Last year a co-worker of mine wanted to quit but also wanted to get unemployment, so she just slacked off and did a shitty job until they finally fired her. I hope she's doing OK. I think she was better than this place.

I wish video resumes became popular. I think I'd get a job faster if they knew how pretty I was.

if you get fired for any reason other than lack of work you're not getting shit from the government.

Does anybody here work at RTI or Schering Plough? I have one contract job for a jr. indexer (thats what its called) at Schering Plough that I would like to get but keeps being put off.
I also found a research assistant position at RTI. I had a phone interview with HR the other day. They sent me an application package. I've already sent that back. I'm just waiting to hear back for an interview.

I used to work for Schering-Plough. What is a jr. indexer? Nevermind, it makes sense.

^ did you like it there? Thats the name of the position. I think it involves verifing and coding documents for clinical trials.
I got an interview next week there. They are interviewing 13 people but only bringing on 11 contractors.

Schering plough is a good company to work for, but like all companies it can be somewhat annoying. Lots of bureaucracy.
Good strong company, though.

I hope RTI treats you better than they did me when I interviewed with them: they kept dragging it out so that it was about two months after I interviewed (I had a phone interview, interview with about 8 people, then went to lunch with three of them again) that they finally said "no." That was basically ridiculous.

Graduated in December, unemployed. And it sucks when you live in NC and most jobs open right now are in NY. If you're not in NY, companies pretty much ignore your resume. Fuck.

^^^yeah, but if they were to say "hey, can you come interview tomorrow?" and/or want you to start asap, it takes time to find a place up there. i guess i just worry that lieing about something like that, is that a big deal to a company?

Tell them you ARE moving to the area and will be there on XX day and need long term employment. You should get some hits.

While on unemployment pay, is there something they required you to do?

^I bet it's because there's no state income tax in TN.

You have to prove that you're actively seeking employment. Like proof of applications or interviews. You have to pursue 2 different employers on two different days of the week and keep a log of all your searches and applications.

mhum.... and i'm sure they really check the 500,000 people who are unemployed now.

btw, I heard on the radio today that the NC ESC will have to ask for federal aide maybe as soon as next week. They said the ESC pays out something like $170M a week (or maybe a month?), and as of yesterday, they only have $16M.

you can go to the esc website and type in your name and social and get an approximate of what your unemployment would be

^^^ how much you get per week depends on how much you make/made with your normal job. There is a predefined upper limit on the total amount you can get - something like $12000. Then, depending on how much you made, they divvy that $12k into a certain number of weeks. If you qualify for the max amount, you will get about $490/week for 26 weeks. Otherwise, you will get a lower amount, but will get it for longer.

Plus, they take taxes out of the payments (stupid, right?) so it goes down to just over $400.

use this link to show how much and for how long you can get Unemployment

IOW, they didn't like you, wanted to keep looking until they found someone good, but didn't want to get rid of fallback choices.
