^^^maybe if you put that pic on every page people will start to believe what you're saying?

I couldn't stay up for Biden's speech last night (i'll have to find it online somewhere), but I'll be sure to stay up tonight.

^ You got it.

And maybe you're right. That giant jukebox-looking stage at the DNC was, in fact, perfectly understated--as will be the Acropolis-style columns we will be graced with tonight in the "Temple of Obama." Don't be late for worship--and don't forget your toga!

Yeah, this whole Jesus-complex thing Obama is going through is just rediculous now.

Hillary calling off the roll call and nominating Obama was the most cheesey and predictable of things.

And Obama making that "surprise" appearance last night was perhaps the least surprising thing of all. Biden was walking around on stage for over a minute by himself under conditions where normally he would be immediately swarmed by family members. The whole thing was, well, surprisingly unsurprising.

This convention and the Obama Campeign have certainly shown a flaire for the dramatic. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but when you continuosly do it over and over, it gets borring and downright annoying. The Ted Kennedy thing was great, I liked it, thought it was a strong way to start the covention. But as the week goes on, this strategy quickly loses its effectiveness.

Yawn. Hypocritical attempts to continue the meme about Obama being too arrogant and celebrity. It's like weak cheese, you can see through it. This is the yammery shit that I hate about politics, it has absolutely nothing to do with nothing.

You think an elaborate backdrop is only an Obama thing? Look again...

Actually it's roughly on the same scale, it's just that in a football field that set looks a little bigger and naturally has to be. Not to mention those ends are only to house video screens so people can see. It's a backdrop my god dude, is that what you have to go on?

This is just another one of those meme pushing manufactured fake righteous indignation outrages that pour from the GOP. It's really laughable..like a fat kid in the back of the room flicking boogers.

(1) The stadium is definitely not on the same scale. FYI.

And (2) The Boston Globe, Slate, The Washington Post, Reuters, ABC News, and the hundreds of other media outlets reporting on the story at issue are in the GOP now? You have to be one of the most gullible fuckers to come down the pike in a while, you know that?

There, alone at the center of Colorado's biggest stadium, he will stare out at 2,000 lawn chairs pressed toward the stage, 80,000 people crammed into three levels of seats and 450 stadium spotlights pointed directly at him."

Greek Tragedy?
August 27, 2008 4:10 PM

Quote :
"1:50 pm MT: From ABC News' Rick Klein, author of The Note: So all the buzz today was supposed to be about two big Wednesday speeches -- Bill Clinton’s and Joe Biden.

Why, then, is everyone in Denver talking about stagecraft?

It’s simple: Reporters got their first glimpse of the stage where Barack Obama will deliver his speech tomorrow night at Invesco Field. Reuters described the set as similar to a 'Greek temple.'

Thus a legend -- not the good kind -- was born.

Said one Democrat: 'This is a disaster of mythical proportions.' Said another: 'It's not enough that he wants to be president -- he wants to be Zeus.' Said the first: 'Will he send down thunderbolts from the mountain?'

Those are the Democrats -- though assuredly not Obama partisans."

Now, run back to the Daily Kos or MoveOn or wherever you get your talking points. Hurry!

Tonight will be Obama's best opportunity to play up his best strength..doing dramatic readings off the teleprompter.

Peggy Noonan comments on "The Speech"....

Quote :
"Everyone can define what can go wrong, and no one can quite define what "great move" would look like.

It has every possibility of looking like a Nuremberg rally; it has too many variables to guarantee a good tv picture; the set, the Athenian columns, looks hokey; big crowds can get in the way of subtle oratory.

My own added thought is that speeches are delicate; they're words in the air, and when you've got a ceiling the words can sort of go up to that ceiling and come back down again. But words said into an open air stadium…can just get lost in echoes, and misheard phrases.

People working the technical end of the event are talking about poor coordination, unclear planning, and a Democratic National Committee that just doesn't seem capable of decisive and sophisticated thinking. So: this all does seem very much a gamble"

^^no no, that is too logical and doesn't flow with the whole 'Obama wants to be Zeus' theme. Would McCain even be able to fill up a football stadium? Thats the question.

You are such a freaking nutjob hooksaw it's unbelievable. I think your entire existence is defined by slinging mud on the democratic party.

It's supposed to look like the Lincoln Memorial because it is tribute to the 45 year anniversary MLK 'I have a dream speech'. Since it's a pretty huge land breaking moment for a black person to be nominated for president that is the inspiration.

Nearly all of freaking America's administration buildings have Greek styled columns you jackass. What the hell does that matter? They parrot this shit out there to stir up shit.

you're right. They should keep it in a small, highly exclusive arena where nobody except the highest paying donors are allowed. Who care if there are 87,500 other people who are able and willing to go watch him speak? Just let them watch it at home, fucking bottom-dwelling assholes

You can hear the police telling people to back up prior to the cop pushing the woman down. Every one seems to be complying other than the woman who got pushed who is standing in front of the cop and appears to be arguing with him. It's impossible to tell why she was arrested after that.

That said, the cop's response seemed overly aggressive and violent, although it is impossible to tell what she said or did prior to that. If she was refusing to comply, why not calmly arrest her from the beginning instead of jacking her up like that and then arresting her later?

It is impossible to know everything that happened judging by the video. But I could certainly see that officer being charged with police brutality.

Police Brutality? Really? He shoved her, once.

Maybe it wasn't the most perfect thing to do, but if she was refusing to back up, being confrontational, etc.. Well, what did she expect? Now if he struck her repeatedly on the ground, or something, sure. One hard knock to the chest, meh. Maybe a reprimand or something.

I wasn't saying I think he should be charged, personnally I don't. I'm just saying I can see it happening given the setting and with people being as sensitive as they are about this stuff, and the city not wanting to look bad.

Surprisingly hawkish talk, both on "defending Israel", "stopping Iran", and "countering Russian aggression". Not that I expected a different stand from him per say, but its not the kind of topic I would have expected him to bring up.

Also funny how surprisingly quiet the normally raucous crowd was at those lines.

Fairly typical liberal speech. I didn't get the sense he was reaching out to independents but more of a speech to spark up the party faithful.

I look forward more to the debates..to see him face tough specific questions about his socialist views...and tax and spend designs.

His laundry list of things he was promising to accomplish got comical after a while. I was waiting for him to state he was going to get the Earth spinning in the opposite direction.

With every event I see featuring Obama, he becomes more and more of a typical democrat politician.

The fire-works were cool. George Soros et al must've spent a bundle.
