Megs is supposed to be a tank or a gun. Period. That jet thing from the first movie was just bad.

Just got back from the imax. It was ok. If it had been shorter it would have been better. The robot fight scenes were waaay better and OP was a bad ass this time around.

It had every single Michael Bay cliche that we've come to all know and love.

I mean make no mistake. This is 100% designed to pack theaters and make a ton of money. Now I know some of you are quick to compare it to other action movies like Iron Man or The Dark Knight. The reason we all like Iron Man so much is because Tony Stark is a great character. So is Batman (they're very similar characters to be sure). But when we get to Transformers I hate to break it to you, but we're talking about robots designed to sell toys. You aren't going to get deep characters here. If you argued that Transformers shouldn't be turned into a movie because of this, then you might have a point. But if a Transformers movie is going to be made I dont see how you can do better than Michael Bay's adaptation.

I mean we can look at it from the other side. There are plenty of good, well established franchises that have been completely fucked by shit directors or bad writing. Quantum of Solace or Kingdom of the Crystal Skull being two recent examples. Paramount went to Michael Bay and said "hey, take these action figures and make a kickass explosion filed joyride thats going to make us $$". And he went and delivered exactly that.

Quantum of Solace should be taught as a textbook example of the exact wrong way to shoot a film. Here you have a well established, well received character who has the potential to reach a large audience. The story was decent and the written action scenes would have probably been enjoyable if you could see any of it. For as much as Michael Bay caught shit for the fights in transformers 1 (rightly deserved in some cases) Quantum of Solace fails completely at every single step. Its unwatchable bad. Which is really a shame considering how damned good Casino Royale was.

The short of it is, Michael Bay created whats probably the best Transformers movie possible. He does an excellent job at mindless action You can argue all you want against the genre of mindless action, but for every Michael Bay movie theres a dozen half assed "deep" action movies. Iron Man, The Dark Knight, and Casino Royale are the exceptions, not the rule.

there are good action movies and there are bad action movies.

bad action movies can be good if they are self-aware and not self-important.

Exactly. Transformers makes no claim to being high art. Its up front that this is going to be mindless action with tons of cliches and explosions and almost racism, but you'll probably enjoy it if you dont take it too seriously.

When I defend Michael Bay I'm not doing so because i think his films are the pinacle of what is possible, I do it because I think he does a very good job of producing a specific type of film with a significant audience. If you want to attack him for not stepping out of his comfort zone and doing something else, then thats fair. But attacking transformers (again this is a movie about giant robots fighting each other in order to sell toys) for lacking depth is a bit silly.

there are mindless action silly movies that are good (i'm not saying they are good because they are "deep" or whatever, they are good because they do the mindless action/silliness well).

Transformers is not this.

having a silly concept about toy-based alien robots does not give a pass to be shitty in the way that it is shitty. Again, there's a difference between Army of Darkness/crank/running scared fun and Pathfinder/speed 2/matrix 2 shitty.

I agreen with bweez's point, but maybe not his movie choice.

You can make a crazy action movie with absolutely no plot and make it enjoyable.

See Quantum of Solace(sp?), 300.

An example of a movie that follows transformers 2 is Punisher: Warzone. Worst, Movie, Ever

Quantum of Solace had the worst fight scenes and bad guy ever, plus it was like a Bond movie made by committee

i can't see Punisher: Warzone being any less true to the Punisher than the first two, but I have no desire to see it

i still don't see how people are not comprehending the fanbase of Transformers 2, it wears it's heart on it's goddamn robosleeve; it is what it is - vehicles turning into giant robots and beating the shit out of each other, explosions, and megan fox struggling valiantly not to slip out of a low-cut blouse while running around in front of said explosions

those are the criteria i went in there with and damnit if i didn't check off every goddamn box i had

also, sam's mom at college was money

jesus, Quantum of Solace is just terrible. "I will make you pay for your water supply! Mwuahahahah!"

I'm not a fan of 300. Zack Snyder's "super slo-mo then extreme fast-mo" is one of the silliest things in movies today. That movie just takes itself way too seriously, screaming "LOOK HOW BADASS THIS MOVIE IS" for two hours straight. And it does not pull it off. 10 minutes of slow motion/fast motion swords swinging is not fucking entertaining.

Crank and Running Scared are both examples of the silly action you Transformers sympathizers have been touting in these threads done well, in my opinion. Both movies are fun and silly and KNOW they are silly, and use that to their advantage.

