12 team ppr league....ive got the 4th pick. Im thinking my draft order should be RB, WR, WR, QB/RB, best available for the next few, TE in the 8th, and defense and kicker in the last two. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Looks good. I'm in a money league each year that's double ppr. I've been very successful waiting until round 6 or 7 for a QB.

definitely RB first pick. I wouldnt predetermine a WR with the next pick just for the sake of getting a WR. Id rather have Dallas Clark than Steve Smith or Ocho Cinco is WRs fly off the board early.

I'm actually really bullish on Floyd this year, and given the chance, I would draft Floyd over S. Moss everytime.

He's a Top WR in a pass first offense; Bigger WR than Moss, better QB, weaker competition, etc

thats how I'm leaning too, Moss just is a little bit more proven than Floyd as the main man receiver. Of course, I'm not needing him to put up WR1 or WR2 numbers for me either, so I think I might roll the dice with Floyd.

if Sidney Rice wasnt injured my receiving corps would be so solid: Randy Moss, Roddy White and Sidney Rice. I think Randy and Roddy are going to be very consistent and good for me this year

Yeah I think Floyd is going to have a fantastic year, and I really wanted him but someone got him 2 picks before me. I'm kind of glad he didn't because I have Rivers and Matthews already and I didn't want to be screwed on that bye week.

Also wanted to take the panthers defesne with my last pick, since they have impressed me in preseason and I always prefer pulling for good games by teams and players I already like anyway. But someone else had the same idea and picked them right before me

Yeah it's 210 on Sirius. The morning guy is like the Michael Scott of fantasy football. Line after line of corny remarks.

And MJD has his own show.

here's what i want to know...

1) can dexter mccluster be a viable option at some point in the fantasy season?
2) is Legadu Naane a legitimate #2 WR sleeper pick with Vincent Jackson out?

unless you have a really really deep league, you're not going to draft either one of those players without missing out on some "higher value" players

for example, I thought going into my draft that Nate Burleson would be a good sleeper pick (the same with Naanee and McCluster) however, as the draft picks came and went, there were much better players on the board that I could choose from, and Burleson went undrafted. I would keep on eye on Naanee and McCluster, but only from the waiver wire, if one or both of them have a great game or two then I'll pick them up.

^I've got the same pick as you (4 in a 12 team PPR league). We lucked out in that one of the big 4 backs will be available. I've done three mock drafts and gotten a different RB each time (Rice, MJD, AP). You'll have to let me know who you actually get with your first pick.

As far as strategy, I'm like you: hoping to get a top WR with the second pick -- maybe Miles Austin or Reggie Wayne

kevmcd86 and Ribs -

Both could be nice sleeper options in deeper leagues, but I'm telling you right now, the guy you need to be targeting is Jabbar Gaffney. He's walking away from preseason as their legit #1 WR. He's been playing as a slightly bigger version of Wes Welker. Very fast, great hands, can run nice dig and out routes, etc.

That dude will be a PPR monster this year and a legit #3 borderline #2 WR, even in 10 man leagues before the end of the year.

Book it.

^ thank you. As a Broncos fan I thought the receiver to have was going to be Eddie Royal since they were moving him to the slot/Wes Welker type roll. But Gaffney had a 200 yd, 2 td game the last game of the year with Marshall out, and hes obviously the guy Kyle Orton looks at. Last week 6 catches, 98 yards.

I have seen so much hype surrounding McCluster, that I'm not sure even sure if I consider him much of a sleeper anymore. I've seen all type of bold predictions for him and how he's going to be used in so many ways. I'd love to get him late or on waivers, but with the hype, he'll probably go higher in my drafts then I'd be willing to pick him.

Here are the results:
4 Ray Rice, Bal RB
21 Roddy White, Atl WR
28 Marques Colston, NO WR
45 Matt Schaub, Hou QB
52 Ronnie Brown, Mia RB
69 Jeremy Maclin, Phi WR
76 Jason Witten, Dal TE
93 Johnny Knox, Chi WR
100 Michael Bush, Oak RB
117 Derrick Mason, Bal WR
124 Laurence Maroney, NE RB
141 Nate Burleson, Det WR
148 Malcom Floyd, SD WR
165 Mohamed Massaquoi, Cle WR
172 Willie Parker, Was RB
189 Chargers D/ST, SD D/ST
196 Lawrence Tynes, NYG K
213 Derrick Ward, TB RB

My biggest steal was Malcolm Floyd at 148. Overall a pretty good draft. If you're wondering about Ward it was an Autodraft pick.

Panthro- thanks.

here's is my current team:

Peyton Manning
Austin Collie
Anquan Boldin
Steven Jackson
CJ Spiller
Antonio Gates
Thomas Jones
Nate Kaeding
Chicago

BENCH:
Robert Meachem
Golden Tate
Chad Henne
Jericho Cotchery
Dexter McCluster

who, if any, of those WR's would you warrant dropping for Jabbar Gaffney?

wahoowa, you have a VERY solid team, especially for a 12-team league. Great job drafting, you really dont have any glaring weaknesses. I would drop Ward and Willie Parker and pick up someone who might actually make their team. Besides that, I dont see much else that I would do, you should be in good shape for a playoff run barring any injuries.

actually, with a second look, I would try to upgrade your defense somehow. San Diego is alright, but there are much better defenses out there. also, how many people do you start? your bench looks like its going to be huge. I cant get over the amount of value you got with that many teams and that many rounds. You must play in a league full of mongloids

ok here's my insider article on Gaffney, since Panthro got me interested.

