Bobby Jindal will be an excellent candidate for the GOP. I also think the GOP should re-enlist Sarah Palin, because she shows real promise as well. The famous grassroots campaign of Obama can easily be transplanted to the GOP and provide the same results. Yes, all excellent choices and deductions indeed.

now... looking at this map... if you favor social freedom more than economic freedom a libertarian would vote dem... and the opposite would be repub

also note that dem and repub are NOT SOCIALIST AND FACIST!
stop being so damned dramatic.

I see nothing wrong with castrating sex offenders. It would probably make other would-be-sex-offenders think twice before their actions. Not to mention will probably free up the jails because they will less likely commit it again with no sex drive or aggression from testosterone.

When i was growing up i had many things taken away from me for not using them responsibly

Luckily my junk wasn't one of them... but i support the idea.

As someone said earlier, should we cut the hands off someone who strangled someone else?

Way to violate human rights! Would you castrate that seventeen year old kid who got head from his fifteen year old girlfriend?

I think they're talking about child rapists, and it is probably evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

It's the same reason all murderers don't get the death penalty.

Granted, but I think the societal definition of "sex offender" and "child rapist" can get pretty vague.

Sure, and it's the same reason that a person convicted of involuntary manslaughter doesn't receive the same sentence as someone convicted for 1st degree murder, even though they've both technically killed someone.

Glad to see the discussion going already in 2008 about what you disagree with Bobby Jindal. He will be in IOWA in 15 days. Huckabee will be there in 14....fact of the matter is you already know who they are now and its 4 years until we see if the president is a socialist or not.

Despite my result on this test, I am a registered Democrat & strongly identify as such. In so far as I have any libertarian leanings it would be of this variety I suppose:

Quote :
"Civil libertarianism is a strain of political thought that supports civil liberties, or who emphasizes the supremacy of individual rights and personal freedoms over and against any kind of authority (such as a state, a corporation, social norms imposed through peer pressure, etc).[1] Civil libertarianism is not a complete ideology; rather, it is merely a collection of views on the specific issues of civil liberties and civil rights. Because of this, a civil libertarian outlook is compatible with many other political philosophies, and civil libertarianism is found on both the right and left of modern politics.[2]

The primary concern of the civil libertarian is the relationship of the government to the individual. The civil libertarian seeks, in theory, to restrict this relationship to an absolute minimum in which the state can function and provide basic services and securities without excessively interfering in the lives of its citizens. One key cause of civil libertarianism is upholding free speech. Specifically, civil libertarians oppose bans on pornography, hate speech, and obscenity. Although they may or may not personally condone behaviors associated with these issues, civil libertarians hold that the advantages of unfettered public discourse outweigh all disadvantages.

Other civil libertarian positions include support for at least partial legalization of illicit substances (marijuana, etc.), a strong demarcation between religion and politics, and, more recently, support for gay marriage. The most prominent civil libertarian organization in the United States today is the American Civil Liberties Union.

In the past twenty years, with the advent of personal computers, the internet, email, cellular phones, and other information technology advances, a subset of civil libertarianism has arisen that focuses on protecting individuals’ digital rights and privacy. The organization most closely affiliated with this sort of civil libertarianism is the Electronic Frontier Foundation."

I have family members in Charlotte & Pittsburgh involved & employed with the ACLU, & I chat occasionally with the executive director of the North Carolina branch of the ACLU. This brand of libertarianism is something that could appeal to me, except for most libertarians (BJ Lawson for example) overlap too much with republicans & are anti-gay marriage. Some are anti-marriage altogether, but since they will never effectively act on that position it is a pretty useless stance to take.

--------------
When I was working early voting sites for some democrats, this libertarian had driven down to NC to work early voting sites giving out info on libertarians. This friendly chap who refers to himself as an enemy of the state apparently hasn't paid taxes in sometime & believes everyone is being morally irresponsible if they are paying. We got to hang out at the same early voting sites a number of times.

It even has inspiring music & lots of fun language.

"The last full measure of devotion"
"Embrace defiance, rebellion, & resistance"
"false prophets"
"rise up to defeat them"
"revolution"
"the passion of our hearts will be raised with our fists"
---

And he was in NC to support an anti-gay marriage, anti-choice candidate for congress... who also opposes federal funding for education & research in the research triangle. And this is where the libertarian movement loses any chance of having me as a part of it.

Hint: They will be.... unless of course Ron Paul or a Libertarian manage to make a successful run.

the problem with chemical castration is that all the person would have to do is go to the doctor, complain about low sexual libido, and get a prescription for testosterone. Once he's on hormone replacement therapy, he's perfectly capable of acting out the sick thoughts that are originating from his brain.

you people are so fucking obtuse

you actually think that it is about the sex? sex offenders are psychologically damaged, so a chemical castration will do nothing, only intense psychotherapy in a confined environment will help

and even then, they still may need to stay in prison

^And even then, castration falls well within the bounds of "cruel and unusual".

if chemical castration actually worked, it wouldn't be any more cruel and unusual than requiring a repeat drug offender to go through rehab.
