Childbirth doesn't have to be awful. I had a C-section.

I was talking to a nurse about my honeymoon when Silas was delivered. I didn't even know he was out until I heard him cry. Recovery wasn't bad at all. I stayed in the hospital a couple of days on pain meds and followed the Maria Lauterbach disappearance. And my C-section scar looks amazing -- just a thin pink line a couple of inches long below the waistband of my undies.

All in all, the easiest part of having a kid besides the actual making of one.

^ Any particular reason you had a C-section? Just curious.

And BTW...

And the funny thing is... a lot of you are saying you don't want misbehaved brats running around... yeah you know, brats are 90% made. So, if your kids turn out to be brats as toddlers, that's your (and your partner's) fault.

Amen. My parents didn't let me get away with bratty shit when I was young. No way will I let my kids get away with it.

done. we just had our first kid, a baby boy, 6 weeks ago.

the experience was awesome, one i will never forget.

i'm 28 and she's 29, and we do plan on having more.

holding the little guy and seeing him smile is worth all the diapers and late nights.

then again, i'm not with him 24/7 like his mother is, who is home with him while i'm at work.

all in all, awesome so far.

Silas was breech. We did not risk attempting to turn him or do a breech vaginal delivery because if they had to do an emergency C-section due to fetal stress, I would have to go under general anesthesia and be intubated. Since I have a spinal fusion, I am a difficult to intubate. Rather than take the risk, we opted to do a planned C-section with an epidural.

It was a big let down initially because I had prepared myself for natural childbirth and was really look forward to the experience. Seriously. The C-section was very easy, but it wasn't my ideal.

Shit, I didn't plan to reproduce the first time. I'm probably not going to ever plan on doing this--it happens enough accidentally.

I'm kinda undecided. At this point I have no desire to have kids, but I'm guessing things may change if/when I ever settle down, who knows

My theory is that even though you might not want them to start with, you never regret them once you're here.

^^ no doubt about that. mine was about as unexpected as they get, and it's been a fucking ongoing calamity both emotionally and financially for nearly 3 years now, but I can't even tell you how much I enjoy being a dad.

there are plenty of blessings that double as curses.

Not that I've had children, but my observation is that YMMV. Some people have horrible experiences, others do fine, and it varies from woman to woman, child to child. I have a good friend who said her first kid was traumatically awful, but the second was just about the easiest thing in the world compared to the first.

Either way, I don't want to be cut open. I've had two surgeries, that was more than enough.
