From Idolator.com

This week's American Idol will be devoted to the songs of Dolly Parton, a theme that will allow for lots of Dolly facetime on the broadcast and Kristy Lee Cook saving herself for another week with a good-old-girl performance of a country song. While there are some song choices that seem to be gimmes (does anyone think that Syesha Mercado won't bring Whitney Houston's version of "I Will Always Love You" to the table?), others are more mysterious (what the heck is Michael Johns going to sing—"9 to 5"?). But one thing's for sure: If David Cook whips out a take on "Jolene," get ready for White Stripes fans far and wide to complain about one of their favorite covers being massacred by this guy—and for the Idol judges to wax rhapsodic about how "original" old Davey is because he draws inspiration from Chris Cornell and Incubus instead of Clive Davis and his proteges for the 10,000th time.

song list for tomorrow:

David Cook- You know I love you

Kristy Lee Cook- two doors down

Michael johns-Islands in the stream

Carly Smithson- Jolene

David Archuleta- Travelin thru

Ramiele Mulabuy- 9 to 5

Brooke White-Coat of many colors

Syesha Mercado- Eagle when she flies

Jason Castro- I will always love you

this is going to be the worst thing ever

you've got to be kidding. i'm calling april fools on this dolly parton shite. no way they would make them sing that crap

so i guess dolly is coming out with a new album. so theyre gonna make us listen to fast forward through that crap so she gets more record sales. awesome.

when the hell are they gonna let them sing more recent songs?

Archuleta is so much better than the rest of those people, it's honestly getting embarrassing. I will be shocked if he doesn't win it all.

Shrike, i didn't know you were so attracted to little kids.

The guy (David Archawhatever) doesn't really offer much of anything except the mickey mouse club renditions of ballads and stupid songs, and he's got the personality of Fred Savage in the first season of wonder years and he can't stop laughing and acting like a pre-pubescent dork. Don't see the draw.

Granted, I'm a cynical viewer and find favor with VERY few contestants now

Archuleta's just about without a doubt the best singer in the competition.

That said, he picks terrible songs and has absolutely no showmanship.

i'm pretty sure i don't like anyone. all i'm saying is my least favorite is definitely country girl. ugh. she sucks. they all suck. archawhatever is good i guess in a boy choir clay aiken kind of way. if you're into that. he's like, mom music.

they said this season was the one with the most talent....yikes. yet i can't stop watchingggggg.

My thoughts, because I know you want them:

Michael Johns: Sounded too much like Steven Tyler... It almost sounded like an impersonation... but that impersonation was REALLY good...

Syesha: She began as what I thought to be the front runner... has some serious ability... but she just lacks the "IT" factor... she's not whitney, though she tries... and she really doesn't bring anything special to the "power" voice style. She'll never be Aretha, or Whitney, or one of those Top 10 types... She's good, but in comparison, she pales.

Jason Castro: I like his style. He's a Jack Johnson type, and I like Jack Johnson. I wasn't crazy about his rendition of rainbow, though. It was a little cheesy to me.

Kristy Lee: By far the best she has sounded. She actually sounded like she has potential after experiencing just about every bottom 3 she could.

Carly: Way overperformed. She was yelling. I have lost interest completely in her.

David A: I'm bored. Same shit. He has nothing but the ballad and he's not going to sell records that way. But... he might win (See Clay Aiken).

Brooke: Rough night. I like her, but it was boring and drab.

BOTTOM THREE ACCORDING TO OEUVRE
Gets tough now... real talented people are going to be sent to the bottom 3...
Syesha
Carly
Brooke

Brooke is the first to be pronounced safe and Syesha is let go.

Ah shit, if that's any indication, he was terrible. By far the worst he has ever sounded.

