming up, cooling down, warming up, pitching in games 4-5 times a week... for a guy with constant injury problems that is a nightmare.

I remember Billy Wagner said he threw over 90 pitches one night last year because the game was tied and he was warming up seemingly every inning... called it his first complete game ever.

Yeah, being a reliever is way easier on a guy whose body is shot. That's why John Smoltz is still closing games.

The NCSUjew guy is a retard and he's spouting nonsense all over TWW.

I'm guessing you're pumped because those guys suck!

I actually think Jurrjens could be solid, we just haven't seen enough of him to know. I'm always wary of young, highly acclaimed pitchers (re: Steve Avery, Kyle Davies, Horacio Ramirez). Reyes just kept getting better and better last year, I see no reason for him not to continue progressing this year. James, however, is garbage until he learns that you can't throw 89 mph fast balls at the letters all day and expect to get anyone out.

None of them are Johan Santana, but I like our rotation's slim, slim chances at carrying the team.

See ya Javy. You had the great contract walk year in the history of sports in 03.

Reyes was sent down today after compiling ~10 Era in 4 spring starts. Since Hampton looks to be our #4, Jurrens pretty much has a lock on the #5.

If Hampton gets hurt, I guess we'll go with a 4 man rotation because Reyes and James are both garbage right now.

Smoltz will start the season on the DL, but he'll probably only miss one start. Same neck and shoulder crap that bothered him most of last year.

AWESOME

I'm sure he'll stick around until mid-July or so. He'll suck but not Raul Mondesi/Craig Wilson suck.

Also, apparently Oakland is still on the hook for $5m of the $7m he's due this season. $2m isn't much, but it's enough to keep him on the roster for far too long.

We don't really have many minor league options that would look great at this point either. Schaeffer or Blanco could be ready to make the jump by July or August, though.

I follow the Royals pretty close because I live in Kansas. Kauffman stadium is a good place to see a game too (especially considering it's not one of the new retro stadiums).

The Royals always have young talent and fuck it up. Actually the Royals with Meche, Bannister, Greinke is not that horrible for a 1 through 3. Why the hell they gave Jose Guillen $texas is beyond me.

I know TWW is always up for a challenge.. so.. anyone know any websites that might accidentally be streaming the braves games? I know stations can broadcast but not stream but was wondering if somewhere it was slipping through.

My job must have our building wrapped in aluminum foil so our radios will not pick up anything worth a damn.

^^^ Just get MLB Gameday Audio. It's only $15 for the season. I've gotten it the past two years to listen to the Cubs and other interesting games (Like the nail in the coffin of the Mets meltdown last year).

Tom Verducci:

Quote :
"East: Go ahead, try to convince yourself the Mets are old and lack toughness. But how do you deny their talent? The Johan Santana trade alone moved them from a preseason third-place team into the vaunted "team to beat" designation. Their 3-4-5 starters, Oliver Perez, John Maine and Orlando Hernandez, miss bats better than anybody else's 3-4-5. I will say, however, I was struck this spring by how many baseball people love the Braves and question New York's character. "They don't pull together," said one GM of the Mets. "That's a problem when things go bad; they have players who go their own way."

I like the Phillies' everyday grinding approach, but that pitching is too thin."

I saw on the bottom line we made a mini trade... we gave up yates for someone

here it is

Quote :
"The Braves traded Yates to Pittsburgh for minor-league pitcher Todd Redmond, a 22-year-old right-hander who will begin the season in Class AA Mississippi's rotation."

Anyone going up to DC to see the opening series. Their new stadium looks really nice and its so much quicker than driving to the dirty dirty
