87-76 Final. 6-1 start best in the Sidney Lowe era. Good to at least see that we can finish out games when a team makes a big, late run.

We lead by 2 with a minute left. ECU ball.
ECU comes down and hits a 3. ECU by 1. State ball.
State comes down and goes inside to McCauley. He misses. ECU rebound.
We immediately foul. ECU hits both free throws. ECU by 3.
We bring the ball down, looking for Ferguson to hit the 3. He's guarded.
We look to Costner. He's guarded.
Halfway between the top of the key and the corner, Javi finds an open Dennis Horner.
8 seconds left.
Horner pump-fakes several times, with no one near him, until the clock expires.

Pretty much. He was on top of Javi near the end and Javi just popped him in the face. It was a reaction to the physicality and also the cause of the cut on his arm which he had to leave the game for.12/17/2008 9:47:59 PM |

Usually if you get your teeth knocked there is a noticeable amount of blood and you'd come out of the game. Young stayed in the game. I heard Javi had some blood on his arm from a cut and that Young had some blood on his lip. I didn't hear anything about him losing teeth though. 12/17/2008 9:49:20 PM |

Pack looked good tonight, some good intensity at times, can work on being more consistent at that. Our offense actually looked the most focused and directed that it has all season to me. We can still use some work on defense of course.
Costner & McCauley getting over 1/2 our points FTW. the big men were beasts tonight. No reason we shouldn't be directing our offense through them.
Degand driving to the basket with the quickness is definitely a good sign. Once he works on his finishing shot a bit more we might have a viable threat there.... and can maybe give us a player who can create his own shot...
def a good win for the Pack...lets pound Lipscomb and get ready for Marquette.

Pretty sure he lost a tooth, or part of one, Javi swung his body with elbows out holding the ball and caught the dude's face, and something big and white flew out. I thought it was just a bunch of spit like when some boxer gets knocked out, but the dude kept grabbing at his tooth and the refs did point and pick something up off the floor where it happened.
Honestly the dude's head didn't even fly back, I think Javi caught just the guys tooth, and it did cut his elbow up.
I'm surprised the dude didn't come out immediately.

Well I hope he can either get it put back in or get a nice fake one put in, and that ECU covers it. Don't student athletes get free medical/dental coverage by the school? That's what happens when you play a game that doesn't have headgear and you've got elbows flying. When I played hockey although I had a full shield on my helmet I still had a mouth guard in case I got jarred and chipped a tooth. I know Curry and some other players wear mouth guards. Costner also got smacked in the face and there was no foul fwiw.

Our announcers didn't say shit about him getting his teeth knocked out. More likely some blood from his lip. But the video feed didn't show him getting medical attention either and he was back in the game not 2 minutes later.
On the officiating, I thought there were a couple bad calls...one where costner got hit with no call, one where Thomas got smacked and no call, and on the next posession for ECU they call a touch foul on Ferg at the top of the key. Also the other way, they let McCauley mug a guy like he was Hansbrough on the perimeter that led to a turnover. I loled...it was a foul...no call. Other than that, it really wasn't bad, they let them play, we pounded the ball inside a LOT in the second half, and the refs certianly didnt' give the game to State.
BTW, even with the starters out, we should have kept a decent lead but we couldn't hit free throws. Off the top of my head I can think of Smith missing at least 2, maybe 3, Degand missing one, ferg missing one, and mccauley missing one. It doesn't sound too bad but it all happened within a 4 minute span, and we didn't hit 2 in a row at the line during that stretch...all while ECU was pushing tempo and IMO taking advantage of Degand's inability to stick on the ball. We also had a stretch of 2 posessions with quick shots and a few others with turnovers that were forced passes with time on the shot clock.
overall though, it was a pretty good game. We executed well, we played decent defense, we just didn't rebound particularly well and we turned it over. The rebounding was somewhat due to wierd bounces cause ECU was shooting long shots the entire second half.

Hmmm, don't know about that. I think we need these games this season (and I'm hoping we don't get embarrassed). We're not great, but looks like we might be improving. We need some time for guys to get right, get some wins, get some confidence-builders. And we needed revenge. Would you rather be 3-4 right now?

i really think costner is just screwed in the eyes of our fan base now. he goes out tonight and scores 24 pts to go along with 17 boards. 17!! it's not enough though because he also made some errors. heaven forbid if he doesnt have a perfect game. geez people, wake up! costner is playing better this season and people still wanna cry over every mistake he makes. it's basketball! you will make a mistake if u step on the floor enough times. but how can you try to diminish game like costner had tonight into a bad performance? 7 turnovers...ridiculous. I didn't say he didn't do good overall, but seriously. EVERYTIME I looked it's like he was missing a jumper or a 3 and turning it over. He didn't really start rebounding til the 2nd half it seemed. Dah well. I'll take the 17 rebounds...FINALLY.
Oh and what's really shitty is how the ECU fans were chanting "Let's Go Pirates!" like EVERY couple of minutes and were REALLY loud. Our fans DID NOTHING...NOTHING to stop it or drown it out.
Must I mention too....Javi's *more than* half-court shot at the buzzer was IMPRESSIVE. I knew once it left his hands it was gonna go in I was behind the goal that he shot it at....on point.
