^^^ Hell yeah I want WoW with star wars. I've been mmo sober for over a year now and its about time for a relapse. If The Old Republic actually turns out to be WoW with star wars it will one of the best video games of all time, and sure that might mean gaining an extra hundred or so pounds, complete social isolation, and problems at work... but to have the opportunity to play a game like that would be worth it.

^^ i saw a special on internet addiction about a year ago and there are halfway homes around the country where you can "get away" from technology and try and interact with real people only

i think i saw one where a woman started it after her son got addicted to either wow or everquest and then committed suicide for one reason or another

I have a feeling that its basically going to be an extremely long Mass effect except that other people can jump in and fuck up / help your progress. I really just want to play the original star wars galaxies... I'm trying really hard not to reup my WoW subscription and i need this shit to actually come out this year otherwise i will probably just end up playing wow

I did but I really like the extras in the Collector's Edition and had some extra birthday money I haven't found something better to spend it on. Otherwise the $5 I had on the regular would've stayed there.

Hopefully they're gearing up for a Nov/Dec release date.

Never played WoW, but correct me if I'm wrong -

The combat looks like real-time but it plays out like dice being tossed "behind the scenes", right?

That would be the same thing going on here (and every MMO, I imagine)? That somehow is a deal-breaker for me, even though I remember enjoying KOTOR thoroughly.

I ordered a CE and I'm not in the slightest upset about it. I've been a fan of bioware games for awhile now, and with the exception of DA2 (lets just pretend it doesnt exist) they've been pretty solid on delivery. In talking with a few beta testers, the MMO mechanics are near direct copies of WoW while the story aspect really makes the game take off. That's completely fine with me.

Took me a few hours to justify it before I went and moved my pre-order over.

The Gentle Giant statue in it sealed it for me. They usually go for $80+ for a statues and $60 for a mini-bust if I recall correctly. I have quite a few mini-busts of theirs at home but I buy them from someone who orders direct and I pay ~$45 after shipping for them.

$60 (game) + $60 (statue, lowered in case it's not as nice as the normal ones) + $10 (soundtrack) + $10 (journal) + $25 (mount, price of Blizzard mounts on their store site) + $5 (security token, low value) + various other items = more than the $150 price point for me.

That and it's EA and Star Wars. They know they have us no matter what the price.

Got my beta invite yesterday -- Initial download is 20+GB... followed up by 13+GB of additional downloads and patches...

That being said me and a few friends are trying to get a group together for this and BF3. Planning on getting a 64 player BF3 server, and a vent/mumble big enough for that and TOR. If anyone's interested let me know; more people->more fun.

All the information I've seen so far says the release data is mid-December. The beta will continue to send out invites until then.

There will be open-beta weekends in Sept for everyone, judging from what's been said.

So far it looks like WoW in space, but hopefully the Bioware touches will make that tolerable. Hasn't stopped me and some friends from getting a pre-launch guild started if anyone's interested.

One of my real good friends is in the beta and I asked specifically about it being WoW in space.

The. Cutscenes are up to groups not individuals afaik. Also I'm pretty sure the quests are more sandboxy and not linear like wow, and I doubt you'll be levelling 7 alts unless you want shitty toonz. Someone said it was longer than every bioware rpg put together

This game is almost exactly what I want out of an mmo minus the coolness of the old swg economy... but that just means its probably too good to be true
