ok...second girly question of the day...
i'm not a huge Vera Bradley fan...mostly because her stuff is ugly....but I did become a fan of Java Blue and have a duffle handbag (basically the only style I like), travel wallet, checkbook cover, card holder, and makeup bag in this pattern....all of these were gifts mind you and most came off ebay....
however...i have stumbled across the Mesa Red pattern which I really like...I have never seen it before because it's been discontinued...for a while apparently....
anyhow...I found this 2 piece set (large and small duffle) for $120....which would probably retail for somewhere closer to $200
my question is this...
How much stuff can these 2 bags hold?
i have one overnight bag which barely holds all my random shit and i really hate packing a small suitcase every time i leave home for more than a night or two

Oh girl!
I HATE Vera Bradley! I only get the stationary and office stuff, but I have wanted a duffle for a while. I just can't decide on what pattern!
THEY HOLD A TON!!! Especially the large duffle! I borrowed a friend's for a trip to the beach and was amazed! I am the girl that usually carries like 3-4 bags, and with the duffle I only had 2! I always have a separate make-up bag.
Anyways I think I will end up getting the black microfiber and get my initials on it! It's the only one that I think I can live with since there isn't a pattern.
My verdict: BUY THE BAGS!! Great price too! 5/9/2008 8:46:38 AM |

Wow, those are really ugly
As long as you don't pack a lot of useless shit when you're going on a short trip those should be fine.
Disclaimer: I'm known to pack a bookbag of clothes when going on a four day trip so I'm probably not the best person to gauge this sort of thing. 5/9/2008 8:47:25 AM |
LivinProof78 All American 49373 Posts user info edit post |
^^yeah...that's what I'm thinking too...there is nowhere else in the free world I will ever find a set like that for that price...and especially a pattern that I like...
I've always liked the big duffel bags....even when I sworn I would never own anything VB
I despise most of that shit...well nearly every single pattern and pretty much every purse...
but I like the big bags and the small organizer stuff....that sort of stuff looks cute in a quilted material...but it just makes every purse look like a damn diaper bag....
[Edited on May 9, 2008 at 8:52 AM. Reason : ^thats 1 of maybe 3 tops VB patterns I've ever seen that I actually like...ps I pack a bunch of shit] 5/9/2008 8:50:35 AM |

Vera has been around for at least 20 years now. Sorta like the Lily Pulitzer craze, she just became popular again.
Now I'm all on ebay trying to find my duffle haha. 5/9/2008 8:54:22 AM |

There's so many other companies out there that make duffel bags. If you're spending over $100 on one, you have to admit some of it has to do with fashion. Otherwise you'd be going to Goodwill and picking one up for 5 bucks. 5/9/2008 8:55:27 AM |
LivinProof78 All American 49373 Posts user info edit post |
i'm not spending $100 on one...
and i've got about 10 duffels at my house...and they've all come apart or just aren't big enough...
i'm just tired of buying cheap shit and then it falling all to pieces....granted i'm not going to spend $100 on one bag but there is something to be said for quality....so ebay is my best friend 5/9/2008 8:59:30 AM |
DivaBaby19 Davidbaby19 45208 Posts user info edit post |
Seriously $100 isn't shit when it comes to duffel bags if you want a really nice one. She's getting two for just $20 more.
Fashion doesn't come into play until you start spending over $300 on a duffel like my mom did for me. That's when you can start the talk!!! 5/9/2008 8:59:35 AM |
LivinProof78 All American 49373 Posts user info edit post |
yeah...i agree...
i mean...i can get an entire travel set on ebay (the 2 duffels, cosmetics bag, jewelry organizer, travel organizer bag) for less than $200....
you can't find that anywhere else....
I have a good 3-piece samsonite luggage set at home that came from Sam's Club for like $70....but i don't always need a full size suitcase or a small suitcase...and the bag isn't big enough to hold all the stuff I need for more than a day.... 5/9/2008 9:05:50 AM |
DivaBaby19 Davidbaby19 45208 Posts user info edit post |
Just buy it!!!
Sad they don't make the XL Duffel anymore! Now talk about some ROOM for some clothes!!! They are going for $Texas on ebay since they have been retired

^hell yeah...a friend of mine spent a week with me in denver and checked hers...she used to use it as her rodeo bag or something...it held everything

^^The duffels are ok for carryon, so I probably wouldn't check that. Granted I wouldn't use it if I were flying someplace. Mine would be for road trips and whatnot. Keep a bag packed in the trunk for random drunken nights. Stuff like that.
They do make the rolling luggage that's a little more sturdy for checking on planes, but I'd rather get something else when it comes to that! 5/9/2008 9:11:26 AM |

perhaps ive had too many bags beat to dogshit when checked
or left in the rain
to believe that the material used for vb bags would hold up

Well the one I want, since I can't decide on a pattern, is microfiber. It's more sturdy than the cotton and is also waterproof 5/9/2008 9:12:50 AM |

They're leather right? It will give if you walk in them for a little bit. Sometimes I bring my new shoes to work and put them on while I'm at my desk so they can start molding to my feet

Oh wait that's not an option. Is it like a rust red or more of a true red? You don't need anymore seer sucker so stop! That would go against your goals you have set. So my choice would be navy...they'd look really good on you, but since you want the red, do that

The city fit is going to be slim through the thighs (so if you have some thick thighs, I'd be weary). It's the lowest rise pant they make, but I imagine it sits right around where citizen low rise jeans sit. The best is the city-fit with a little stretch. Jcrew is notorious for cutting small, which means you kinda need that extra stretch if you don't want to go up a size. The trouser pants with the cuff are always great because they are usually cut really long! They don't usually make those in the short and regular (but they do have a tall version you can order).
They usually get those in the store if you have a chance to run and try them on, but I doubt you do since you're wanting to order
Hope that helps ya a little. 6/3/2008 10:00:24 AM |

they don't have the yellow color that I want in anything but that cuffed city-fit trouser which don't have the stretch....so I'm torn....

Get the yellow in the plain cotton and go up a size then. You can always take them to a tailor if it's close ya know? That's the best thing to do anyways.
Do you have a jcrew card? I don't know if you've ever mentioned it or not. You get free basic alterations in the store if you have one. Just take them in and tell them you ordered them. The sales associate will ask you to try them on and pin it for ya then send it to their tailor (I almost said our like I still work there). They will call ya when it's back in (He comes on Mon, Wed, and Fri).
