Underwood and Washington have a combined 72 career carries. I have no idea why everyone's acting like TOB has benched established starters or something.

I think I remember Ophelia doing this.

Still can't get the ESPN3 thing to work. Hopefully we can get an online feed somewhere by the time the game rolls around.

The models are pretty identical now with a lone prediction closer to the coast. Should be out by Saturday but maybe still wet.

I finally got it to work. I changed all the uppercase letters into lowercase (don't know why it took me so long to try that).

Im sure TOB isnt worried about any of our backs being able to run on WC. This is likely a statement that he wont tolerate anything less than disciplined RB play - especially protecting RW.

I dont see RJ Mattes on the 2deep depth chart... he plays RG correct?
Feels odd considering he was highly touted 4* once upon a time:

sell your ticket make money. then take the 650 and go buy college football gameplan...then DVR the game and watch it on your new tv sipping ice cold brewskis instead of coke products while eating a chic-fil-a sandwich that only cost you 2.50.

You win, one buyer wins, State wins...

Western scored 14 points or less in half their games last year (including being shutout by Vanderbilt) and is one of the worst FCS teams (2 wins). We won our two FCS games by 58 and 31 last year.
But keep hating on this year's defense, all the cool kids are doing it.

theres no way this years defense will be worse than last years defense. Its literally not possible. Its highly unlikely they will be just as bad either. This years defense could be shitty and still a lot better than last years.

^its entirely possible that even though our D is better than last year, the tougher schedule (especially with more road games) ends up putting us right back where we left off...

last year's schedule was cake. this year... not so much

Listen:

the players on our defense were not hobos we grabbed off the street when our starting lineup got hurt last year. They are players TOB recruited because he thinks they have the skill to be successful at that position.

Being true freshman with little experience made them horrible last year. Realize that they have the talent to be part of the starting defensive lineup, and NOW they have the experience and the coaching necessary to have the know-how to be successful members of the defensive secondary.

They will be better. MUCH better.

O'Brien has seemed more optimistic in the media this preseason than the last couple of years. Maybe is a different approach or maybe he is actually more optimistic. I hope for the latter.

He has no choice politically. At this point, pessimism would just be admitting he's a horrible coach that should be fired. I do believe its genuine optimism though. (blindly)

I think O'Brien's optimism has to be taken seriously. I can't recall a time when he hasn't been very upfront about the team and its performance, be it good or bad. He really doesn't strike me as a "mind games" type of coach.

Agreed. Its totally not his personality. The only reason I'm skeptical though, is because his job has never been on the line like it is now.

You don't know that his job is on the line. Everyone states this like it's a fact. I know that he hasn't had a winning season, but I don't think it's as simple as that.

If he were worried about his job, his demeanor would be quite the opposite. If he weren't confident, he'd be upfront about that in order to try and curb some of the expectations. It would be dumb to be openly falsely optimistic and get fans' hopes up, because then if the season performance turns out badly, then the backlash would be worse than if he were realistic/pessimistic.

I think TOB is honestly much happier with this team than any other. His comments about the team being more of a team and acting less like a bunch of "me-centric" players is pretty telling. I guess it just took longer than anticipated for his system to really take hold.

I also agree that TOB's job is not in jeapordy this year, and I don't think it should be.

TOB has already said that this team is closer to his good BC teams than any of the previous teams we've had since he came here. No wonder he is happy

SC State was 10-2 last year and won the MEAC.

WCU was 2-9 last year.

You're thinking solely in terms of his ability to coach a team.

Propping up expectations would be a bad idea for perception of his ability to coach a team but low expectations at this point would clearly state his complete lack of ability to put an average quality team together.

There would be literally no excuses left and this is also the last year of the team being propped up by the golden god quarterback who was recruited by the previous coaching staff.

He will almost certainly be fired if we don't make a bowl game this year. Why wouldn't he be?

Just going from a financial standpoint, we'd owe him a lot of money. Where does the extra cash come from? Right now we're paying Fowler $280k for three years, Yow is getting $350k yearly. If O'Brien was fired, we'd have to pay him for nothing AND we'd have to pay a new coach. Since we'd be looking for improvement, we'd likely have to offer up a big salary for a big coach.

Yow already says our budget is too small. We can't waste any of it.

"After kickoff, other changes should also be noticeable. There will be more student seating in the lower level of the stadium, giving the Wolfpack’s most vocal fans a chance to be closer to the action. A renovation of the sound system and a plan to implement more music from the NC State Marching Band, “the Power Sound of the South,” will also help enhance the atmosphere during the game."

Finally! We all know that the sound system upgrade is long overdue, and even though I'm not a student anymore, I'm very glad there will be more lower level student seats.

"Leaving the game should also be much easier in 2010. Athletic staff members have met with city and state officials to develop a plan to improve traffic movement into and out of the parking lots. Traffic flow should be smoother with the use of the new Edwards Mill Road extension that connects to N.C. 54."

Holy crap I love NC State Football season. Flags have been on the truck since Monday, and nothing but red or red/white shirts to work all week. Can't effin' wait.

Does anyone know where the free/pay lots are this year, or if there are any anymore? Managed to get a ticket to the game, but no parking pass. It use to be over between the vet school and the fairgrounds lot in the grass, but I think that is gone now.
