but i digress

i dont think this format 'war' will end until all the major studios pick a side, universal the only one being in the hd camp...

i have no interest in xbox, content, abilities, or add ons. nothing about it does it for me. (xbox+addon >= ps3 cost with nothing extra needed) and you've see how well major add on's have gone for companies like sega...

aren't blu-ray discs still outselling hd-dvd? aren't there more movies on blu-ray?"

ok so basically in a nut shell you said you aren't into gaming consoles...correct? You are just looking for a hi-def DVD player and that the PS3 is the clear winner here because you like Emo Spidey?

so im skipping all these pages..

i am thinking about buyin the 20GB PS3 that they had for sale for a short period of time. ebay has them for around $250-$300 (not sure how much time is left, i figured it would be around that price).

now my main function will be movies because we have a LCD HDTV blah blah... i figured i would "probably" use the gaming function of it also once in a while.

now IMO i think this is a fairly good deal. a blu ray player for around that price.

there was a deal for $240 HD-DVD and you get like 5 movies but i think its expired.

SO WHAT DO YOU NERDS THINK?

Sony Nerds: blu ray.
Xbox Nerds: HD DVD

Emo Spider-man nerds: Blu ray
Great movies: HD DVD

although i will probably get a PS3 just for Lord of War, Casino Royale etc...now that I have an HD DVD player...oh and GT5 in 2025.

^Holy shit, it's 2025 already? Because I could of sworn I was playing GT5 last night.....

^^Anyway, ignore the troll. You can still get the 5 free movies deal with either Blu-ray or HD DVD. I would look at the movies you have to choose from before making a decision. Also, I don't know if you could get that deal with buying a PS3 of Ebay, it's possible though.

Either way, a 20GB PS3 for that price would be a great deal, but if you're getting one for movies, I'd wait for for the 40GB PS3 with Spider-man 3 on November 2. They run cooler, quieter, consume less power and have WiFi built in. Plus you'll get the 5 free movies and whatever other bundle deals I'm sure various retailers will throw into the pot once it's released.

no you werent...that shits not even out yet. You are playing the ported version of Gran Turismo. All the car models are the same from the PS2 version but with higher res. texture maps. I thought every fanboi knew that?

Whether or not you think it's worth $400. You get a helluva of features and functionality for what you're paying, but it's up to you to decide if most of them matter to you.

I've never really wanted a PS3 at all, but I'll be dammed if this thread doesn't make me want to buy one, if for no other reason than to be as close to the exact opposite of Golovko as humanly possible.

^^So you get proven wrong, again, and you go back to trolling, again. I'm sensing a pattern here. Honestly, I got tired of owning you almost a week ago but I couldn't help myself watching you making one idiotic post after another. Please never buy a PS3, the collective IQ of it's userbase doesn't want that hit.

Can we stop? I'm not going to buy a damn console over an actual hi-fi device. No console supports DTS or has 6 discrete audio line outputs, or has precision tuned circuitry with quality parts (eg - true gold RCA jacks, etc.). These are some of the properties of an actual theater worthy device.

My purchase options were the scope of the thread. There's GOT to be another thread somewhere with this debate in it.

Dude, your question was answered on the first page of this thread. There is no uber hifi Blu-ray or HD DVD player yet. There isn't even one that has SACD support. In fact, the majority of the players for both formats suck. They have slow load times, all sorts of playing glitches, and are ugly as sin. The PS3 was mentioned because it happens to be the best HD player out right now, while simultaneously being the cheapest. It has the quickest load times, the least compatibility hitches, supports all the major audio formats, SACD, and is the most future proof. But, it's also big, ugly, and loud. These are your choices. If you don't like any of them, do what most people are doing and don't buy either format yet.

But sadly the PS3 makes Glovoko get super-gay and shit on threads.

Don't make the mistake of buying one or he'll get super-gay and shit on you too.

Why would you want Gold RCA jacks and what not on a HD video player? If you are all about getting top notch stuff, then you should have an HDMI receiver and all the data should be traveling via HDMI. Since its digital, gold and shit doesn't matter.

^well you can still get degredation from digital signals... with digital, your signal's either 100% good or 0% good at any given moment. with analogue, your signal can be 99% good, or 95% good, but you'll never get 100% good... it's like scratches on a cd (digital) vs. degredation on a casette.

but yes, it makes no sense to get gold rca jacks when you could get gold hdmi jacks. i've yet to see an hdmi cable with heads that weren't gold plated.

how about no because the PS3 still sucks as a gaming console which is why I'm getting it for an inexpensive blu-ray player. However, if by the time I get a blu-ray player the prices on stand alones drop lower i'll just get a stand alone.

Your opinion on the game titles released on the X-Box 360 does not belong in a thread with the subject "Buy Blue Ray or HDDVD?".

If it were, I would mention that Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction was released today, and I can't wait to play it tonight! But I wouldn't do that here.

Because the HDMI is for 1080p video. I run discrete lines for my 5.1. Those are the RCAs I was referring to.

I said

in other words, i dislike the Halo series, I get my fps rocks off on the computer. GoW and others are even less interesting to me.

all the sports games I play are on both, and I have ps2 games that I like to play, and having them look better is also nice.

so pretty much, there is nothing about a xbox I find compelling enough to buy one, much less a 360...

Did you mean cheapest Blu-Ray player? Because I thought I saw a stand-alone HD DVD player at Best Buy for like $250. Maybe I imagined it.
