I don't live there anymore so I have no idea. I just got the impression from the Sweetwater thread and the fact it's been in Greensboro for a while.

Quote :
"Also, Sweetwater Brewing out of Atlanta, Georgia has started shipping in 6 packs of a couple of their well known beers (including Blue, 420 and the IPA). They are available in lots of outlets around the downtown area. But don’t fret, I’m sure their available in the burbs too.

Peace Street Market is also carrying Yancy’s Wine, both Chardonnay and Cabernet. Odd.

Beer lovers rejoice! And wine lovers drink at your own risk?!"

I think it's most definitely worth 6.99

The restaurants that stick it under their import menu and charge 7.50 for a 22 can burn in fucking hell though.

I did the $8 thing for all three served at the Saucer, once each, toward my fourth plate. No wonder I'm still renting.

it's really not a bad beer by any stretch of the imagination, it's just that it's gets hyped up so much that alot of people are inevitably let down when they actually try it. Personally I would rather have a Fat Tire over a lot of the mid range beers like Sam Adams Boston Lager or anything Saranac makes, and that's really the market segment New Belgium is competing against. At $8.99 a six pack though I would never buy the regular New Belgium Beers because frankly I think you can get significantly better beers for a similar price (Duck Rabbit, Highland, Sierra Nevada, etc.) but for $6.99 a six pack I doubt there's much out there that tastes as good for the price.

anything Bells is a bit of a stretch imo, but i realize different beers are more enjoyable for different people. i'd rather get some Averys for 8.99.

have you had all the Bell's stuff? Everything they make except for the Pale Ale and Oberon (neither of which are bad, they're just not great) is among the best in it's respective style. Granted they're still more expensive than the New Belgium even when it's not on sale, but to me $8.99 vs. $9.99 is not a huge difference.

i've had a bunch of their stuff. it's good, but for me, in the 9-10 dollar range, i'm going for Avery. i'm not knocking Bells' beer, as some of them are pretty good, but i'd go for something else. i just can't endorse their entire list.

fair enough, I like the Avery beers (the IPA being my favorite of their lineup) but I definitely like Bell's better in general, just chalk it up to different strokes for different folks like you said. If you haven't already tried them, you should check out Founders' beers...for me it's hands down the best brewery that distributes to NC.

There is Sweetwater 420, which is a pale ale i believe, and there is Sweetwater IPA, which is their indian pale ale.

^which ones, I know for a fact that both Cameron Village and the one on Edwards Mill both have it. Of course if you're looking for a good beer selection you should have just gone to College Beverage or Peace Street Market

I like how Sweetwater has hijacked this thread. I really like it. The only Fat Tire I tried that I liked was 1554. Mothership just doesn't do it for me.

They have all kinds of Sweetwater at the new Harris Teeter at Tryon Village.

I went down to Atlanta not too long ago and bought a shit ton of 420 and Happy Ending . . . came back to Raleigh and started seeing it everywhere.

Oh well I'm glad its here and hey some of your money goes to helping out the Chattahoochee (perfect for faggy environmental people)

oh yeah and i really like the blue. I generally hate fruity like beer but this has to be tried

I see why people were all "meh" about this beer. Here's my experience w/Fat Tire:

1st beer: wow, this stuff is different, pretty good too. I sure would like to drink more of these

2nd beer (a week or so later): hmm... so it's pretty much a biscuit in a bottle. I'll drink another one, provided someone else pays.

3rd beer (probably another week later): well, fuck this beer, I'd rather drink a good beer while eating dough than do this again.

I fucking love Bells. Probably one of my top breweries now along with Roge, Avery, Sammy Smith, Stone, Great Divide, Allagash, and Southern Tier (knowing I'm leaving something out). Started dating a wine/beer rep from Michigan, and she's got me hooked on Bell's big time.

And I still enjoy Fat Tire. It's a good beer...but as been mentioned a million times in this thread...has just gotten too much hype. But I still sell the shit out of it at my bar...which is fine with me.

and folks, nobody is claiming fat tire is OMFG BEST BEER EVAR... (ok maybe someone might claim that)
it's something new around here... i discovered it because my dad lives in Fort Collins and I learned to like it... do i buy it every time i go to the sto or out? no. do I sometimes enjoy it? yes. is it satisfying that i knew about it before 90% of the rest of the people around here? yes.
