My bracket has NC State beating Duke in the final.

All my coworkers laughed at me.

We'll see who's laughing on Monday

We have a better chance against FSU than we would against the other 3 top teams, I think we lucked out but we'll see tomorrow.

yeah, FSU was a pretty good draw in the 2nd round...Horner has got to play better for us to win though. Hopefully Javi's ankle isn't too sore tomorrow.

And maybe we'll get lucky again and GT will advance with us instead of Maryland.

That'd be nice, but I don't see it happening. GT's basketball awareness baffles me sometimes. Collectively, they're one of the dumbest teams I've ever seen in the ACC.

Luckily for them, they've got the talent to overcome it. Sometimes.

I'd love to see GT beat Maryland, but realistically Maryland's backcourt is going to fucking school GT and Gary can coach circles around Hewitt.

From ESPN:

Quote :
"In the last five ACC tournaments, the 11 and 12 seeds are a combined 7-3 in the opening round."

This surprises me.

I guess it was 5-3 before today, but that's still higher than I thought it would be.

^^ Doesn't surprise me a bit. Usually the 5 and 6 seeds feel like they're "in" the NCAA tournament (at least in our conference, despite whether or not it's true).

Meanwhile the 11 and 12 seeds have nothing to lose. Not in the NCAA, probably not going to be invited to the NIT. If they've got any fight in'm at all then they're throwing everything they have at the opposing team.

And in this conference, if the 11 or 12 seed throws everything they have at you then they are going to wind up with a solid chance to win.

Any info on what scalpers are selling tickets for today (from early games/yesterday)? Wondering if it is worthwhile to pay like $40 for shitty seats on stubhub or risk not getting tix but cheaper/better with scalpers.

What kind of mickey mouse shit is this color commentating?

The key for Virginia is stops and scores? Really?

** Also Zoubek missed a three foot shot by four feet, which was pretty impressive.

^ Yeah I had to run that back on the DVR to make sure i heard that right.

Virginia's offense is putrid, it seems like 3/4 of their shots are either an airball or barely scraping rim

Duke's playing pretty bad to be honest. It's like they don't want a 1 seed.

3 upsets on the first day, Duke tied at half with Virginia: the ACC sucks

Only 1 top seed from the Big East survives their first game, and only then on a lucked out banked in shot made possible by the other team literally dribbling the ball out of bounds: OMG THE BIG BEAST IS SO DEEP AND GOOD OMG

At least Jeff Sagarin thinks we're better than the Big East.

Even if it's not true

^^^^ I see what you're saying and it's true that there is a bit of a double standard... but come on. Compare the quality of play in the first quarterfinal yesterday with the #1 seed to this. It's night and day. Hell the 8 seed ran train on Duke (and yes Marquette lost to us -- I know).

wow, theacc.com and espn360.com have this Duke-Uva game on (for those of us outside the local TV market) but the ACC's feed is about 1/100 as good as ESPNs. the acc's feed is pixelated and so blurry you can't even tell who's playing....

Oh, I don't disagree with you about the top teams.

That'd be completely unreasonable.

But a conference isn't just it's top teams, of course. That's one of the nice things about looking at overall conference rankings. You can see how far down the dredges can drag a conference. Depaul, Rutgers, and Providence really drag down the Big East. And other than being top heavy the other 13 teams spread about roughly the same as the ACC

It doesn't matter on bit though, and there are plenty of conference RPIs out there that put the Big East over us (and rightly so, imo). Oddly enough the Big 12 seems to consistently be on top of most of them.

^^ no doubt. I agree with that. The thing with the unbalanced schedule is that the way it's set up the good teams usually don't play the DePaul's or Rutgers' more than once so the conference RPI ranking isn't indicative of the schedule they play.

I think it's humorous that Georgetown was the 8 seed in the Big East and they are #9 in the RPI -- not that the RPI is the end all of ranking systems of course.

Anyway, back on topic. This is a good game. Hopefully we get four good ones today.