I still can't get over why the "comic relief" characters have to be so incredibly racist.

The writers explained that they were designed as sort of poseur kid-bots who just pick up street culture off the internet, and if you think about the readings that way they'd probably be fine if the robot designs weren't so goddamned stupid.

Apparently the gold teeth and big ears were Bay's idea.

I'm certain that Tom Kenny (who was on Mr. Show) understands the difference between racist humor and humor about racism. I'm not certain that Michael Bay understands that difference.

There was a fine point made that Spielberg and Bay both made a number of great action movies in their twenties. Bay is 44 and just finished Transformers 2. When Spielberg was 47, he finished [i]Schindler's List[i].

I saw and liked. Few things that really bugged me were just setting changes and shit. For one, that helluva switch from Smithsonian Annex at Dulles to the boneyard in the western desert. Also that the final local was on the tip of the Red Sea, yet Giza was right there and apparently the country that it was in was Jordan??? WTF. Also shot errors, I loved how they showed a standard Predator on takeoff, but then when its about to overfly the battlezone, it becomes jet powered and is the EXACT same shot they used in Transformers 1. They just lifted it straight out of the last movie. I wouldn't have noticed except I watched it last night.

^^Gaza doesn't touch the Red Sea. The inlet between Egypt and Jordan is specifically called the Gulf of Aqaba, which stretches up to Eilat, the southern most tip of Israel.

Also just saw it and liked it.

Although Megatron was too much of a bitch, and I still hate this version of Starscream.

Also Optimus Prime was brutal. If this movie was made for Transformers instead of humans it would have been rated NC-17.

I have very mixed feelings about this movie. So many ppl were keep saying that its a movie of giant robots beating the crap out of each other. What else were we expecting...

I agree that those parts were great. But the movie was too long. A long movie is fine if it has a lot of good content. But there was just so much terrible filler in this movie. Its almost like they filmed a decent action movie then had 5-6 different marketing individuals come and throw stupid scenes in the middle.

Animal lovers marketing - Wouldn't it be great if we added dogs that humped each other for comic relief? Certainly that will help advance the giant robot movie.

Family marketing - We really need a scene were a mother cries uncontrollably for 15 minutes about her son leaving for college. Add in the father being frisky again to get that 50+ year old demographic to the theatres!

Stoned College Student marketing - Let's add in a scene where the mother eats a "fun" brownie, is magically intoxicated 5 seconds later, then runs around like a retard spouting garbage for 10 minutes (seriously, why are the parents in more than 2 minutes of this movie).

Tail chasing marketing - Lets add in a hot sex-bot to compliment Mega Fox. Certainly this won't feel forced and retarded. Lets ignore the fact that Transformers only transform into objects.

Ghetto crowd marketing - Those two terrible fucking excuses for robots. I'm not going to even sugar coat that. It might have bothered me less if they weren't in every fucking scene.

^And in the theater I was at, which was a bit more ethnically diverse (Rocky Mount), they ate the ghetto 'bots up. When they were onscreen the thugs were howling. And when the twins went up against Devestator, I thought they were going to fire rounds off in the theater. "They gon' fuck that big nigga up! He dun messed with the wrong boys now" and shit like that. PLEASE

BTW, what happened to them? We just see them starting to tangle with Devestator. I was really looking forward to him consuming them, so they wouldn't be back anymore. In T1 we got a gratifying death scene for Jazz. Why not one for the Gangbanger Bots?

while not a terrible movie, it wasn't great either. i can appreciate a fun action flick as much as the next guy, but it was way too long. after the first hour or so the constant explosions started giving me headache.

this really bugged me too.

also, how did the parents get to egypt? maybe i missed their abduction amidst all the explosions.

megan fox and the fembot were fine, but not fine enough to warrant the movie any thing above a C+.

Unless there is some deleted scene with something like that, then the only reason they did that was for the emotional moment when Sam told his dad to run. It was an unnecessary cliche moment.

Plus the parents didn't run anyway, they were still there when they thought Sam was dead.

So, did anybody else notice the horrible ending in which, Optimus Prime who couldn't even handle megatron in the first movie and gets thoroughly owned near the beginning of this one is suddenly able to obliterate the most badass decepticon of them all, "the fallen" in about 20 seconds when he gets a couple of jet engines strapped to him?

This movie was a plotless, blurry mess that was way too long and almost painful to endure. There was nothing worthwhile in this movie.
