Quote : | " There was an “issue” with Carl Edwards’ No. 99 Ford in the inspection following his victory in Sunday’s UAW-Dodge 500.
NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said the “lid on oil reservoir encasement – the oil tank box - was found off of the car.”
Poston said the car would be taken to NASCAR’s research and development center in Concord, N.C., for further checks. Determination of any penalties would be made following that.
Five teams in the Nationwide Series were each fined $15,000 and 25 points for not having covers securely fastened in the race at Daytona in that series. They also were each suspended for six races. " |

^ i doubt they would risk a 6 week suspension if it wouldn't help them go fast...
Quote : | " The cover on the oil reservoir box in Carl Edwards' car was off in post-race inspection. The tank itself sits inside the box. The cover is supposed to be secured with screws, but it was off. Not loose, off. There is an opening at the bottom through which air flows in from outside the car. Theoretically, having the lid off would allow that air to come up through the car and create additional downforce." |

I don't really like Roush Fenway nor Carl Edwards but what they did to punish him shows how crooked Nascar is.
Anyway, what time is qualifying today and what does the rain situation look like? 3/7/2008 12:03:35 PM |
stowaway All American 11770 Posts user info edit post |
edwards' penalty was perfectly just given the shit they pulled (literally). The team had a crew member pull the inner fender panel loose on the left rear to open up a roughly 3" gap in the panel to let air escape from the top of the oil cooler box. Edwards was never hit by another car or had any contact that would make it necessary to pull things loose inside the fenders. Toyota had shown they could pick up a couple hundred lbs of downforce by removing the cover and opening that panel to let the air escape.
I'm glad r.gordon got his points and cc back for that joke of a penalty they issued from Daytona. 3/7/2008 2:08:23 PM |
