Packed house...

Pretty clear that this country does have interest in the highest level of the sport... just not the crap that is put out there in MLS...

agreed

actually it's better to see americans leapfrogging the shit-joke that is the MLS

as more college kids graduate and sign with foreign teams in bigger leagues, MLS will have to adjust their stupid fucking direction and fix shit to become a viable product

Exactly. When you start seeing the top picks go overseas, and the teams don't get a chance at those players, MLS will have to take a step back and go "what the fuck are we doing here?"

I think the fact that some clubs are starting up their own academies and MLS is letting teams sign more players exclusively from their own youth programs will eventually make the draft even more irrelevant than it already is.

But then again, I thought they'd scrap the all-star game years ago and it still seems to be a staple for whatever reason.

I will own one of those shirts..... real soon

Ibra had some interesting comments about his former team as well:

Quote :
""Moreover, I was fed up of Italy, of Milan, of your football: you play badly, there's too much stress. In short, I needed something else. Did Inter pay me more than any other footballer? No comment.''"

Everton 1 MLS All Stars 1 (4-3 Everton)

Tim Howard played well tonight. Zach Thornton was hurt and MLS had no 3rd string keeper, so Everton allowed Keller to re-enter the game. It came down to Howard vs Keller after regulation and Howard won. Hopefully Howard can make the saves on August 12th for the USA that he made tonight. Everton is the first international club to defeat MLS All Stars since they moved to this format in 2003 (except for 2004 east vs west).

I don't care for all star games either, but that is just something we do in American sports. It's no big deal really. If you don't want to watch then don't watch. Although I have watched the last 2 all star games, but couldn't have cared less who won.

It's actually classier for the player to stay out of it, according to most. When the player opens their mouth,, there's a threshold crossed that can't be un-crossed.

So where does handing in a written transfer request this close to the season fall?

I agree they should stay out of it, but if you're going to say something... do it early and do it before it becomes some long drawn out saga.

I don't think he's a jackass for wanting to go to Real... I'm sure he didn't like the fact Rafa was shopping him before last season (totally justified imo, after he had two poor seasons filled with injuries) and if you're Spanish, it's fucking Madrid so why wouldn't you want to go? It's just my opinion you owe it to the team/coach that basically made you into a good enough player that Madrid would want to pay 30 mil for to just come out early and say, "I want to leave" instead of this bullshit.

as long as it's in the transfer window, I don't see any issue with it at all. Especially given his situation. Rafa did shop him around last year, and if I were in his place I'd have told the guy to go fuck himself then. His putting in a request makes him less of a horse to be traded and gives him a bit of dignity back.

I can totally hear where Alonso and Mascherano are coming from...why play in a foreign country for a less prestigious club (yes, Liverpool is less prestigious than Barca or Real Madrid, I hate to admit) for a lower paycheck that's also taxed a hell of a lot more? I don't blame them one bit.

but it'd be nice if they could hang around for one more year...if they did, I really think Liverpool would have a great shot to win the League. Although their fans say this every year I think there'd be much more validity to it this year than most
