a foot fault is a foot fault is a foot fault. doesn't matter when it happens, first point or match point, still gotta call the thing.

plus, if she didn't slam her racket down after the first set, wouldn't have lost that way

(can you tell i wanted her to lose?)

Wow, I totally missed this cause of the USC/OSU game. Don't think I can ever pull for Serena again after that shit.

so no Americans in either the men or ladies singles events of the US Open. How far has US tennis fallen.

Serena did not get booed off the court. The crowd was booing the fact that the match had ended abruptly as Serena walked off.

I'm not condoning her actions but I do have to say, that's a shitty call at that time of the match.

well they should be mad at serena for losing the match...not mad at the officials who called the match according to the rules.

yeah, it's not the best ending, but perhaps if she hadn't of foot faulted AND lost her shit...the match wouldn't have ended like it did.

Lets face it, this really was the Women's Final. To call a foot fault at that stage was like calling a touch foul on a shot in basketball at the buzzer of a Championship game. It's taking the outcome away from the athletes and I'm just one that believes that should never be unless it was totally obvious.

I think the merit of the call is irrelevant if Serena is threatening to kill the official.

You can hear the announcers saying that there was clearly a foot fault, but then saying "you can't call that there." Fuckers.

Judges shouldn't have to take that kind of crap from players. I'm glad the judge didn't let Serena walk all over her and spoke to the main judge. Fuck "taking the point away," an athlete shouldn't expect to get leeway at any time.

"I don't know why she would have felt threatened"

LOL, even serena looked like she was about to crack up when she said that

^it wasn't even the judge, she was taking it until the chair person called her over

You know I just watched when she got jewed out of the Open in that match against Capriati where there were 4 wrong calls, including possibly the worst call ever, and she managed to hold her composure then (despite being dressed like a cheap hooker). Being older now, you think she could have kept it together on match point.

McEnroe was the announcer that said that, so you gotta take it with a grain of salt.

Neither woman was dominant, there were 5 breaks of serve in that second set. And I don't really think that it changed the outcome, but Serena served her way out of 15-40 earlier in the match. If she had dug through that game a second set tiebreaker would have been up and I think Serena definitely could have pulled it together to go to a third set. And then who knows.

Just my .02

I don't know why anyone would think that a linesjudge would even be bothered to know what the score is. They just focus on watching their line. Kind of a mindless job, and not a job that involves interpreting complicated rules.

Serena has had LOT of footfaults called this tournament before this match. You'd think she'd learn to just back it up a half inch from the line. Instead, take out frustration on the teeniest ever lady linesjudge? Not cool.

Serena, Serena, Serena. Way to show your ass.

Re Serena

How hard is it to keep your foot off the goddamn line? Just do it and there won't be a problem.

how much of this result is due to the fact that Nadal's crazy topspin groundstrokes bounce right into Del Potro's wheelhouse?

^^ Agreed. Clijsters has a lot more firepower off the ground and a much stronger service game. I expect her to get back to #1 in the near future.

Only unranked because she hasn't been back from retirement very long. She should skyrocket back up the rankings in the next year as she's arguably the most talented player on tour. Although now that I think about it, she may not play enough tournaments to get back to #1 because she'll want to spend time with her kid. I guess we'll see.

So far Clijsters is making a TON of unforced errors. Wozniacki up a break in the first at 4-3.

V I still think Clijsters will win.

don't make excuses for oudin being a low-class player. she was riding a huge wave playing wozniacki and yet still got dismantled every way possible.
