I think to beat ECU we will have to score on our first drive. Not normally fair to say, but under our circumstances I do believe that it is a must. If I was Skip, I would put the ball in our hands first, because he knows that he can score, but can we?

I think this game will be fairly close until about mid way through the 3rd Q. The defense will keep us in it until they wear out again. I am thinking 10-0 at the half, 17-0 at the end of 3, and 30-0 as a final score.

There is no way we score a TD. ECU is not going to make the same mistakes it made against Tulane and thus we have no chance to put up 7. Shitkowski can't make a FG outside of 25 yards so we basically have no chance to score.

EZU isn't going to come in here and put up fucking 30 points. Our D is better than WVU's and I think we're comparable to VT at least first string (they lost a lot).

If they put up 30, it means we turned the ball over a LOT. I still think we lose this game, but its going to be close. Probably 17-10, with someone on our team turning the ball over on a potential game tying drive at the end.

It's about the time of the year that TOB and the offense have evaluated themselves, know what we can do and what we can't. I expect to see some adjustments and some offensive production. Not sure if it will be enough.

So Toney Baker is done for the season, Anthony Hill is out for Saturday (what's going on here? it seems like a strained pectoral muscle would heal fairly quickly) but Eugene is probable for Saturday which could give our offense a much needed boost as he proved a capable receiver last year. The problem there is that ECU, in football and to an extent in baseball, has no little respect for program funding. With the Pirates, it's all about respect. That's the hole card they play best and regularly use to trump big game. Lou Holtz, during his stint at State in the early '70s, said of the then still-young ECU rivalry: "Against those guys, it's not so much about X's and O's. It's about fire in the belly." Little has changed on that front. That’s really what State fans will want to see Saturday — the flame of a rivalry that extends beyond the records of the two teams. If O’Brien can strike that match again — as he did last season in Greenville — he won't hear a lot of howling for a while. "
