lake raleigh has some decent bass and a ton of crappie and bream. there's also some catfish if that's your thing. there's some pics of some bass i've caught out there in my gallery. your best get is to go all the way to the back. you can fish all the coves on the north side of the pond, the big shallow flat at the back, and the deep bank on the south side near the alumni center building or whatever it is.

when the weather gets warm, the crappie start feeding on top in the evening for a couple hours before dark. that is an absolute blast.

I got out to Lake Raleigh early yesterday and caught a few crappie on some minnows and a small bass, but it was so windy i couldnt keep my boat positioned. Gonna try and get back out there at some point this week or this weekend.

^^^any white shad in there?

^^yes

^it's ok. it's close proximity to ncsu is why i like it. regulations are just like any other public accessible pond or lake.

I finally got a break in my schedule and got to go shore/dock fishing in Gainesville. Went to Orange Lake in scenic McIntosh Florida and caught 3 bass after 11pm from a boat dock in a cove. I typically use a weightless black trick worm at night here. My options are kind of limited since it is very shallow and there is a ton of vegetation around.

Big one was 4.4 pounds and was caught at 12:30. The others were around a pound each.

I am going to the same spot again on Wednesday night. Weather looks perfect and it will be a nearly full moon.

I have caught a couple larger bass in that back shallow area, but mostly crappie and catfish from the docks. Restricted used to come out there while we were catfishin' and just go after crappie for an hour or 2. Have some friends that live at those townhomes right up the road from there and we used to walk out there at like 2 in the morning- literally only like 5 minutes b/w catfish that we were bringing in (non of them were big at all, but still fun)

Anyone else going for opening day for trout season this weekend? Best time of the year to go to wild streams since everyone will be packed in at the stocked streams.

Oh and those Spyderco Salt knives would be decent choices for carry when fishing because they can handle being in fresh water or salt water btw. Chop off some god damned filthy ass fish heads son.

Going spearfishing tomorrow at the Liberty Ship wreck. Hoping to pick up some sheapshead, flounder and taug. Hopefully we can find some schools of bonita chasing bait too! Water was slick calm today with very little wind!

Got the suggestion to check out where haw river hits Jordan. Anyone been there/now of a good access point near that area? We don't need a boat ramp but one would be nice (we are gonna use a squareback canoe with motor on it to get around)

Got out to the liberty ship at high tide yesterday. Water was green and visibility was only like 5 feet. The wreck lays in 55' but rises up to 25'. We ended up shooting 4 good sized sheepshead before calling it a day. Something about diving on an old shipwreck in 57 degree water when
i can only see a few feet in front of my face just makes me a little uneasy

Saw a nice size sand tiger last year there....not that they would hurt you or anything.

Been there many times on the surface, would be cool to see what it looks like down below.

^ It's pretty cool when you can check out the wrecks you fish. Liberty Ship is a good one to explore on scuba. We were just free diving so no time to explore. Just dive down shoot a fish and get back to the surface. And there's lots of sand tigers around there. There just bid babies though. Slow and docile for the most part.

I had never been on it, but from someone who had been on it before, he said it was up some (about 3 feet higher than he usually sees it)

it was a little fast at places, but when you got off to the sides, it wasn't bad. and that little swamp/cove area was money. I'm going to see if I can find a map showing where it is

let's see if this works:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=&sll=35.813916,-78.561859&sspn=0.427076,0.773849&ie=UTF8&ll=35.85574,-78.52728&spn=0.003335,0.006046&t=h&z=18

ok, it did... it looks really swampy there, but it the water levels were higher and the cat fish, bass, and brim were all over the place in there... it was amazing- I really wish we hadn't found it with only about 30 minutes left before we had to go home : /

Tarpon, how did you get into spear fishing? I've slowly become more and more interested (watching offshore adventures) but am really unsure how to get started. Any suggestions or tips?

It might have to wait though. Im sure that I cant afford a spear gun or access to a boat that Id be comfortable in offshore. How far out was that spot you were talking about?

Tried to find some sea trout with my dad over easter break on the Pamlico. Zero luck except we hooked up with couple of gar Lots of freshwater (all that rain) and maybe still a little early?

Took the boat out last weekend for a shakedown before our first trip. Everything went great even though it's been sitting for 5 months. Few minor maintenance issues.

Should be going in a few weeks after the grouper regs finish. Can't wait.

That hurts river rat....you forgot to mention that you were the one who tipped over the boat and ended up in your tidy whitey's with everyone laughing at you out at lake wheeler. But why let facts ruin a good story ha ha ha ha

Fished around the bridge to Emerald Isle and Bogue Inlet today. Caught a few bluefish trolling with silver spoons. Nothing too big, but I was just glad to get out.

Ended up finally getting a couple Shimano Baitrunner 8000D's. I have 300 yards of 20# sonic braid stren on both each. Very happy with what I bought.

On a side note, I mastered the bimini twist and I feel like a new man

Hit the pier today. I caught two mating horseshoe crabs

They stayed connected until I got them up on the pier.
