^^ That was the least professional ad I've ever seen. I like John Huntsman but it looks like it was put together in 2 hours with 'the fray' or some other grey's anatomy band playing in the background.

that's because the moderators wouldn't let him respond to it. just like they didn't let Paul respond after Santorum set Paul up, again, with a beautiful comeback about the Iranians loving us. Simple response: they hate us for 1953, and you want us to go do the exact same thing again, you moron!

also, I LOVED the bodyslam by Paul on Gingrich regarding the draft: "I was married with TWO kids and I showed up when I was drafted." BAM! I've never seen a better slam in a debate.

Presidential debates are a sham.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election_debates

Quote :
"Control of the presidential debates has been a ground of struggle for more than two decades. The role was filled by the nonpartisan League of Women Voters (LWV) civic organization in 1976, 1980 and 1984. In 1987, the LWV withdrew from debate sponsorship, in protest of the major party candidates attempting to dictate nearly every aspect of how the debates were conducted. On October 2, 1988, the LWV's 14 trustees voted unanimously to pull out of the debates, and on October 3 they issued a dramatic press release:

The League of Women Voters is withdrawing sponsorship of the presidential debates...because the demands of the two campaign organizations would perpetrate a fraud on the American voter. It has become clear to us that the candidates' organizations aim to add debates to their list of campaign-trail charades devoid of substance, spontaneity and answers to tough questions. The League has no intention of becoming an accessory to the hoodwinking of the American public.

The same year the two major political parties assumed control of organizing presidential debates through the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD). The commission has been headed since its inception by former chairs of the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee.

Some have criticized the exclusion of third party and independent candidates as well as the parallel interview format as a minimum of getting 15% in opinion polls is required to be invited. In 2004, the Citizens' Debate Commission (CDC) was formed with the stated mission of returning control of the debates to an independent nonpartisan body rather than a bipartisan body. Nevertheless, the CPD retained control of the debates that year and in 2008."

watched what I could of the Sunday debate last night. I genuinely loved the slam by Hunstman on Romney at the beginning. First he slammed Obamney for attacking him serving his country, and then Obamney served him up a nice bag of partisan bullshit that Huntsman slammed back in his face, saying that THAT was what was wrong with America right now. I'm on board the Paul/Hunstman campaign, lol

Gingrich just did a solid job riling up the crowd. wonder how that's going to play.

sure would be nice if they asked the #2 guy in the campaign right now some questions, though. 40 minutes into the debate, they had asked Ron Paul a total of 2 questions, with everyone else fielding at least 3 or 4 questions, not to mention followups. Oh, and Paul is on the outside, as well, while the 2 guys he is ahead of are on the "inside." try to be a little more biased, Fox. jesus

never thought I'd see the day that invoking the words of Jesus in SC would get booed by Republicans. I guess the Golden Rule just doesn't count for anything among evangelicals anymore

Perry actually has a lot of good talking points and shares a lot of views with Paul.

I don't understand why those voters aren't jumping on Paul's bandwagon (or maybe they already have).

Now i don't believe Perry really believes some of the things he says, I think he was trying to seize on Paul's popularity and become the anti-Romney candidate.

^^^^It's probably better that Paul didn't get more questions tonight. Dude was a babbling mess out there.

It sucks, but Paul is in his 70's. He has good days and bad days. He's not what he used to be, and the campaign trail is pretty brutal.

Romney revealing that he will release his tax records, and that it's probably around ~15%

Not that 15% is uncommon for those that make the majority of their money from investments, capital gains, etc... But I think his critics are going to eat him alive for this for being out of touch with the majority of Americans.

Good article on Newt and a few other GOP's totally-not-racist slip-ups, and the "Color-Blind Racism" that's emerged in the past few decades.

Quote :
"As such, it is custom made for people who never look at themselves from outside their own skin - or at best, from outside their own narrow circle of like-minded and like-bodied friends and acquaintances. Bonilla-Silva identifies four central frames at the core of colour-blind racism. "The central component of any dominant racial ideology is its frames or set paths for interpreting information," he writes. These four are:

Abstract liberalism: The frame of abstract liberalism involves using ideas associated with political liberalism (eg "equal opportunity", the idea that force should not be used to achieve social policy) and economic liberalism (eg, choice, individualism) in an abstract manner to explain racial matters. Abstraction allows these ideals to be invoked when convenient (say when objecting to affirmative action) and to be ignored when they're not (when unequal school funding makes equal opportunity impossible, for example).