Quote :
"
The Opportunity
Here's the bull case for Jabar Gaffney this year. He's stuck around the league because he's a consummate professional, does most things well (but none great), and has earned the trust of his coaches. Josh McDaniels knows Gaffney and respects his approach to the game. The Broncos sent Brandon Marshall to Miami, Eddie Royal was abysmal last season, and neither rookie Demaryius Thomas nor Erick Decker are polished enough for full-time roles this year. As if that weren't enough, TE Tony Scheffler, the only legitimate receiving TE on the roster, has also left town. Kyle Orton needs SOMEONE to throw to, and who better than Gaffney?

The Counter Argument
Gaffney's resume is pedestrian AT BEST. The Broncos are shaping up to be a team with serious risks...from Kyle Orton's uneven play to LT Ryan Clady's injury to the unimpressive play of the interior offensive line. Denver may have no reason to plug a steady veteran in the lineup for long, particularly if the team is in full blown rebuilding mode by mid-season. In that scenario, why not put Eddie Royal, Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker in the rotation? You also have to consider how unusual that Week 17 game was. The Broncos were getting blown out, and Kyle Orton threw the ball 51 times. So EVERYONE was getting more targets than they could reasonably expect to in a normal game. Extrapolating a breakout season for a 9-year journeyman based on one out-of-the-ordinary game is not generally a recipe for fantasy success.

The Definition of a Late Round Flier
I genuinely think Jabar Gaffney has the chance to lead the Broncos in targets, receptions and yards. But that may not be saying much. Simply put, if he DOES lead the team, it's because the wheels have essentially come off. This team would much rather Eddie Royal recapture his rookie touch. Or have Demaryius Thomas or Eric Decker emerge as 1st year players. While I think those outcomes are unlikely, they can't be counted out. So while a "breakout" season is possible, that really means little more than a POSSIBLE Top 30 fantasy finish, as a low end WR3 or high end WR4. That's Gaffney's UPSIDE. The only reason to pay any attention to a guy like that is in your end game. Most leagues will be deep enough that you'll come out of your draft with 6 or 7 receivers; Gaffney should be that last guy on your roster. If he goes back to being the part-time guy he's always been, then you cut him when you make your waiver claims. But in the off chance last year's 14-catch game really was the harbinger of good things --- then you got a guy on the cheap who just might find his way into your lineup a few times during the season."

i still think Golden Tate can be a stud 1yr player...so i dont know that i would drop him for Gaffney

^^ Yeah I thought it was a pretty successful draft. Ive already dropped Ward and picked up Jabar Gaffney (per Panthro), but I havent found a replacement for Parker yet. Any recommendations?

There isnt much left on defense for me to choose...Falcons, Colts, Bears are the top 3 remaining in ESPN league so Im not sure who else to go with right now. I only picked SD because they play KC in the first game.

Custom league:
8 starters
QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, RB/WR, RB/WR, TE, DEF, K
8 bench spots

This is a work league...all guys..all NFL fans so I dont know if I would call them mongloids....about half of us are pretty hardcore about fantasy

^ they were picking "surprises of the preseason" on NFL network. It could be anything, and one of them chose the SD defense, so it might not be all that bad.

plus im guessing they still have Sproles returning kicks.

some running backs that you could pick up in place of Willie Parker: Kevin Smith, Darren Sproles, Rashad Jennings, Javon Ringer, Bernard Scott

thats just a list of players off the top of my head who could be available, you would have to check your leagues waiver wire to know for sure who is out there

I don't doubt that spiller is a stud or at least has really explosive abilities, but they will be getting Fred Jackson AND Marshawn Lynch involved when they come back from injury roughly around week 5. It's going to be a cluster-fuck. I'm avoiding people like him and Forsett because of that. There's no way I can confidently draft someone who is in a 3 way time share.

Plus, the Bills suck. Aside from 3 and outs on a regular basis, they are going to be throwing like crazy just to stay in the game. If you're in a PPR league, I can see being excited about Spiller, but aside from that one play he had, I'm having trouble getting too worked up about it until a some type of order is restored.

With all of that said, stashing him on your bench isnt a bad idea, bur relying on him as a started could start out like , but quickly turn to

wahoowa, that's a hell of a team for a 12 person league. congrats on a killer first draft. My only concern with Rice is that he didn't score many TD's last season (I think Baltimore typically took him out near the goal-line for some retarded reason?). Still, I'll be completely satisfied with him.

^ yeah its a concern but a small one for me. Remember its PPR and Rice was one of the top backs in the league last year in receptions and all-purpose yards. I think he'll get his touchdowns and plenty of receptions...more than last year for sure. And Ive heard that he may get more goal lines tries...at least on first and second down. And with Flacco throwing more this year it wont hurt Rice.

As you can tell I went WR heavy since it was a PPR league.

In my 12 team office league, I've got some arguing for 6 teams to make the playoffs, and some saying 4.

Which is better...

13 regular games, 6 playoff teams with the top 2 getting byes

OR

14 regular games, 4 playoff teams, no byes

Leaning toward the latter, but your input could sway me

I wouldn't want to be given a bye week personally. It's damn near punishment in fantasy football. If some of my players went off or got hurt in that particular week I would be pissed as hell too.

^^how are you doing the payouts? If you do it so the top 4 teams make money, then a 4 team playoff would be best. I've done both formats, the only thing that I dont like is when you are a #1 or #2 seed and have to waste a week of points when you are on a bye. But that can be a matter of opinion

I'm in a league that does 6 playoff teams w/ byes. I like it, something extra to play for in the regular season...I don't get the wasting points argument, it's not like you do agregate total or anything...If anything, its protection against a shit week.