But it won't put him in the bottom 3.

just american idol save the world. Last years was much more entertaining. I mean, besides seeing the gut-wrenching conditions that some of our fellow humans have to live, the show was a self-promotional failure. The celebrity acts were rarely good and rarely funny... They should've dedicated more time to the documentary portions.

wow that sucks, he was the most naturally talented 'not forcing it' singer they had. shows you how ridiculous this show is. hahaha, now im definitely tuning out as he was the only one to impress me more than once.

dream on sounded better after being booted to, imagine that.

yeah, definitely a surprise tonight.

I'm skeptical though. I suspect it was rigged. He'd never been in the bottom 3 and was one of the favorites to win it all by a lot of sources.

but hey, I doubt it's the first time (Daughtry). Whatever, I'll keep watching and it's not like my day revolves around who remains on American Idol.

No... When he sang Dream on and did the yelling Steven Tyler "DREAM ON DREAM ON" it became an imitation act. I am not surprised that people did not vote for this. When he sang it last night after getting booted, he omitted that and it was 1000x better. Had he done it that way to begin with, he would still be on the show.

BTW, I'm really surprised to hear the idols sing the contemporary Christian praise song at the beginning. It seems that this year has had a lot of religious influence, like when Dolly sang Jesus and Gravity. But Dolly is DOlly and the show producers would let her sing whatever she wanted. But having the producers actually decide on a contemporary Christian praise song is really impressive. It seems that Hollywood is so, not necessarily anti-Christian, but polar opposite of Christianity... meaning they aren't not Christian, but certainly don't go out of their way to endorse Christianity. In a land full of drugs, sex, and violence, and in the middle of one of the most popular tv series ever, we have an overtly Christian influence.

I think this is good. American Idol appeals to Americans across a broad spectrum and I assume that more people were welcomed by this influence than those who were turned off.

and RIP Michael Johns. I enjoyed him and thought he had the potential.

*michael johns

i'm not surprised to see him go really. i could never picture him as winning in the end, he just seemed a little old and out of place. he sang well, but it was never very memorable for me.

next, i call syesha or brooke

it is unfortunate that kristy lee cook's last couple performances have been decent, because she clearly needed to get sent home awhile ago. i definitely think she should be the next to go, followed by jason castro or carly.

i think david cook and david archuleta will be in the top 3, along with a female...my guess would be brooke. i like syesha a lot, but i doubt she makes the top 3 or 4

I read a cnn article bout dave cook and his bro (that sickly dude they showed at the end). His brother has brain cancer and it was a huge deal to get him out there. Explains those tears- great night to have an awesome performance

Ok. That was fucking incredible.

When I heard him singing it for Mariah, doing the "you'll always be my baby" with the guitar, I lol'd. I was like, are you fucking serious? This is going to be the corniest, hoakiest thing ever.

After 10 bars or so, I was like holy shit. He didn't touch the melody. And that was pretty incredible to take a bubble gum pop song, maintain the chorus melody that EVERYBODY knows and completely put a rock spin on it.

Fucking incredible.

This guy will [should] win.

David A is going to win, both Davids will be successful, more older people and young young people will buy David A's since it is pretty obvious what he will be good at......Rocker people will buy David C's. I doubt you will see many David C's fans at David A's concerts, and vic versa.

David A has the young girl vote and the older vote in his back pocket, he can forget the words......and still be the top vote getter. David C has the rocker crowd but just like Bo Bice, that will not be enough to win it at the end (not enough rocker fans watch Idol).....battle between the Davids and David A wins.

I personally don't buy the shit, but I realize that some of her stuff actually is good and will be sung by many people for decades.

I don't subscribe to it. But that doesn't mean it doesn't have merit... you know, because I don't go around thinking that everyone who doesn't like the same music as me must be deaf, dumb, and mute.

I'm about about Cook and that Irish chick.

that 17 year old kid is pure shit. Brooke is annoying. Syesha thinks she is a diva.

Kristy Lee Cook put that cursed country beatles song in my head and it hasn't left yet. She needs to be gone just because of that.
