not so, i will never claim to be the biggest fan but i definitely support Bob's Cats. Part of the reason for my comment is that i hate having to wait 2 days between seeing them play.

Okay so kobe is now 28-76 fg on the series otherwise known as 36.8% FG.

To think of all the bullshit being thrown at me for saying he's no longer a top ten player in the league is laughable

You guys are the biggest jock riders in history. Even tyler hansbrough can shoot 36% FG

Mamba is definitely a Kobe jock-rider... I just like watching the guy play. I don't care if he is Top 10, Top 5 or Top 25 -- I just like watching him take over big games in the fourth quarter. I hope he does it again this year...

Read an article that says Lebron is halfway done, 7 years in

How its NBA minutes, not age, that determine your longevity

See KG, Jermaine, Kobe, etc.

Interesting, to say the least...Where you had guys who went to college like Jordan and Malone dominating into their mid 30's, we haven't seen the same from the straight from high school players. LeBron is the one physical specimen who can buck that trend, imo, but we'll have to wait a while to find out.

gtfo

you can't go making wild conclusions when a guy is playing with a broken shooting finger in the playoffs.

Most "top 10" perimeter guys would have trouble breaking 20% with a broken index finger on their shooting hand. 36% is not even that bad for a playoff series against a defensive team.

If he has a broken finger than maybe don't shoot so goddamn much

Pound the ball inside to Bynum and Gasol and stop being such an Alpha Male prick

Phil Jackson said it best last night...

"Kobe either needs to increase his proficiency or become a play maker. We aren't going to win the series or the title if he doesn't do one of those two."

They would still win the series if he duplicated last nights game the rest of the way.

apparently Kobe led the NBA this year in game winning shots in the last 10 seconds...and its the highest total in a season since they starting keeping the stat about 10 years ago...I think he hit either 6 or 7 GW shots with under 10 seconds left...what better indicator of a player influencing wins produced than game winning shots

i think according to the WP stat, getting a rebound in the 1st quarter supposedly has more impact on a win than hitting a game winning shot

Listen, he's playing terribly there's no argument for that.

I enjoy watching him play also. I just want to point out he's not really that good anymore.

You are saying Kobe can continue to play shitty and the Lakers win the series in spite of his performance. That is probably true. That is not a great testament to his ability. It's more proof of how loaded the Lakers are.

If he is shooting so horribly because of his broken finger, why is he shooting so much?

If he gutted it out and went 4/11 FG (36%) with a few steals, reb, ast, etc I would respect that.

But if he's going to go 11/29 FG (36%) that's just hurting the team to make sure he gets his stats.

Funny, I predicted the thread would go just like this. Kobe would play shitty and you'd still ignore it.

Kobe Bryant is the __ best player on the Lakers

ie 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc

For THIS season which includes the fact that he's obviously somewhat limited by his finger.

Gasol is #1 by a large margin.

You could make a solid argument for Odom being #2 but I don't want anyone's head to explode so I will take Kobe as the 2nd best player on the Lakers for the year.

Kobe is the most TALENTED player for sure, just not the Lakers best player this year.

I'd expect Bynum to pass him next year as well as he looks better than him right now.

so you're conceding that Kobe is one of the top 10 most talented players in the NBA

glad you're finally using some common sense

although you still might not know what the word "best" means

damn I hate Boston, I hope Miami comes through

but they didnt

Pretty sick shot by Pierce. I felt like they played a little too far off him though given how slow he is now.

Yeah Kobe is talented. He's best in the league at making difficult shots.

It's just that he takes so many difficult shots that makes him not an elite basketball player.

If he figures out a way to get easier shots or if he starts making more of the ones he takes I guess theoretically he could become a great player again someday, but I find this unlikely.

He is insane if he re-signs with Miami. That team sucks dick if he bolts they'd be hard pressed to win 20 games.

He's only got ~2 years left as a top player he needs to go to NY, Chi, anywhere for god's sake.

Well this makes me feel better about taking Dallas in 7.

Fucking Spurs I mean Duncan and Ginobili are 33 and 32 how are they still doing this.

Jason Terry was just brutal to watch and Dallas wasted a vintage Dirk performance.

Butler didnt even play in the 2nd half because he can't get it going and they needed Barea for his quickness to get the offense going.

Marion with his annual playoff choke performance what the fuck is wrong with that guy.

Haywood should be getting more minutes than Dampier, he was a step slow all night.

Dallas only hope is that all these long minutes from Duncan/Ginobili wear them out, otherwise Spurs in 6 looks likely.

newsflash. thats not that old. they are still high level. I'm tired of you acting like a switch gets hit at the age of 30 and guys forget how to play ball.

^ 33 and 32 is pretty damn old. There aren't a lot of guys around the league playing at a high level that are that old. Basketball players peak around age 25 and start declining around 27-28.

Wow, what a great piece written in 2008.
Quote :
"
Kobe is certainly a very productive player. In the three years after Shaq left, though, the Lakers were 121-125. Or in other words, the Lakers were average. This year, Andrew Bynum became very productive and the team started 25-11. Bynum then got hurt and the Lakers went 5-5 before adding Pau Gasol. With Gasol in the line-up, the Lakers went 15-3. But then Gasol got hurt in the early part of the game against the Hornets. The Lakers then went on to lose against both New Orleans and Houston. Add it all up (and yes, it is a small sample), and we see that the Lakers without Bynum and Gasol are about a 0.500 team. Or in other words, not much different from the team we saw the last three seasons.

Does this mean Kobe is not a great player? No, but it should cause people to think twice about the MVP award. Kobe is a little bit better this year (relative to past seasons), but the difference is not that great. So it is hard to argue that Kobe is the reason this team is now a contender in the West.

Certainly if we take away Kobe the Lakers would struggle. But the same argument can be made if you take away the dominant big men on the roster. This was true when it was Shaq, and it is just as true when it is Bynum or Gasol.

Kobe seems to need a productive big man to win consistently. The good news for Laker fans is that – thanks to the brilliance of GM Mitch Kupchak – the Lakers now have two of these players. And when these players are finally healthy, the Lakers will indeed have a team that might give Kobe his fourth title.

^^I guess not going up against a bunch of unathletic 35 year olds. the game has changed.

plus having one of the best wings of all time best rebounders of all time and a formidable 7 footer kinda makes up for the lack of a dominant big man in an unathletic era with only 2 or 3 in the league.

An unathletic era...

Clyde Drexler (Kobe's superior) wasn't unathletic.

How unathletic were Isiah Thomas, Shawn Kemp, Dominique Wilkens, Shaquille O'Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, Alonzo Morning, Rex Chapman, Tom Chambers?

And shouldn't we discredit Kobe since he plays in a "bad free throw shooting era"? Or what about a watered down with expansion talent era? How about an era where stars get preferential referee treatment? Or an era where Tayshaun Prince shuts you down in the Finals?

They definately triple teamed kobe in the finals.

You named all the super athletes from that era. It was an era where a team of 35 year old white guys almost won back to back titles. You said it didn't make sense for the spurs to beat dallas beacause they had a 32 and 33 year old well look at who the bulls were playing for those last 2 championships...

When houston was dominating jordans bulls lost to the magic in 6 and he played baseball the other year.

^^I call bullshit. No fucking way in hell was Clyde Drexler better than Kobe is. BULLSHIT.

The Kobe debate is tired and has been going in circles for 5 years. But no way in hell is he not better than Clyde Drexler.

Also,
Quote :
"a watered down with expansion talent era"

Expansion has made it MORE difficult for teams (or a specific player on a team) to win titles because there are more teams and thus, the talent is more widely disbursed. What are you talking about?
