I loved the shorter commercial breaks...even if I do FF through them since I DVR everything.

The last four eps of last season were really good. I watched them all in a row.

So the rips of the DVDs have been out on the internet for 8 days now. Including the original unaired pilot and the unaired 13th episode, Epitaph One.

I'm disappointed in myself for not knowing about this for 8 days and disappointed in TWW for someone not mentioning it here yet.

"(S01E13) This episode of Dollhouse never actually aired on Fox, and in fact, it's not going to. I'm not sure why, though, because I thought it was fantastic. Yes, it was a dramatic departure from what had gone before, but despite its unique presentation, it offered some amazing insight into the world of Whedon's Dollhouse, and its future.

Yeah, so far it's um....pretty awesome.

Although, it is so far out there, so much of a departure from the actual show, I'm not surprised at all that Fox didn't want to air it. It's kind of perfect the way it is. Give it to the fans to watch on DVD, but don't confuse the masses by airing it. Cause, believe me, if you aren't a fan of this show, this episode is very confusing.

That was seriously awesome. The whole episode was equal parts "Holy Shit" and "What the fuck just happened?"

I just wonder ... well lots of stuff. Someone else watch it so we can talk about it plz.

Just finished with the unaired Pilot. I guess it's impossible to watch it and pretend like you don't already know what's going on, but I think they did a much better job of explaining what's going on, while still keeping things interesting. They also condensed the first 4-5 episodes into one, which you might think would be too much, but I didn't get that at all. It was far superior to the aired Pilot, in my opinion. I just can't imagine how awesome this show would be if Fox just set Joss Whedon loose instead of constantly telling him what's "best".

wow, that was crazy.

a little Terminator, a little Matrix, a little Firefly (not sure how, really, but I got that vibe), and of course, a lot of awesome. I'm going to have to watch it again, I think, to work everything out.

The little girl did a very good job. Usually actors that young are shit, but she was very, very good and had lots of subtleties. Amy Acker as Whiskey was also better than ever (a little bit of black eye shadow, more sultry hair, losing the scars, and a nightgown can do wonders). And, maybe it's not a coincidence, but it was the strongest episode of the show, and yet it mostly lacked Eliza Dushku, and the parts with her in it were not particularly strong.

So, is this "canon" now? Or, maybe this is "one possibility," but the future can always be changed.

What about the unaired pilot. Anyone seen that yet? oh, ^, makes sense

That was the biggest question I had. I kind of hope it doesn't get aired at the start of next season and become canon, because I don't really like the idea just having all the episodes be filling in gaps to get to an already known ending point.

Also, ditto on the little girl's acting. I was really shocked at how well she did, and I don't normally notice stuff like that. She played a better Caroline than Dushku does.

just watched the Pilot, and it is definitely one of the better episodes of the whole season. Easily the best, from what I recall, of the first 1/2 of the season, and on par with the last few eps.

Watching it, though, I definitely got the feeling that it was never meant to be aired. Or rather, it was made with the purpose of "show us what you can do", then we'll go from there. So, several spoilers were put in and several plot lines that normally took at least half the season or more to unfold were put in just to show Fox what was coming. For example, Echo already showing signs of personality/memory would have definitely been too early to show. Same with Ballard getting so involved, meeting Echo/Caroline and getting shot - they definitely needed that to wait until well into the season.

If I was trying to get someone to watch the show from the start, though, I would be tempted to have them watch this episode to show them the potential, then have them start from E01, but try to "ignore" some of the revelations they've already seen.

See, that's the thing, it condensed all of first 5-6 episodes down into one and got you right up to speed. I mean, since the show didn't hit it's stride until the 2nd half of the season, it seems like Joss was trying his best to have us start there but Fox, in their infinite wisdom, decided we needed 6 episodes filled with 90% B-plot in order to get us to the same place that the unaired Pilot gets us in 50 minutes. I guess they were worried that they wouldn't have enough footage of Eliza Dushku in sexy outfits to show off in the commercials.

I'm not digging DeWitt's new penis haircut.

Why can't/won't they just reimage the original Dr Saunders imprint onto Whiskey. If having her know she is an active is causing such an issue, why not make her forget?

So just watched last weeks episode and this last episode.

I have to say that Victor is by far the best active (actor) and he plays the most complex characters the best. All of Echo's characters are simple - especially this past weeks one.

anyway, still love this show

I think it's probably because Dr. Saunders isn't around anymore, Echo's handler is in cahoots with Echo to not report weird activity to help her remember who she is, and well Topher has so many problems of his own it doesn't surprise me when he misses details like when a doll remembers stuff they shouldn't.

yep, totally right. He's been the best actor since early in S1. It's too bad that Echo is the main character, and she's the worst actress of all the main dolls. Well except for November... I thought she sucked.
And Eliza is doing better this season, though.

huh, this makes sense, and makes the sequence of events in Eps 2 and 3 make more sense too

Quote :
"It looks like the production schedule had this one slated to be the second episode of the season, rather than the third. It was a little odd how much time was spent in showing Ballard getting used to the complete process in turning a Doll into an Active. I kept thinking, "He was fine with last week's mommy engagement?" Knowing that this was intended to be the first episode after he took on the role as her Handler makes more sense.

It also means FOX is screwing around with Whedon's intended schedule on his show ... again! I can't understand how network executives think narrative flow between episodes means nothing. Do they think that fans are so stupid we can't follow a thread between episodes, nor will we notice when things are out of whack?

This would probably have worked better as a second episode anyway, because it got a little more into the technology behind the Dollhouse, as well as how it can go wrong."

Fox has already pulled this show from their fall sweeps lineup meaning they have no faith in it. That being said, enjoy while you can because this will be another Whedon show to get the axe before it's prime.

This past Friday's episode was the best of the season by far. This show is at it's best when Dushku's character isn't the main focus of the episode.

Please to stop making shows for the FOX network. All they do is cancel them for stupid reality tv and musical retardation.

It was stupid of them to pick up a second season in the first place, especially if they weren't going to do anything about Eliza Dushku being the lead character.

If they'd re-established the show around a healed Victor (or even Alpha) it would've been a million times better. Just keep Dushku in the background for anytime you didn't have a decent plot and needed to inject some T&A.
