It's just as much an RPG as the first Mass Effect, without the cumbersome and retarded inventory/loot system (really, this gun maker makes 10 different types of the same gun? I mean, really?!).
Played it for about 9 straight hours so far

I heard a rumor that you can select a new weapons class during the main mission within the game. Is this true? If so I may keep my infiltrator and get the shotgun this way. 1/27/2010 1:03:27 PM |

I liked all the customization options from ME1 that are absent from this game. Just four places to put skill points is pretty weak.
And am I crazy, or is there no place to toggle Sheppard's helmet on and off when he's walking around planets and talking to people? 1/27/2010 5:45:19 PM |

Yep. I was about 20 hours in and I was given the opportunity to choose a specialization which allowed me to pick which weapon I wanted to add. I'm not sure what triggered it to be honest though.1/27/2010 10:34:36 PM |

So...people out there with pre-order armors (blood dragon, collectors, terminus) do you actually use these?
Personally I like the N7 armor (and customizations) so much I just use that instead. I like being able to see my characters face (especially renegade so far) and not being able to turn off those helmets annoys me a bit.
Also, Collector rifle FTW 1/28/2010 11:11:45 AM |
Slave Famous Become Wrath 34079 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah I got a big problem with the helmets...the armor is cool but I feel like goddamn Boba Fett with my helmet on all the time
So I'm mainly just using the default N7 suit since I like to see my grill whenever I tell someone to shut the hell up 1/28/2010 11:14:18 AM |
ThePeter TWW CHAMPION 37709 Posts user info edit post |
I got the Terminus armor and am using it. I feel like the bonuses of the N7 are better though, since I don't know what "+10% Storm" and the other bonus it gives are.
I remade my character's face, but it doesn't match the voice at all and it annoys the shit out of me. I probably should have just restarted the game, but I didn't feel like going through the 15 minutes or w/e of initial cutscenes that you can't skip. Now I'm like 2 hours in so I definitely can't restart so the constant helmet action kinda helps that.
I haven't used the blackhole gun yet though.
What do you people think of the new planetary exploration/scanning thing? Seems like a pointless minigame of how efficiently you can scan a planet. I've just been doing a grid where I pull the trigger to do a very short scan and look for any spikes on the radar. Then I move the circle 1 space down and pull the trigger again. It takes awhile, but I figure the research rewards should be good.
Kinda like this, where it takes 5 circles to go from the north pole to the south pole of any given planet.
OOOOOOO OOOOOOO OOOOOOO OOOOOOO OOOOOOO

The scanning, I'll agree, is a little tedious, but at least you're working towards something with it this time around rather than want to throw your controller at the TV when the MAKO couldn't make it up that last hill to get the pointless ore in ME1.
I love the new hacking and bypass systems...dont have to have an engineer in my party anymore 1/28/2010 11:52:55 AM |
AndyMac All American 31922 Posts user info edit post |
I don't even bother scanning a planet unless it's either rich or has an anomaly. The scanning upgrade makes it go much quicker. 1/28/2010 12:03:33 PM |

I used the black hole gun a few times and found it really useful for clearing out large spaces with heavy cover quickly. I use the Terminus armor for now, but once I get enough upgrades for the N7, I'm going to switch back (I agree with the annoyance of not being able to see Shepherd's face). I also enjoy the hacking a lot more this time around.
I dunno, I've gone through the Archangel and Doctor story lines so far, and while I really like the game so far, the story and dialogue does feel a little thinner than the first Mass Effect. Not as emersive, I suppose. Still a lot of fun thus far... costing me a lot of sleep. 1/28/2010 12:16:48 PM |

Just Finished and it was a great game. I dunno about game of the year, but great. Only gripes I had were the ones already mentioned. Dialogue seems thinner, and personally I wish character power and such were a little more diverse. 1/28/2010 5:02:37 PM |

Damn, what did you skip all the side missions or something? I got the game 3 days before it came out in stores and I've been playing it more per day than I care to admit and I haven't even started the main "push" yet.
BTW, everyone should make sure to probe Uranus. Shit's hilarious. 1/28/2010 5:28:55 PM |

I wish I had bought ME1 instead of renting it through Gamefly...I mean I kept it long enough to beat it with 2 different classes, and I made some different storyline choices on each one so I'll have a couple nice saves to import, but I'd like to be able to pop it in and screw around with it a little to get ready for ME2
also I was a fucking champ driving that Mako...probably because you have to drive it so fucking much, but I was a damn master at knowing which angles to take and which hills weren't passable 1/28/2010 6:27:05 PM |

Quote : | "There have been some CRAZY rumors floating around about EA seeking to sign a deal with MTV's Jersey Shore cast in an effort to put them in some future DLC.
The premise centers around the Jersey Shore cast being pretty upset over the fact that Flux Nightclub was not re-built after Saren's attack on the Citadel. They feel that Afterlife and Dark Star Lounge and don't provide the fist pumping and partying atmosphere that the original Flux nightclub had. Plus Flux had gambling just like Atlantic City!
They call in the help of Shepard and the DLC starts off from there.
Supposedly there is a love triangle between Shepard and Sammi which causes Ronnie to get in a rumble with Shepard.
Shepard helps locate the latest DJ equipment so Paulie D can spin his fist pumping beats.
Shepard even kicks the a$$ of some Turian that punches Snookie in the face.
Another mission supposedly involves Sheppard stopping a pink eye outbreak in the Citadel curtosey of Vinnie.
The Situation and J-Wow are also set to have missions and Shepard will also search the galaxy for the missing Angelina.
All this action for a reported 800MS! Should be sweet! Can't wait to see if Flux is rebuilt!" |