Naturalisation: The frame of naturalisation allows whites to explain away racial phenomena by suggesting they are natural occurrences. It's "just the way things are".

Cultural Racism: The frame of cultural racism gives rise culturally based arguments such as "Mexicans do not put much emphasis on education" or "blacks have too many babies", which it then uses to explain the standing of minorities in society.

Minimisation of Racism: The "minimisation of racism" frame suggests discrimination is no longer a central factor affecting minorities' life chances ("It's better now than in the past" or "There is discrimination, but there are plenty of jobs out there"). It remembers the past with a highly selective intent, to excuse the evil that remains.

Colour-blind racism doesn't live inside people: people live inside it. If they notice it, and struggle against it, they deserve to be called anti-racists. But none of us can free ourselves of colour-blind racism, so long as it lives at large in the world we live in. It's not a question of being pure - there is no being pure with the history we have. It's a question of taking sides in an ongoing struggle. Deny the struggle, or blame the victims, and you have taken sides - the wrong side.
"

agreed. make no mistake, there's a large portion of the republican party that thinks like this: "oh that joe the plumber boy is a dumb fuck just like me and my buddies, let's put him in the oval office!"

and now those same people are saying somebody who is a qualified expert economically is now 'out of touch' with them.

these are also the same people that think obama is a flag burner b/c he doesn't wear a flag pin, and he's a terrorist b/c he was born in kenya and knew bill ayers. they will call romney a tax evader for doing what 99% of wealthy people do by donating to charity (his church) and keeping money in many different accounts in different countries.

these people along with corrupt companies are what is ruining america.

I'm not a Romney supporter, but who gives a fuck what his overall tax rate is, as long as he hasn't cheated?

Furthermore, why do people get bent out of shape about his $10k "bet" and saying that $375k in speaking fees is "not much money (which, for him, it is not). He's fucking rich, and that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone at this point. Is great financial success such a bad quality for the most powerful man in the world? I just cannot stand stupid populism and a desire to elect a beer-drinking buddy to be the President of the United fucking States.

People like rich people whom they perceive to have earned their wealth through hard work and honest means. People dislike rich people whom they perceive to have accumulated wealth through loopholes and at the expense of other hard working, honest individuals. People want to know which one he is.

^^^ agreed, but that has nothing to do with this populist backlash about him being unfit due to being out of touch with the average American, evidenced by him (understandably, given his wealth) being cavalier about sums of money that would be large to you or me.

Gingrich seemed to already be a crowd favorite, especially at the earlier Myrtle Beach debate.

And regarding your earlier posts, I, too, was shocked that the golden rule was booed at that previous SC debate.

When I first read about it, I assumed that the crowd may have booed one of the candidates for patronizing the gospels to garner votes; however, after watching it, it seemed as if the debate attendees actually disapproved of the concept of treating one's neighbors as one would want to be treated by them.

Gingrich flubs history in GOP debate

WASHINGTON (AP) — Newt Gingrich called rival Mitt Romney a "terrible historian" but flubbed his own history in Congress on Monday night when he claimed the nation ran four consecutive budget surpluses during his time as House speaker. Romney attacked Gingrich's financial links to Freddie Mac while ignoring his own.

http://news.yahoo.com/fact-check-gingrich-flubs-history-gop-debate-030803027.html

ROMNEY: "I don't think we can possibly retake the White House if the person who's leading our party is the person who was working for the chief lobbyist of Freddie Mac. Freddie Mac was paying Speaker Gingrich $1.6 million at the same time Freddie Mac was costing the people of Florida millions upon millions of dollars."

THE FACTS: While going after Gingrich forcefully on the issue, Romney did not mention his own earnings from the government-backed lender and its sister entity, Fannie Mae, which came to light in his most recent financial disclosure report.
