I, for one, almost always bring the cart to the corral. If I am feeling extremely lazy, I will place it in the median. I guess that makes me a dick, who gives a fuck? The cart is not mine and HT was willing to let me use it, so why not make them extremely inconvenienced by putting it in the middle of the median? I always get a chuckle out of how the cart-boy feels to retrieve my cart. It makes me think of when people would throw bubbles into the water fountain at Goodberry's. Ah, the frustration....

As for the cart-boy, this is why you are getting paid $8.50/hr. I'm pretty sure "cart-gathering" was in your job description somewhere. And I'm sure it didn't specify where said cart were going to be. If you don't like it, find another job. Its easier to change your place of employment than it is to convince me that my laziness is not necessary. I paid for the right to use the cart and I will do whatever I damn well please with it. Your store is lucky I didn't use it as my personal transportation vehicle to bring my groceries back to my crib...

Well, actually, I never bag my own groceries. If there's no bagger, I just wait for the cashier to finish ringing me up and then let her bag them. So no, I am not the same guy bitching that I have to bag my own groceries, because I never do

I never knew that grocery shopping had so many rules... Maybe I should restock each item from the back whenever I take something off the shelf, too? After all, if I'm doing the cashier's job, the bagger's job, and picking up all the stray carts out of the lot, why shouldn't I do the stocker's job too? He probably wants to be able to sit around all night too, with the rest of you lazy bastards.

hmm.... I've never been in that position before. I don't know what I would do... If it was a refrigerated item, I would return it to the refrigerated section, but if it was just a dry-goods item then I probably would not bother walking all the way across the store. Usually the cashier will hold it for you if you tell them that you decided you didn't want to buy it. I've seen other people do this before. I'm sure I would do the same thing.

Do you attend UNC; you seem like a really big douche.

I bet you are the kind of guy that tips the waitress 50 cents at the restaurant you go out to eat out b.c u did not like the taste of your sandwich but were to passive aggressive to request something else to eat.

ok, so you'd take the time to go completely out of your way to return a frozen pizza and put it where it belongs, but you won't walk out of your way to return a cart because it's not convenient? i see. i can't wait to see your defense on that...

and in terms of the dry goods i'm talking about picking up some kind of item and deciding 4 aisles later you don't want it, so you leave it with a bunch of totally unrelated products just because it's too inconvenient for you to put it in its proper place.

you know, by helping to bag your own groceries not only do you get to put items you want bagged together yourself, but you can also get out to the parking lot that much faster to leave your cart wherever the fuck you want and leave that much faster so someone else can put it away later!

I'm actually a pretty high tipper. ~40% if she keeps my drink filled. 15-20% if I'm not happy, which happens rarely. This is consistent, because I believe in people doing the job they're being paid to do and I don't mind paying them to do a good job for me.

It is quite simple. Refrigerated goods spoil quickly. An employee can (and should) return my cart, but it is not as simple for them to return a refrigerated item, as they do not know how long it has been sitting on a shelf spoiling.

Be that as it may, I am not about to do the cashier's job for them.

I hate when the baggers bag my groceries. They always use too many bags and do shit like put bread under a gallon of milk I do not miss going to stores with baggers at all.

You really are a douche. I hope you are never my manager for a job.

Did you work while in school or growing up? Or did you live off of daddy's allowence, who makes big bucks and complained throughout your childhood that he pulled himself up by his bootstraps but the rest of society is lazy.

I worked - installed flooring (carpet, linoleum), carpentry, and HVAC in high school.... Co-oped my way through college.

That makes sense, though, because it would be the spoiled brats who would be offended that they'd be expected to actually perform work for money instead of the grocery store just handing it to them.

I have a work ethic, and so I expect everyone else to have one too.

I saw this happen a week or two ago. lady in front of me stopped at the bread aisle, took a package of ground beef out of her cart, and stuck it behind the bags of little donuts.

It's actually really simple. It goes back on the shelf. It doesn't really matter how long it sits out unless it's visibly spoiled, like a package of meat that's turned grey. That employee that puts that stuff back up is usually the bagger. Same guy that's outside chasing all the carts down.

I almost always do. The only time I don't is if there isn't a corral in my row and there is now way to put it in another one without zig-zagging across the lot.

I was doing my weekly grocery shopping yesterday afternoon and had a full cart of items. When I finally got to the register, I realized I didn't have my VIC card with me, so I told the clerk I didn't want to buy any of the items and just left the cart at the register. She looked surprised and then looked pretty irritated at me, so I'm guessing that she's one of those lazy types that doesn't want to do her job.

ok, what would you think if you were a cashier and someone showed up with a cart full of items and then said they didn't want any of it even though they easily could've bought it? i doubt she was a lazy type who didn't want to do her job. i had to do put-backs every now and then at lowes. sometimes it was something i had to do, and i knew that. but just like a lot of job requirements for any profession, it's kind of a pain in the ass, especially if you don't know where something goes in the store and have to spend a long time searching up and down aisles to find where it belongs.

Just thought it was worth mentioning here... in Germany they have a great idea with respect to keeping stray carts out of parking lots: You pay 1 Euro to get a cart out of a locked cart-receptacle, and when you return the cart you get your Euro back. (It was the Mark when I was there, but same difference...)

^Yeah, when I was there if someone left a cart in the parking lot, a customer would grab it and bring it in to get the Deutschmark. That is a good system.
