"Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that Tom Rowe will serve as an assistant coach for the team beginning with the 2008-09 season.

Current Hurricanes assistant coach Jeff Daniels will serve as head coach and general manager for Carolina’s top minor-league affiliate, the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Rutherford also announced that the Hurricanes have hired former player Robert Kron as the team’s new European scout."

Verrrrrry interesting. Should put some more pressure on Lavi in a way.

Rowe will be an NHL head coach sooner rather than later. If Lavi doesn't put things back together, Rowe will be next in line. If he does, Rowe will probably be off to take the reigns of another team.

Very interesting move for sure. There was speculation that there would be some sort of shakeup, with Daniels being a logical choice. This swap took me by complete surprise, though.

lol to Kron. There's a name I never thought I would hear again.

Going to purchase my 26 game pack this week. Somebody tell me where to sit. I already know what the answer is going to be, but I'll ask for it anyway. I'm gonna go for the upper corners, so that should make it even easier to give that answer.

AHL’s goaltender of the year in 2008 will join Carolina on two-year, one-way contract

RALEIGH, NC — Ron Francis, Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Development for the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed goaltender Michael Leighton to a two-year contract. The deal will pay Leighton $600,000 per season in 2008-09 and 2009-10.

I didn't realize that Hedican was gone too. When did that happen?

I dont think there was ever an official announcement about Hedican leaving, just Rutherford has mentioned it in passing.

I'd say at least as important is getting Timmay signed. And I'm all for bringing Babchuk back.

If those 2 are w/the team, we've got the following on d:
Corvo
Gleason
Babchuk
Wallin (who I hope to god won't be -17 this year or else he's dead to me)
Kaberle
Seidenberg (or Crunchy)
Conboy

There's rumors on the internets of trying to get Lilja, which I wouldn't be too keen on. Then again, the last D man we got from Detroit worked out pretty well for us.

did we sign Corvo?

I also heard an interview with 99.9 Sports Radio with Mike Commodore stating that he would like to come back if given the opportunity.

[Edited on June 11, 2008 at 12:01 PM. Reason : I believe he is a free agent]

"Leighton was heroic during Albany’s seven-game Calder Cup playoff series against Philadelphia, stopping 304 of 314 shots (.968 save percentage) and posting a 1.18 goals-against average and two shutouts. He made an AHL-record 98 saves during Game 5 against the Phantoms, as the two teams played the longest game in league history, a 3-2 Philadelphia win in five overtimes. He then helped Albany rebound by stopping all 40 shots he faced in a 1-0 overtime victory in Game 6, before the River Rats finally succumbed to the Phantoms in a 2-0 Game 7 loss at Philadelphia."

Those are some serious numbers

Oh my dear sweet lord in heaven...FUCK NO.

I guess I could deal with it if he wanted to come back on the cheap, but I won't miss his ridiculously stupid and ill-timed penalties any time soon.

Also, w00t for Leighton!

It might not be Commodore's fault, I think wearing #22 makes one pre-disposed to commiting dumb-fuck penalties.

he does spend a shit load of time at the saucer. but either way, as much as his afro is awesome, I'm fine w/o him on the team.

Take that money and get Liles.

btw, not that I want him on the team again, but I miss Danny Markov.

Canes and RBC Center extend lease until 2024

Quote :
"Rutherford said fans should notice a number of upgrades inside the arena by the beginning of next hockey season. Those improvements will include a new sound system, a renovated club-level restaurant, new flat screen televisions and the ability to pay for food at concession stands with credit cards."

Or you could, y'know, watch the signals.

The really complicated ones never get announced because Brian Hoyle is a fucktard who wouldn't know a match penalty from a match up his ass.

P.S. I haven't even missed a game yet and I'm already apprehensive about not having full season tix.

Not to be nit-picky, but the article I read said 2025 not 2024.

I won't miss Hedican, and I hate to say it... but I really won't miss Glen.

Gotta sign Gleason

J-M Liles is a good choice, and I still think getting Bieksa from Vancouver for Cole is a good idea.

Commy can come back for third-line D, and Babchuk can be his mate.

Which would set up something like this:

Corvo/Gleason
Kaberle/Bieksa
Babchuk/Commodore/Seidenberg/Tanabe/Wallin

[Edited on June 13, 2008 at 8:44 PM. Reason : Any combo on the third and then add a 7th man]

Would Babchuk and Commodore be the slowest, dumbest D-pairing in the league? Babs was starting to learn some solid positional stuff when he was paired with Wesley, but I'm super a couple of years in the Super League has derailed all that. I'm not sure Commodore even knows what the word "position" means.

I could live without Ruutu, although it would suck to have traded Ladd for nothing.

But Timmy must be signed. It's absolutely imperative.
