i would say that the only way to get people to not hate you is to win w/o spending money, but no one gives a fuck about those teams either.

They only people who seem to bring up payroll are Phillies fans. I haven't seen anyone actually use that as a reason to criticize the Phils -- and anyone who does, doesn't understand baseball.

Phillies get hate mostly because they're supported by the worst group of fans in sports, who are suddenly entitled as fuck despite being perennial losers for decades. I like Halladay and I really like Cliff Lee, but their lineup is full of dudes that would be douchebags anywhere they play. Victorino, Howard, Utley, Rollins, Ibanez, Ruiz, Pence... I don't it's possible to assemble eight less likeable guys.

$110m committed already and Rollins, Hamels, Kendrick, Madson, Pence, Francisco and Brown are all free agents or arbitration-eligible.

I see a fire sale coming next winter.

Is Howard really going to miss much of the 2012 season? Reports I was hearing said his recovery time is 6 months which puts him on par for his normal off season routine of eating doughnuts and watching WWE while ballooning to 300 before losing some weight in spring training.

As for douche bags, I agree with everyone on Ernie's list except Utley. Utley seems like a good guy, fuck the rest of them though.

Coming from a Philadelphian, Victorino is a total douche.
Rollins is quickly running himself out of town.
Ibanez wore out his welcome6 months after he got to Philly.
Howard is only a douche because he can't hit anything other than a inside fastball and gets revered as some kind of fearsome hitter.
I can see how Utley and Pence can come off as a douchebags sometimes.
Hamels used to be a douche, but he's been alright the past couple seasons.

But for the life of me, I can't see how anyone can think Ruiz is a douche.

The way Pence plays baseball makes him a douche. I've never he heard him talk and I hate him.

As for Ruiz. He is a fat Hispanic catcher that only hits when he plays the Braves. That means he is a douche.
