I agree. I don't have a problem paying to see U2. I paid a pretty decent amount for my ticket and had a great seat, but you know what, I pretty much told myself okay it'll be my concert for the year. I got my ticket back in April and it was something to look forward to.

How often does something like U2 or any concert happen in Carter Finley. So worth it. It was surreal to see so many people packed in there.

U2 + Muse + Carter Finley + one hell of a stage = win

Out of curiosity, do you know a lot of people who only go to one or two shows a year?

From what I've read, U2 won't break even until they finish this leg of the tour,

U2 makes a TON of money regardless. Usually in the concert world, bands are guaranteed X number of dollars per show. For example, I know last summer, Kenny Chesney made $1.6 mil guaranteed per show. It is up to the promoter to turn a profit through ticket/concession/etc sales.

I went to a show a few yrs ago, motley crue/aerosmith. Aerosmith made $10,000 for a 30 minute meet n greet, and almost a million for the show. Since it was a cold night in october, they only sold about 14-15,000 tickets and not many concessions, so livenation lost about $300k that night from what I was told.

U2 was probably guaranteed something in the 1.5-2million range and then it is up to livenation to turn a profit off that number.

U2 fans gripe: Traffic kept us out
Oct 06, 2009

Quote :
"But the congestion raised familiar questions about Raleigh's ability to handle big events. There was no Wolfline bus that typically carries football fans, and other buses weren't spotted in the crowd. Many complained that troopers working the events weren't directing anyone anywhere.

'The traffic situation was a complete nightmare and made Raleigh look like a small-time hick city,' wrote Randy01 on a newsobserver.com blog. 'Preach early arrival all you want, but three hours to go 10 miles is a severe infrastructure problem and the people complaining have a legitimate beef.'"

http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local_state/story/128315.html

State agencies involved and North Carolina State University need to get it together before the next big event like this.

They probably could have cut traffic down heavily if they provided bus service. I still don't understand why there isn't a stop for CAT/TTA at the fairgrounds/rbc/carter finley. Anywhere in that area would be adequate. It was one of the first things I checked and it would be great to park over in a deck downtown or at State and bus in.

^^^^maybe people should be smarter about it. When 60,000 people show up for a football game they start arriving 5 hours beforehand and trickle in from that point up to game time. For this concert most people didn't tailgate (or if they did just a little) or didn't care about the opening band and showed up late. Well WTF do you think is going to happen?! Horrible traffic, that's what.

Idiots.

Sounds like you're ready for Springsteen. If you truly want to be transformed. It's a lifestyle, more than fandom, with that one.

I've seen Springsteen live twice and think U2 does a better live show.

we drove in at about 7:30... took us 30 minutes to find a parking spot and walk our asses down to the stadium... Got to watch the last song by Muse (which SUCKED)... Took us about 20 minutes to walk out and 5 minutes to get out of traffic. I guess I just know what I'm doing... Helps to be a local

"Both McLaurin Parking and the N.C. Highway Patrol pointed to the huge attendance - somewhere near 60,000, but not that high, according to concert promoters - and to a heavy number of out-of-town fans all coming east on Interstate 40 too close to the concert's 7 p.m. start."

The NC Highway Patrol is incompetent. I was on I-40 trying to get to Harrison Ave (not going to U2 concert) and got stuck in standstill traffic right after the exit before Harrison at 4:00 pm! How is getting there three hours before start time cutting it too close? Seriously, that traffic was not moving at 4:00 pm. I finally just followed some people and drove on the shoulder up to Harrison Ave. Then I left where I was at 8:00 pm and went to get onto I-40 from Harrison Ave and it was still backed up 1 hour after the concert started. That's not concert goers fault...that's incompetent traffic directing.

Wow. Really? Talking about the theatrics(lights/screens)? Or actual performing of music?

Supposedly audio from the show.

I'm downloading it now, so I can't vouch for the quality.

We'll see.

it's quiet, but the audio is good. If the FLACs could be found, I'd like to see someone master these a little.

But overall, good stuff.

I'm a n00b but I just went into soundbooth and used the "make louder" feature for each song. I think it turned out pretty good considering I didn't do any actual remastering.

Got it yesterday ... I'm not too fond of the second disc. A lot of their work with Eno sounds dated. Not like Joshua Tree where everything is timeless.

Boy's second disc sounds dated too, but I liked that era.
