i think i might drag my gf there next time im in raleigh, since i only discovered it towards the end of my time in raleigh and this thread makes it seem like its less cliqueish than i thought. i like somewhere where i can go with any number of people or alone and have a good time AND not have to be around guys trying to pick up 19 year olds and 19 year olds checking out the meat market.

You certainly don't have to be on the 'in-crowd' to go and enjoy yourself. Everyone is there to have a good time.

Its 21+ too, so no worries about the underage crowd. Plus to really even discover the place (cause it looks shady as fuck) I'd say you have to know someone who frequents it, so you don't get random bar hoppers that say Glennwood would get.

yeah, i actually went for the first time for a friend's birthday and it was a pretty dead night otherwise. no DJ, just people playing pool. it was a tuesday or something.

Yeah, I've never been on a weekday. Even weekends can be really slow up until midnight, then everyone shows up between 12 and 1230, 1.

Jackpot is a private club and therefore will not have to comply with the smoking ban. the Goat is the same way.

Jackpot, the Goat, and any other bar that does the $1/year membership thing will likely have to comply with the smoking ban. The exemption was aimed at country clubs and the like, member owned businesses.

that's a definite possibility, depending on how much money the guy has or how much money the bar makes in a night. this bill has pretty small teeth. the worst penalty phase is $200/day to the owner, so if he thinks he can make more than that by allowing smoking they may just ignore the law and pay up.

Well that would suck. I enjoy jackpot but there is only so long I want to absorb the smoke. When everything else is totally smoke free it will be even less appealing. Especially if smokers flock to the place if they still allow it.

I think a smoking ban at bars would be retarded. Let the bars work it out themselves, if there are enough people that want a bar to be non-smoking, it will happen "naturally" (and by that I mean the owner or manager will notice the lack of revenue and hopefully attribute it the cause and change accordingly). Jackpot is one of those bars that smoking is a major part of the atmosphere (or lack thereof); if you don't like it go somewhere else. Simple enough

I guess that's actually cool as hell that the owner would just pay the fine. Could be the end for me, though. Place could become a magnet for smokers if people find out about that.

It brings up something I had never thought about. I wonder if there will be many places that choose to just pay the fine, and if they do if lawmakers would react to try and make the punishments tougher. But that's for another thread I guess.

That confirms what one of my co-workers had told me about that place. He said he used to go to a strip club next to the IHOP when he was in school. I always imagined the bar at The Jackpot that jets out towards the front door being like a walkway for the strippers, but who knows if that is true.
