Most fast food or Chilis/Applebee's type salads are worse for you than a comparable burger

a drive-thru window and the fact that everything is pre-made are a few of the things that defines "Fast Food" for the purpose of this thread.

The wendy's fries are really good! I also tried that BK burger w/ the cheese and jalapenos in it. Not bad!

I've been making that style burger for 4 or 5 years now, and bought it at both fresh market and harris teeter- I can't imagine it will be any where as good as any of those, so I'll probably stay away from it (it might be good, but I've had real good, so it will probably be disappointing to me)

I lost around 100 lbs over the past year and i still eat fast food. I don't get what is so bad about it in moderation, and subways not really bad at all. You can definitely get a 6 inch sub there under 500 calories easy, and thats with cheese, mayo, and all sorts of other stuff. So, I do not understand why you are boycotting the american way. I mean eating it everyday is crazy unless you want to die, but if you dont eat pizza I am pretty sure I hate you and you deserve to die anyway.
p.s. I am heavily medicated right now and when my friend gets here im definitely getting her to take me to chick-fil-a.

I'm amazed how many people think food at a fast food place is just as healthy as it is at home.

Also what about places like Applebees. Did you go to places like that? It's not fast food, but just as bad.

What about Panera Bread? Like their salads and healthier shit, what're we allowed to do here?

Obviously, we can make it better at home but what if you don't give yourself enough time and it's either Wendy's or a Panera salad? lol

As someone who was an Assistant Manager at a Panera Bread for two years, let me say it's not healthy at all. In fact, some of the highest calorie meals can be racked up here--but it doesn't get attention because they're "fast casual", not "fast food". Their soups in a bread bowl easily top 2000 calories. Sandwiches are just as bad. The salads have high-calorie dressings and toppings.

Only their baked goods and bread bowl soups are worth the price.

there's an app for that - fast food calorie counter http://appshopper.com/healthcare-fitness/fast-food-calorie-counter

had my glucose and blood lipids done the other day, and the doc says all is well. There are enough obese people in America that the collectively sequestered caloric energy is enough to run the economy for two weeks without any expense of agricultural production or food prep. If we suspended the overhead of maintaining the food production industry (and halted subsidies on farms for a few weeks) as we liquidated the spare tires around 102 million Americans' waistlines, we could shore up the deficit with the cost savings, and everyone would have a six pack again.

Oh, and I didn't do blood lipids it because I am a fat turd - it's just because having your cholesterol checked is important with the HDL and LDL

It's amazing how little food 2kcal / day actually is, and it's amazing how high the standards are to actually be considered a healthy person when it comes to fitness.

And a year without fast food : welcome to my life . Last fast food was in 2006 when I had a Big Mac at a McDonald's in Italy just to see if it was any different out of curiosity. And, no, it's not.

nah, just personal preference

i enjoy turkey, chicken and seafood

I used to eat red meat 4 or 5 times a week back in the day -- and it usually was accompanied by a bun, cheese, bacon, sauce and some sort of fried potato

I might eat out once a week (taco Tuesday, usually). Haven't been to cookout, Wendy's, or Bo's in a couple months. If it came down to it, though, I'd eat at those places before I allowed myself to start catabolizing muscle. It's just a lot easier to stick to a structured diet if you grocery shop for the whole week.

Typically, I'll eat some combination of greek yogurt, poultry, fruit, whey protein, fucking jerky (can't get enough, too bad it's expensive), salad mix, nuts, peanut butter, bars (clif bars are probably my favorite), soup, beans, or rice. A few years ago, that would have sounded gross and unsatisfying, but I've grown pretty accustomed to it. If there's one thing I had to focus in on, it'd probably be sodium intake, but that's a tough thing to do, especially with my inadequate cooking skills.

12 mo days!

I probably have had a slightly liberal view of "fast food" from the start of this, but it's been pretty good. I still eat at a small takeout joint every once in a while, but I cut out all of the chain type fast food completely. I haven't had any Wendys, Cookout, Chic-Fil-A, Taco Bell, Bojangles, etica, but I did grab a shrimp sandwich and fries from El's in Morehead City the other night. I had Char-Gril once and Cloos a couple times because I think the character of those types of places makes it worthwhile every once in a while.

It's insanely easy to find fast food everywhere we go. The huge signs and familiar logos make it an easy choice, but it's pretty rare that I can't find a better option if I keep my eyes open. It took about 5 weeks for my brain to stop immediately going to fast food when I needed a quick meal and it's been smooth sailing ever since then. I've used grocery store delis, smaller non-chain establishments, and the occasional snack from the gas station to get me through road trips. I do tend to keep food around a lot. A granola bar and an apple can go a long way when you're hungry and buy you the few hours you might need to get to a better option.

On a few occasions people have seemed somehow offended by my decision not to eat fast food. I'm sure vegetarians get this all the time, but as soon as you decline a trip to Wendys when you're admittedly hungry you face a barrage of questions about why and "what would you do in this hypothetical situation." Saying "I don't really eat fast food" when someone questions you about it will immediately seem smug and condescending to some people and there's just nothing you can do about it. This seems to happen with some people no matter how you tell them. It's really easy to tell the people who are genuinely happy that you're making healthy choices from those who seem to see it as a personal affront to their own lifestyle.

My girlfriend asked if I was going to go binge out one time once the year is up. My response (jokingly) was "Hell no...I don't want to eat that shit!"

Since 2004 I've lost 161lbs and kept it off(from 340lbs down to 179lbs). And through that time, I still ate fast food at least once a week if not more. It's all about moderation and meal choices. You can still eat great tasting and unhealthy meals if you do it the right way. Especially considering I used no supplements and never once ate a salad in that span.

i hear ya! And the other one is when your boss brings in a huge bag of Bojangles biscuits for breakfast and you refuse. Oh well, at least she was pretty supportive of my lifestyle.

it can go the other way too...

at work the other day, they had a going away party for one of the receptionists, and they apparently were doing lunch- I didn't know this. So boss lady comes up and asks me if I was ok having just a salad for lunch (cause they were doing fancy salads), and my response was "uhhhhhh... i dunno" - i hadn't planned on eating lunch there so that seemed like a weird question. Then it became a "oh Tate can only eat junk food, like the only other guy who works here" and she ended up ordering us a small pepperoni pizza. I felt like 'that guy,' but I totally would have been fine with just the fiesta chicken salad bar they had set up for us

I gained weight throughout all of 2010; even after I cut out fast food. Good for you on losing the weight, but there is a lot more to good health than just weight gain or weight loss. I agree fully on the moderation and meal choices thing, but you make it sound like eating a salad is torturous and fast food is great tasting. I disagree on both points.
